Loughrea (/lɒxˈreɪ/ lokh-RAY; Irish: Baile Locha Riach, meaning "town of the grey/ speckled lake") is a town in County Galway, Ireland. The town lies to the north of a range of wooded hills, the Slieve Aughty Mountains, and the lake from which it takes its name. The town is also famous for its cathedral (see Loughrea Cathedral) which dominates the town's skyline. The town has increased in population in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Although the town also serves as a commuter town for the city of Galway, it retains its vibrancy as an independent market town.

Visited Maggie Mays during our recent visit to Ireland. Food was amazing with good portion size.
We were a party of 10 including 3 children who all enjoyed their choices.
Would highly recommend the steak and cheesecake.
Staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
Will definitely return on our next visit.
Recommend booking, especially if you are a large party due to being very popular.

Casual restaurant with interesting delicious food & genuine hospitality.
We ate in Taste Matters on someone's recommendation but weren't expecting very much, even though it has been in operation for 8 years! So what a lovely surprise we had! The menu is modest in its description of their dishes but the detail and variety on the plate is imaginitive and delicious. Staff very informative, wine selection excellent, they even filter their own water - carbonated and still! We'll be going back.

Eaten here a few times, friendly staff but always seem to not have something on menu! They had no fizzy drinks the last time I was there and the time before had very few desserts.
Gorgeous decor and ambiance, very relaxing and could easily pass hours there.
Food is delicious, and good variety in menu.
Lovely spot for lunch, difficult to get parking though.
Nice spot for dinner too with the girls and wine, relax on couches, you would never want to leave.

Situated in the village of Kilchreest, about 4 miles from Loughrea, on the Gort road, the Village Inn is an ideal venue for great food & drink. Home-made country-style food is served daily (9am to 8pm)in our clean, bright dining room. Most major sporting events are screened in the bar. Other facilities, including a dart board and pool table, provide a lively environment for a casual night out.
Great home cooking at very reasonable costs. This place serves bar food at its best.Had a two course meal here with my wife and could not have enjoyed the food any more than eating in a quality hotel. The prices at this place for the quality and amount of food served is excellent.

I took my family here as it was recommended to us so we were really looking forward to it. On arrival the man asked if we had booked we said "no" he kept looking at the clock and then went and got some menus, we were seated however the whole restaurant was empty !!!
We ordered our starters however they were wrong and they forgot to get us the basket of bread that was fine. Both my daughters ordered Spaghetti bolognese and on the menu there was no mention of cheese however when it was served they had cheese everywhere so we said they didn't eat cheese, he told them to scrape it off absolutely no apologies that on the menu it didn't state it would be served with cheese.
We said the cheese should be optional he said that's how Italians serve it we eat in Italian restaurants all the time and it's not.... he just walked off....really really bad attitude for the owner.
I ordered breaded chicken breast and chips and I can honestly say it was the worst meal I have ever eaten. The chicken was so dry you could bearly swallow it and the chips were half cooked. I will never go back to this restaurant again as the service and quality of food was not good and the level of customer service was zero.
You can only pay cash as well no cards accepted !!!

The Three Towers is the only certified organic restaurant in the west of Ireland! Serving delicious and healthy meals, book a family style buffet lunch or dinner or call in for something off the cafe menu. We especially cater for weddings, parties, and groups. With the horse riding centre and the Enchanted Forest on site, we are a kid friendly place for the entire family.
I booked the restaurant in Slieve Aughty back in Feb for a special occasion in March for all my family including children and was so so upset and dissapointed on the day. I had chosen the menu from start to finish and what I got on the day was far from anything that I asked for.The children ended up eating pancakes and the adults were hungry leaving as nothing was on offer other than what they cooked not what was asked for. The person in which I dealt with was present on the day but the dissapointment and upset couldnt be recified by what was given to us as a so called meal. And no follow up after to try and sort it.
Yes the people are not what any hotel would have as it is different but that is why I chose it as it is a different experience to what one would have normally but i would never go back again. It makes my blood boil telling anyone as it was such a special evening to me and I ended up ruined & in tears leaving as what was offered by the owner was a bottle of wine and a voucher in which I politely told her no thanks as I wouldnt be ever back there again.
