In a secluded woodland setting in Cork's Blackwater Valley, Springfort Hall Hotel has an old-fashioned charm ideal for romantic getaways or discreet business meetings. The hotel's seductive dark-walled restaurant adds to the intimate ambience, with a succulent menu of international flavours. Typically imaginative dishes include Chinese-style roasted duck with a caramelised kumquat sauce and roasted fillet of ostrich and camel on a raz el hanout bread and potato cake. The Head Chefs make frequent trips to local farmers' markets in search of inspiration for their original and traditional recipes. The team believes that it is easy to cook and create great dishes with first class ingredients and this promise to use the best produce is the philosophy behind the Springfort Hall dining experience.
In the past there was no match for Springfort Hall's home produced, warm smoked chicken salad, organic pork or yummy homemade sausages but disappointingly those days appear to be gone. Lunch in the bar was poor. The presentation of the lemon sole, folded in four on top of mashed potato, meant the it could not be identified as lemon sole. You could say it was fresh, the previous day, however it tasted of smoked fish, as though it was cooked in a pan that had been used to cook smoked fish or perhaps stored with smoked fish in the fridge? Either way, it was not good. The veg were laden with butter but the very chunky carrots had not cooked at all, just warm raw carrots. The bass was similar, two dried-out overcooked fillets. I did like the fresh tasting pesto oil drizzled over the mash but again raw carrots on that plate also. The waiting time from order to serving was apprx 40mins. No excuse for that at lunch time when just two other tables are occupied. Bring back the days of old when the menu was home focused, fresh and local..

I had lunch in here last week. The Irish carvery lunch is a sight and taste to behold. It's a no nonsense taste and super efficiency experience where the best proprietors believe you don't have to sacrifice quality for speed. The Gallery delivered perfectly in both elements. I would recommend

My husband & I have just returned home from a lovely overnight in Longueville. On arrival we were greeted by the very friendly Debbie.
We were shown to our room, the Senator room. Situated at the front of the house on the 1st floor with beautiful views. Clean and well maintained. Basic bathroom but warm and clean. Minor problem with the toilet but this was dealt with immediately when we raised it. Fantastic hot and powerful shower!
We relaxed in the drawing room and were served tea & coffee. A little chilly despite the fire being lit!
That evening we had the tasting menu for dinner. We had the dining room to ourselves for the majority of it! The meal was beautiful. Lovely proportions and beautiful presentation. I particularly enjoyed the fish course of monkfish and my husband was very impressed with his rare noisette of lamb. We finished with tea/coffee and petits fours in the drawing room. A little warmer there at this stage thanks to the efforts of the owner Aisling to stoke up the fire & turn on radiators!
We enjoyed a relaxed breakfast this morning, again having the room to ourselves! Lovely fresh and homemade produce, the granola, breads and scones are a highlight. My husband even purchased a jar of Longueville marmalade.
We took advantage of the beautiful sunny morning and enjoyed a walk around the grounds taking in the orchard and walled Gardens.
All in all a really relaxed and pleasant visit with food of a high standard. We will definitely return!

Situated at the gates of Mallow Castle Peppers is an award winning restaurant that showcases local produce in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.Set over two floors we can also accommodate larger groups upstairs and have a range of dishes prepared from scratch at excellent value!! Please check our menu.
We went their tonight (Saturday night 4th November.) 4 adults and 3 children who are 9 Years, 11 Years and 13 Years. From the start, the service was excellent as one of the girls who works there, came with colouring pencils etc to entertain the kids. We ask for a pencil parer and this was produced immediately! Fair play, I would have expected to be fobbed off at that point, but no, we were not. And to be fair, the restaurant was very busy, but she still found time to locate pencil parer - which the kids appreciated immediately . The kids menu was cheap and cheerful- garlic bread to start and nuggets and chips for main course. I find this is s very safe option when buying for 2 young girls who wouldn’t exactly be interested in complicated sounding dishes. The adults had chicken wings to start- gorgeous and spicy plus prawns was also ordered. These starters were passed around. (As you do! Taste everything if possible) So we all got a nibble of each. No problem so far with the food, in fact it got better. There was a wait of 30 minutes as my 13 year old son ordered a steak - “well done “ as we all rose our eyes to heaven. We are well aware, if you want well done steak — EVERYONES dinner is delayed- which is obviously reasonable and fine. We can’t have the 13 year old starting his well done steak while we had left.... finished our dinner 20 minutes earlier and we now home in front of the fire!!!!!! Anyway, the food was gorgeous, I got the hawk (fish) . I would recommend it highly. My son would definitely recommend the steak, he loved it, even after all the slagging about how we would all have to spend the rest of the night waiting for his stupid dinner to arrive! The chicken supreme was also tasty as it was devoured in minutes! The burger and chips looked awesome on the wooden plate. I tasted it when my sister went to the bathroom and can give the thumbs up on that do. Finally, the final order was fish pie, which was dry (according to my parent) when it arrived and when we suggested this to the waiter, with in seconds a staff member was on the spot- adding cream to lubricate it up! And the feedback from the centre of the table was -that was a clever move by peppers - so, everyone fed, everyone satisfied, no complaints, everyone , without exception had a good dining experience. We did not stay for desert as we figured we could make a coffee for ourselves at home in a few minutes. So, there you have it. I gave it five stars, because the staff were very friendly and sorted out my 2 girls colouring issue immediately. The food was delicious, we were all full leaving , the wine was reasonably priced and very tasty, which alwYs helps as that translates into money well spent. We will definitely go back in the next week or two to do another test run.

I was pleasantly surprised by the speed and quality of my food today. Having not eaten there before, I was unsure as to what to expect. All the usual Italian dishes are on, including a very reasonably priced pizza -€6.50! None of the prices were dear and judging by the dishes I saw, all portion sizes were generous. The service was friendly and efficient. I will return!!

The carvery at lunchtime here is top class. Beef in pepper sauce is of a very high standard and is served with huge sides. The salmon was absolutely delicious. Nice Pinot Grigio by the glass. Good Black Forest gateau. Enjoyable Irish coffees. The service was just great, especially by Jackie who dealt with a mishap by one of our group so professionally and courteously. There was a young guy on the till at the carvery (didn't get his name) who was great to deal with and who really understands good customer service.
I found the price of the food very reasonable, given the high quality of food served.
I would defnitely recommend the Arches.

we are provide Asian healthy food as an healthy food restaurant in Mallow. Our focus in cooking is fresh and healthy.
The good side is that this café looks bright and clean with staff who seem anxious to please. The simple stir fried dishes were fresh and well executed. On the other hand the duck rolls and the deep fried Gyoza dumplings were obviously deep frozen factory products and fairly tasteless. The Korean Gyoza dumplings should NEVER be deep fried but in answer to my request the kitchen said I couldn't have them steamed... can't imagine why not. Unfortunately the broth in my Won Ton Soup was also near tasteless as were the dumplings which were just filled with finely ground hamburger mince, probably another cheap factory product. One of the problems is that this restaurant is trying to serve Chinese, Thai, Japanese and Korean influenced meals. They probably think this is a good business plan but simply being Asian doesn't make you an expert on all types of Asian food. They should just stick to specialising in their own cultural food and do it superbly. My advice is that if you eat in this restaurant, stick to dishes which are basically stir fried meat and veg with the sauce of your choice served with either rice or noodles. They do that type of thing rather well.
