One of the most difficult challenges of moving from the south and it's delicious cooking to Southern California is missing legit Southern cooking. Today we discover Coops in Lemon Grove and let me tell you IT IS TRUE SOUTHERN COOKED BBQ!! The picture shows you the amount of meat you get on your bun, the thickness of the bun and your table has multiple options for as much sauce as you want to put on it. The corn bread slices are HUGE!! The sweet potato pie was scrumptious too and it was the best way to close out the meal. If you are in the area, make sure you check it out!!

Antica trattoria is a modern casual Italian eatery. Using organic and localy sourced Ingredients ,
We went here for my friends birthday a couple of weeks ago. I find it difficult to find really good authentic Italian food. This place is it. It is very cute inside and the staff is outstanding. The food is very fresh. This place can be a bit pricey but I don't mind paying for great food.
We started with mozzarella, moved onto a fantastic salad called Insalata Di Venere and then I had the gnocchi with braised short ribs as my entree. All of it was absolutely fantastic.
I always rate an Italian restaurant based off of the cannoli and I was not disappointed at Antica Trattoria. I love an authentic cannoli.
I liked this place so much I just made a reservation for 10 people to celebrate my birthday here!

Here at Ranas we offer authentic Mexico City dishes and dishes from the central region of Mexico. We are family owned and operated since 2004.
Highly recommend. Cute, quaint family owned and operated. Service is warm and friendly. Decor artsy and cute. A nice local eatery. Our friend brought us here for some authentic Mexican food and surely it did not disappoint. I had an amazing egg & poblano pepper dish with corn meal type crust. I can't remember the name of it and I don't want to butcher it. The Ingredients, salsas, and sauces were all homemade at the restaurant and tasted so fresh. Their Spicy Bloody Mary cured everything. It's about a 10-15 minute drive from downtown San Diego in an area I've never visited in San Diego but so worth the visit. I'm thinking Guy Fierri needs to know about this place!!! I've never had Mexican food like this. Yum!

Really popular Starbucks that always seems to have a lot of business. But it is well-run, especially our hard-working friend May is running the counter. Expertly made drinks - May says she knows over 1,000 possible combinations!

Found this great local San Diego Italian restaurant in Lemon Grove. They have been in business since the 1950's and the reason why they are still here is the great food, huge portions, fun and efficient staff.
Located in an very low key building in South East San Diego - a real hidden gem.

Established in 1980 D. Z. Akin's has been a San Diego institution since they first opened their doors back in 1980 and is still a family run business spanning 3 generations. From the Menu: "D.Z. stands for the two of us, Debi and Zvika Akin. Having lived in Los Angeles, we frequented many good delicatessens and knew that San Diego was in need of one. Considering how we both enjoyed cooking, and how even our first date revolved around a bowl of chopped liver, we decided to pack our bags, move to San Diego and take a stab at cooking for starved delicatessen lovers. With only a small budget, good old-fashioned recipes, the courage to experiment, hard work and long hours, 'D.Z. Akin's' came to be. We made a commitment to ourselves that we would never compromise on quality and we would fill our plates high with the finest delicatessen available... With the help of wonderful customers and perseverance, we became, beyond our greatest expectations, a thriving business."
My wife and I went here for dinner tonight. The waitress said a sandwich was a must. We both ended up ordering the Corned beef and pastrami on rye. Huge sandwich and absolutely delicious. Potato salad was ok. They had a small jar of fresh pickles at the table that were amazing. This was suggested by a friend and so glad we went.

Located ten minutes east of Downtown San Diego, Cali Comfort BBQ is quickly becoming known to locals outside of East County as the go-to destination for Slow Smoked Barbecue and San Diegan Hospitality! At Cali Comfort BBQ in the heart of Spring Valley, we barbecue all of our meats in our Ole Hickory Smoker with select cooking woods after they have been seasoned with our specialty Cali Dry Rub. Passionate about remaining true to barbecue tradition, we have developed our menus for our Low -N- Slow Cali BBQ Restaurant and Catering Events to offer only the highest quality barbecue in San Diego. Since we smoke the traditional way, "low-n-slow" there are times that we run out due to increased cravings for great tasting barbecue. We know that those of you who understand the true art of barbecue realize that once we are out, we are out. We cannot smoke up another batch of great tasting BBQ until the next day. A general rule of thumb for our smoked meats are as follows:
My wife and I visited Cali Comfort tonight for some dinner sandwiches. Socorro our server nicely greeted us with a big smile and took our drink orders. We order 2 Pacifico Michelada's which were only $5.00, and were huge and delicious. We asked Socorro to recommend some of her favorite Sandwich dishes to us. We took Socorro's recommendation and ordered the Tri Tip Cheese Steak sandwich, which was delicious with slices of tri-tip meat melted with provolone cheese, grilled peppers & onions, and served on a Amoroso Roll. My wife chose to have the Tater Tots for her side. The potatoes were so good, and the amount of Tots were amazing. We also had The County Fair sandwich which had slow smoked pulled pork meat, with mac-n-cheese & melted cheddar cheese, served on grilled sourdough bread. For my side I ordered the Onion Rings, which were very crispy and tasty. The pulled pork was very tender and when I put some of Cali Comforts unique Jalapeno BBQ sauce on the sandwich, it was very good. Cali Comfort's homemade small garnish cup of pickled onions and dill pickles on our sandwich plate, were also delicious. Cali Comforts Manager Ian also came by to talk with us and to see how our meals were, and was very nice to talk with. All the employees at Cali Comfort always smile at you and say Hi as you walk through the restaurant. Also a great place to enjoy a very tasty meal and drink, as you enjoy your favorite sporting event on Cali Comforts many large TV's. It's really worth a trip here !

Located in the middle of Lemon Grove’s charming downtown area, Giardino is a welcoming and casual Italian inspired cucina where the neighborhood gathers for fresh and flavorful classic dishes found throughout Italy, created by Chef Marco Provino.
They have invested into what was an older restaurant to make it seem up-to-date and cute/chic. Owner/chef is there ensure quality. Nice atmosphere, reasonable prices and really good food. We had pizzas that felt like we were eating in Italy! We also had the eggplant caprese salad which was generous and delicious with a large helping of fresh ricotta! Not super large, so a reservation is recommended. Ran into friends who heard about it from friends. So refreshing to have somewhere good to eat in Lemon Grove. They could be in Little Italy, but with rents there prices would sky-rocket. Please stay in LG!!

I have been coming to El Pollo Grill ever since they operated out of a very small hole in the wall place further down the street. Their charbroiled chicken is super delicious, cooked to perfection and very tasty right down to the bone. On Tuesdays, you must try their Albondigas Soup; Oh my Goodness, the best I have ever had. I usually call in because it sells out fast so I usually pick a couple orders for dinner so I call ahead and reserve. You will truly love it! I recommend this place; you will not regret it!
