Top 10 restaurants in Maui, United States

April 14, 2018 Tambra Mccollister

The Hawaiian island of Maui is a destination for true nature lovers. The ethereal bamboo forest and churning waterfalls in Haleakala National Park can be explored via the Waimoku Falls Trail. Stretch out on warm, golden sands or hit the surf for an unforgettable windsurfing or snorkeling session. Driving the scenic road to Hana along the island’s northeastern shore will be among the most spectacular journeys of your life. Time stands still at the Hawaiian village of Keanae, definitely worth a visit.

Most days Ahi Poke, Fish tacos, Ceviche, Fish plates and Curry.IF we don't have fresh fish we may not be open or close early. EVERYTHING is made daily and to order. 5 stars for a reason. Served with Aloha. Family Owned and Opertated.

Enjoyed this hipster food truck for what it's well known for - killer fish tacos, grilled fish (that was caught the night prior) and ahi poke. The grilled fish was a bit dry but still good. Fish tacos outstanding! Ahi Poke could have been incredible but too much soy glaze sauce - be sure to ask for it on the side as a dipping sauce and you'll be in heaven. The only thing we didn't care for was the ceviche - it was a different style than we're accustomed to and the fish itself was dry. Fun casual spot, can be crowded at times. Ultra casual. CC accepted

The very famous banana bread at Aunty Sandy's. I stopped there on my Road to Hana Day, and it was worth it, the banana bread is a must try, very delicious treat. It’s not far from the road, plus you can enjoy the peninsula view which are amazing. The place was not crowded and the service was very good. Prices are also very good considering that you are in Hawaii.

Mama's Fish House

Reviewed By matt2lee

The journey from West Maui to Mama’s Fish House was worth the hour plus trek for lunch. As one of the most popular places to dine in Maui, we had to try it out. The menu at Mama’s is printed everyday, with some dishes remaining the same everyday while different fish specials are printed at the top depending on season. I ordered the Ono, ahi, and Kanpachi in Penang curry, which was very flavorful. What amazes me is that the fish here is cooked to perfection, so you won’t expect the fish here to be over cooked at all (hence why the price per plate is relatively high for fish). I would have given this place a five star rating but we found a hair in the crab cakes that we ordered; however the staff at Mama’s were so apologetic regarding the mishap and gave us dessert to try on the house. With that in mind, we ordered the Black Pearl, which is the dessert to die for at this place if you’re a chocolate fudge fanatic.

Overall, I would definitely come back to Mama’s despite what happened with our crab cakes. Definitely a place that’s worth the drive no matter where you’re on the island.

Okay...perfect selections of just about everything: chocolate! Ginger chews for road to Hana! Cereals in giant sizes! Chips galore! Amazing salad bar! Hot foods to go! Awesome veggies and fruits! Staples! Coffees! Teas! This is a real supermarket plus. Puts Whole Foods to shame with their very fair pricing! Mostly, really friendly folks working and shopping here. Narrow aisles but it all works! The small, adjacent parking lot was always a drudge...the only drudge going here. They now offer an hour of free parking just up the road at the unpaved, guarded lot...saves you 3 bucks and you don’t have to play the parking waiting game. We used to pay to park there just to get moving! We love everything about Mana’s...except that it is a one of a kind store and miss it terribly when we leave Maui!

Lahaina Grill

Open nightly from 5pm. Voted Best Maui Restaurant for 25 years in a row (1994-2018)! Featuring innovative, New American cuisine, Lahaina Grill uses techniques and flavors from around the world, all perfectly blended with the freshest ingredients cultivatedby Maui's local farms, dairies and surrounding waters.

Reviewed By Charles P - Redondo Beach, California

Having read the many rave reviews about this restaurant, I made reservations well in advance to have a special dinner on our first night on the island.

Located a short distance from Front Street on Lahainaluna Road, the Lahaina Grill is sadly bereft of any ocean or sunset views which are so popular with visitors.

