After a visit here last weekend to celebrate my father-in-law’s birthday, I felt compelled to write a review after being ‘blackmailed’ not to!
I’ll just stress this isn’t a review on the food, drinks or pub itself; simply a review of our experience:
Two dishes in our party (burgers) weren’t great and only some got eaten. No big deal as far as we were concerned, we finished eating and plates were eventually cleared.
Shortly after this a woman approached our table (chef/landlady/? Don’t know who) and said that she should have ‘put more onions’ in the burgers and she realised that they weren’t great after seeing them come back to the kitchen.
What followed is the reason for the review: she then proceeded to say she’d take the cost of one of the burgers off the bill. My husband and I were paying and this was acceptable.
However this ‘goodwill’ gesture was very quickly caveated by ‘I’d rather do that than you leave me a negative review on tripadvisor’.
I’m afraid I decide whether or not I leave a review. I thought reviews were supposed to be a subjective view of a business based on personal experience?
Everything about our experience that night was fine, not great and not bad, just fine. And I don’t leave tripadvisor reviews for fine, only terrible or great. So I’d have never shared my views on this pub if it wasn’t for the thinly-veiled threat supposedly offered as a goodwill gesture.
Not a great way to win round customers...

Small snack and coffee stop off between work. People very helpful and friendly with good coffee. Biggest attraction for me was watching the ‘dog loving’ folk having full conversations with their breed of choice. Kept thoroughly entertained for the time I spent here. Great comedy value
