At Refugio de Santiago you will be able to enjoy a gastronomical experience with the healthy influence of the Identity Cuisine from Cañete's River Basin. We have exclusive products in world-wide gastronomy such as fresh shrimps, tasty wild salmon trouts, native vegetables, exotic fruits from our organic orchards, etc. Our gastronomical proposal has simultaneously an extra, to experience Perú by its biodiversity, culture and history.
Can be hard to find but worth it. It is in a little village in the Carretera down a dirt lane. You enter either just before the church or coming from the East through a diagonal turn off. You will come to an open space beyond the church with a ramp down to a small carpark. The Restaurant is through a wrought iron gate (you may have to ring) up some steep steps. When you get to the top there is a broad terrance with a view over the village (moth eaten) to the river. Go through an arch and you will be in a garden with an open cooking area/bar on one side. The tables are in the grass under awnings. You are up and away from the main road and the bustle (aka noise) of the weekenders further up the highway.
It may look a bit shabby but it is peaceful and the plants and trees are all carefully selected to create a kitchen garden of indigenous and rare specimens which all have culinary use. There is a more formal growing area in a corner that includes ducks and the hens for eggs. If the owner is there he will give you a tour of every tree and plant. He is restoring the place and in a few months should have a new indoor restaurant and kitchen perhaps with tables outside in the large Terrace. There are also rooms to stay but they were pretty basic (more bohemian than comfort) and expensive.
The food. This is truly good Peruvian cooking without new fads or fusion but using the local and garden ingredients with criollo dishes to great effect. The sort of cooking that is harder and harder to find in Lima and can often be too heavy. The menu offers vegetarian choices and a good range for the meat eaters with pride of place for the Langostinos del Rio (local Freshwater shrimp) and duck. The tacu tacu was outstanding; much lighter and tastier than usual. Several of us had different versions of duck, all applauded. We didnt try the cocktails but were told that they are fun with local ingredients.
All in all a great place for a long lunch with friends on the grass (bring insect repellent). You are there for the food and company in simple surrounding. Lovely service by a women who was rushing to and from the kitchen 30 meters away and working up a sweat. The prices are not middling - nothing is cheap in Lunahauana - but worth it.

This is the hotel restaurant, so it's convenient if you're staying there. Note there's no A/C, so it can get hot. The food was very good, but found the menu very limited, and further, many dishes in the menu weren't available. The service was slow, mostly because they seemed to be understaffed (off-season maybe). Breakfast is included and the coffee was pretty good. I recommend the stuffed avocado and the beef with pesto and potatoes. The cocktails are also good, but the only dessert option are pancakes.

We ate here twice. The restaurant is very clean, It is on Grau about one block from the plaza. We had two different waitresses, one of whom could speak a little English. They were very accommodating and patient with our broken Spanish. The menu is extensive. Once my wife had a sopa de pollo which they customized to my wife's wishes. We also had chicharron de chancho, chicharron de pollo, grilled chicken, fried yucca and a salad with each meal. Each meal was delicious. Each visit cost around 40 soles including a couple of large beers and bottled water. We paid in cash but there were signs indicating that they took Amex, Visa and MC.

There are several restaurants along Grau leading to the Plaza de Armas in Lunahuana. This one is about two blocks from the plaza. We had our first meal in Lunahuana here. After a long drive from Lima it was well past noon and we were hungry. Wanting to try the local cuisine we found several items on the menu that we wanted to try. When I pointed to the fried yucca with cheese, tamal and chicharron de chancho on the menu that we desired, the owner pointed to the breakfast platter which contained all those items plus fried sweet potatoes. The platter (18 soles) was much cheaper than the individual items would have been. The food was delicious and the single platter was more than my wife and I could finish. We ate here two additional times. The sopa de camaronnes was the best I had in Peru. The menu is extensive and in Spanish. The restaurant is very clean. The service is fast and the staff is eager to please. They also appeared to be doing a brisk take away business. They do not speak English but seemed to have experience (and patience) with tourists speaking broken Spanish.

Me recomendaron este lugar, preguntando donde preparaban la mejor sopa seca de la zona y realmente quede satisfecha, me encantó!!! muy agradable, lo único que tienen que mejorar es la calidad del servicio.

Country Restaurant, traditional foods, marine shrimp meals and soups.
Se come muy rico, su ubicacion es centrica. Lo malo es que hay mucho ruido: dejan entrar grupos de musica a cantar y retumba todo, o sino prenden la TV a mucho volumen y es muy incomodo.
Se come rico.

We are your best option to enjoy the typical dishes of the district of Lunahuaná, we offer dishes based on shrimp, ducks, hens, trout and much more. With more than 20 years in the field, we guarantee the good seasoning and the best quality.