Billed as “Steakhouse, American, Seafood” on TripAdvisor and a “Contemporary Bistro” on its own website, I was eager to inspect the menu. When I did, it was clear that the TripAdvisor description was inaccurate or obsolete.

The menu items are an odd (some might say eclectic) mix of French, Asian, Italian, Mexican, Scottish, American and locally inspired dishes, all with impressive price tags.

The wine and cocktail lists are certainly extensive and worthy of a first class establishment.

The decor is lovely, with walls tastefully adorned with paintings evoking the exoticness of the restaurant’s tropical venue. White table cloths and delicate stemware lend a touch of class. And the tables are not adorned with salt or pepper shakers. This is usually a sign that the chef seasons the cuisine to perfection.

However, low ceilings and a packed house makes for a very noisy ambiance that would likely rule this restaurant out for a quiet romantic dinner.

We ordered the ahi poke with a side of creamed spinach, Maui onion soup and a local lobster special, not on the menu.

The poke appetizer was nicely prepared and presented. And the portion was generous enough to be an entree. The tamari-ginger dressing was unusually good and the seaweed salad it was served over complimented this dish in flavor and texture.

The creamed spinach was prepared with cheese in a sauce that allow the fresh spinach flavor to shine through.

The Maui onion soup was descent enough but the portion of cheese on top was unusually small. And in a soup there is no particular advantage in using a Maui onion. Its mild and sweet character is best showcased in a salad.

The $98 lobster special was a disappointment. It was served on a plate loaded with an intimidating mound of puréed potatoes which covered a layer of sautéed spinach, all topped with two spears of asparagus and surrounded by the de-shelled lobster and a cream sauce.

The tail meat seemed unusually small in proportion to the claw meat which was a shame since it was far more succulent. And the dish cried out for a few pinches of sea salt, which should have been offered since the islands produce such excellent salts.

For dessert we decided on the “signature” tripple berry pie. It was beautifully presented with a crust that sparkled with crystals of sugar. However, when we dug in the “light flakey” crust was rather doughy and the berry filling dry and lacking a fresh berry flavor. I was reminded of berries found in the frozen food section of a grocery store. The best part of this dessert was the hand whipped cream base.

Service at the Lahaina Grill was enthusiastic and attentive.

For me, a good restaurant is one you want to return to. A great restaurant is one you want to visit a second time during your vacation. I left the Lahaina Grill without regretting my visit but without the slightest desire to return.

It is possible to have a good dinner there if you choose carefully or are lucky. But at a restaurant this expensive you shouldn’t have to depend on careful choices or luck.

This was our first visit to the Cuatro and what impressed us were the many regular customers who came in greeting the servers with hugs. We can understand why the seafood stir fly and shrimp scampi were excellent. Splitting the ceasar salad was a perfect combination to the entrees.

We ate early at 4:30 PM to take advantage of the 20% off early bird special. Cuatro also assist with our BYOB wine by opening the bottle and keeping it chilled.

You may ask why not 5 stars and the answer is the limited number of entrees offered and although a small thing - tasty bread with the salad.

We would return, only to try the other entrees on the menu and maybe get a hug.

This is the only shrimp truck on Maui. Shrimp trucks are very popular on Oahu, so I wanted to compare/rate this business.

Sublime.
Yeah -it's truck food. Pleasant efficient staff. Went non peak hours. Minimal wait. We found the location next to the industrial port not too pleasant aesthetically to eat our lunch . Started back to hotel. The smell was intoxicating. We folded. No pride. Had to stop asap. Burger King parking lot with a view of the mountains.
Shrimp were perfect.
I got the scampi- husband spicy pineapple.
Was very prejudicial regarding the sides.
Macaroni-mayonnaise concoction w crab. really?
To die for! Wanted a vat.
White rice scoop. Dietary guidelines say Nooooo.
But when mixed with the sauce from the shrimp- heaven.
So I did extra time on the elliptical.
So worth it.
Will definitely go back.
