Wander down to the Ocean Pool at Stella Maris Resort and you'll find something new. The Moonshine Bar and Grill opened just before the end of the year, 2007. You can enjoy your favorite tropical beverage or a light meal with a pool view to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. Stroll down the board walk to a pretty beach cove, cool off in the 'Ocean Lagoon', and rest in the shade of thatch beach Cabanas. Hope to see you here soon!
The service is the best here I've encountered in Long Island. The servers and cook are incredibly friendly and chatty if you want to swap stories and learn about the local culture. They offer many drinks and sandwiches. I recommend the veggie Sandwich or veggie burger. Juices, unfortunately, come from a can. The view is spectacular, and you don't have to be staying at the resort to see it! Prices are reasonable if not a little steep, but nothing abnormal for the Bahamas.

Pierre gets a lot of comments on being Brusque and rude, but we found him quite the opposite during our 3 visits to his place. He is almost a one-man show, doing the greeting, Seating, cooking and serving.
He comes up with some unique creations and the servings are very plentiful (we usually got 2 meals out of each one).
He closes during hurricane season to visit family in his native Canada, so you have to time your visit to be able to include tasting his superb food.

My wife & I thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant at Long Island Breeze Resort. We ate there several times, mostly because the food was excellent, but also because it was (relatively) affordable. Maxine is an amazing chef, and Jette is as enthusiastic of a waitress as we have ever had.
Everything about the decor in this restaurant is classy, inviting, clean and friendly.

There really is only one street in Deadman's Cay of Long Island Bahamas, they don't technically have a street address.
Arrived in Buckleys, LI on Thanksgiving day 2017. Our gracious host invited us to dinner & we gladly accepted. We were introduced to local friends attending the dinner & among them was Gary & Liz, the proprietors of Max's. We had 10 days to spend on Long Isl & got to explore it end to end. Ate at many different establishments but kept finding ourselves closing down the day at Max's. Located roadside, there's a constant turnover of interesting personalities. They serve a great conch salad, as would be expected, also an incredible hogfish/grouper parmesan. The sides were delicious (mac/cheese is special), bartenders are personable & pour a good drink. Definitely a don't miss spot.

Minutes North of Deadman's Cay airport on Long Island, Bahamas
Last time I came here a few years ago the bar/restaurant was on the land - now its built on a little jetty overlooking the water where you can watch the snapper swim by and watch Kenneth drag up fresh conch he has on a string in the sea in order to make a really nice Conch Salad - one of the best on the island and such a generous bowl full. If you are not keen on all the veg ask for scorched conch.
Great place to drink and talk politics with whoever drops by though don't get involved in a shouting match - harmless but common in Bahamian political debates.
Try the rum punch - I would rate this the best and most generous on the island, To watch Kenneth - without measures mix 3 or 4 different types of Rum, Juices and grenadine in a half pint glass is mesmerising- especially if you have 2 or 3. My friend Pete who had a bad back on Long Island definitely appreciated the anaesthetic powers of the rum punch.
Easy to get to as there is a big sign on the Queens Highway in Deadman's Cay.
Businesses can be ephemeral on Long Island so I really hope this bar is still there when I return to Long Island

Clarence Town is the island capitol so you will probably visit the Outer Edge or Rowdy Boyz or both.
Great setting on a deck overlooking the harbour where you can see ridiculously ostentatious boats, charter skippers cast netting for bait and also lean over and spot lots of fish - including the biggest needle fish I have ever seen.
Friendly service and comfortable tables - we had the shrimp and the fish tacos which I must say were delicious and made a change from conch,.burgers or grouper fingers.

The bar & restaurant at Cape Santa Maria are a unique experience. The setting is so special that the rest doesn't matter. The staff are congenial, accommodating, unhurried, and helpful.
The food is not outstanding but given the location , the ambiance and the holiday feel --everything seems wonderful.
There was fresh fish on the menu daily and they even cooked our catch one evening after some of our group had a successful fishing outing.
Again, I would say: staff wonderful, food good, and ambiance of the place, with the Bahamian breezes blowing, outstanding!

This is one of the finest local restaurants I have enjoyed on my many trips to family Islands in the Bahamas. The owner Andrew and his wife Maxine have built a great and comfortable restaurant and proudly serve up island specialties. Always great local fish, lobster and sides available with house baked roles.
A must if you want Bahamian food in a well built and super clean environment.

In doing research for our Nov 2016 trip to Long Island, our choices for accommodation were Stella Maris and Cape Santa Maria. Having chosen the latter we made plans to visit SM for breakfast and to see for ourselves what this side of the island was like.
Great taxi service was provided by Schofield, he even waited for us while we ate and toured around. We were greeted warmly when we entered the Clubhouse, then waited on hand and foot by our friendly waitress (Schofield's granddaughter), and what a feast of food! For $18 each a large assortment of food was included, hot (made to order omeletes and pancakes, etc) and cold (juice, yogurt, fruit, etc). Everything was delicious!
Then we set out on foot to do a little explore of the resort, which is more a community with buildings spread throughout. Great walking opportunities, nice landscaping, lots of palm trees and flowers abound. Making our way to the Moonshine Bar, the views of the Atlantic were impressive. Walking the boardwalk alongside the ocean, we were aware of its presence, the waves crashing against the rugged coastline. Magnificent!! The pools are a great option, as lazy floatabouts would not be happening here, at least on the day we were there.
The two resorts are total opposites, and while they would provide different vacation experiences, each of them shine in their own way. Maybe next time......
