Ashley's Apple Basket Cafe is located in historic downtown Macon, MO. We serve home cooked food, made from scratch when you order.
Ashley's Apple Basket Cafe, just across the street from Macon's post office and not far from downtown shops and stores, is a great little cafe at which to kick back and enjoy a delicious, fresh meal. I stopped there for the first time and I look forward to returning.
From the moment I stepped in and sat down, I received a warm welcome from Tami, my waitress. I felt immediately at home and found what I wanted--a tenderloin sandwich, which I'd heard about from friends. I also ordered some french fries to go with the tenderloin. The prices are reasonable for whatever you order, and the tenderloin sandwich is offered in regular and jumbo sizes with your choice of toppings served separately on the platter. Everything is made to order and the portion servings are just right.
The Apple Basket, as it's sometimes called, offers a simple, but clean and welcoming, atmosphere in which to have a conversation if you want it. Many locals stop in and visit while ordering their favorites. There is adequate seating and tables, as well as booths. And you can get WiFi at The Apple Basket to use while you wait for your order; at times, it's challenging to get good reception in some areas of Macon, so it's nice to know I can check my messages while waiting for my meal.
When I visit different towns in Missouri, I like looking for the locally-owned restaurants. You won't be disappointed by what you find here. Not a lot of frills and razzmatazz, but the food is delicious and fresh when you get it. And you get the kind of service you don't always find in larger towns. And it's a great place to get a good tenderloin sandwich! I plan to return here, especially with friends and/or family.

A strawberry sundae should be pretty simple, but they didn't have it, saying all their strawberries were frozen. There was also a lot of workers but only one cashier. That is a management problem.

3 of us went Dutch for lunch. No problem for the courteous staff to handle. Tiffany our waitress was super! Very knowledgeable in answering questions about the menu items and helpful with suggestions. Yes to the Onion Rings as an appetizer! Light and delicious. The 3 of us shared a large order. As it was lunch we ordered sandwiches. Black and blu burger, mushroom and Swiss burger and grilled chicken. Everyone was pleased with the quality of the meat and the taste of the sandwiches. The burgers are served with 2 patties and I can only imagine how large the tower burger must be. But first sandwiches are served with the choice of side AND a salad. The salad of spring greens and assorted salad favorite veggies is served family style with cool bowls! Feta cheese and croutons on the side and choices of salad dressings. It was great that everyone got the salad he wanted! The house dressing was good although a little garlicky for 1 person. The crotons can be eaten like potatoes chips. They’re so good! We were too full for desert and a burger and a half went home in doggie bags. I had the grilled chicken sandwich and was given the choice if the house sauce or a house buffalo wing sauce. The hose sauce had a wonderful smoke flavor to it that took the typical grilled chicken sandwich up a notch. The Swiss was melted off. At first my brother thought it was pricey for a hamburger, but realized the side and salad were included in the cost it wasn’t so bad. We will return again.

The restaurant is a real “down home” style place. First it was not where our GPS said it was located, but we went a little further up the road and found it. The place was bright and open with a lot of windows but a little cluttered with a variety of stuff. The service was prompt and friendly. I had the biscuits and gravy which was good. The pancakes were pretty good. The eggs were a little burnt on the edge but overall the food was good and the portions were huge. I would recommend this as a good breakfast stop if you are in Macon

Our resturant is a causal place that friends can come to have some of the best BBQ and Steaks around. We have a full bar for your drink enjoyment. We will also take reservations and can accommodate parties of up to 30. Our smiling staff is waiting to take your orders!
We were attending Macon's Fork n Cork festival and passed The Smoke House food truck. They were already out of Turkey and pulled pork so we decided to walk to the actual restaurant for lunch. Best decision we made all day. The sweet smell of...MoreThank you so much! We appreciate your business.

Thanks for the recommendation, Trip Advisor! This place is easy off the highway and we had friendly and quick service. The food was really fantastic. Husband had a beef burrito. I had Special Quesadilla - chorizo and a ton of it. Very tasty.
Only drawback is smoking is allowed. Sure there's a non smoking area but despite that, we still stink now. It's not something people from most states are used to anymore, and it does take away from the experience.

We stopped by here after a lolli sale and were very pleased with our service. The lady was chatty and cracking silly jokes all while she was making our meal. The sandwiches were made perfect and tasted great. I would definitely recommend for a quick healthy meal!

The kids like the idea of eating in the car and having someone bring the food out to you. The food was hot and the drinks were cold. They even have specials on occasion and are open late.

This little restaurant would fit the bill for a quick and inexpensive lunch. While the buffet offerings aren't numerous, they were hot and the quality was good. We lucked out by stopping in during their "happy hour" and getting $2 of each buffet. You can't beat getting a filling lunch for under $13!
