Restaurante La Sidreria

I had an excellent dinner, a "menu degustación" with a pleasant and rich variety of dishes. The main dish (tuna fish belly) was very well prepared, and all in all I could not find anything to fault in the food. The service was pleasant, although perhaps a bit naive – but again nothing I could fault them for. My only perplexity with La Sidreria is the location – a sad little square with chockfull of car – that takes a bit away from the place's charm. But all things considered it's a place I will certainly go back to!

You normally would not look for a gourmet restaurant in the parking lot of a gas station. Yet that's where Gaztelubide is located. An improbable location for a restaurant of good level, one would expect more of a fast food there. Yet, this is an excellent restaurant, where I was attended to with high-standards service and where I ate excellent fresh fish. In general, Basque restaurants are among the best in Madrid, and this is no exception. Prices are also more modest than in the center of Madrid, so that in the end you can have a very good dinner here without spending a fortune. Why would one open a restaurant here is still a mystery to me. This said, if you are in the area (as I was, for a business meeting) it's more than worth a visit.

El Viejo Fogon

I would have been tempted to award this restaurant 5 stars, but as I believe the 5 stars should not be inflation but reserved for truly exceptional occasions I will stay with 4, but perhaps 4 and a half would be fairer. The service was very good and very pleasant, little to remark there. The food was very good, and it could have gotten 5 stars were it not for the dessert that was not as good as the rest. The octopus I had as a starter was very good, and so was the tunafish belly I had as a main course – they would have deserved 5 stars. The dessert however fell a bit short of it. There was nothing wrong with it, but there was nothing remarkable either. All in all a very good dining experience, with a menu that married Spanish gastronomical tradition with a touch of innovation. Innovation gentle enough not to hurt the tradition but sufficient to offer you an interesting culinary tour. The location is rather non-descript, but the decoration of the interior is rather pleasant.

We went shopping at Las Rozas Village and decided to have lunch here. For 11 euros you get a 3 course menu with a drink. The quality of the food was great and service was fast, accurate and very friendly. Too bad we stayed in the centre of Madrid but otherwise would have returned gladly to sample other items from the menu for dinner.

Visited here with a large family group plus a baby.
Good service throughout (a bit more chaotic when the place got jam packed and staff became a bit more overwhelmed), with nice service details (being greeted by the owner, changed cutlery and plates with every course, etc).
Food was served in generous portions, nice chunky butifarron, embutidos platter also good which is not always the case with large groups in some restaurants.
The high point came with dessert, which took a bit of time but was utterly spectacular both in quantity and quality, chocolate bomb cake, flan, cheesecake... delicious!!
Price a bit steep, location somewhat awkward but a place to come back and try the a la carte menu.
Thumbs up!!

Flanker GastroBar Las Rozas

Iitially, an inauspicious location, tucked away in a residential area of Las Rozas.
The Terrace is a bit plain - plenty of space, and nice furniture, but no views or decor to take your gaze away from the residential flats all around.
No problem however, the waiters were fast and efficient, a mini hamburger for the kid and 3 excellent G&T's for the adults swiftly arrived. If anything, the service was TOO efficient - they kept checking with us whether we were ready to place a food order as we sipped our drinks, despite us telling everyone we would order later on. This is not a criticism, I would rather have eager waiters than be ignored, and the staff were all really pleasant.
We got a complimentary tapas of deep fried breaded calimari with the drinks - super fresh, hot and crispy. Would put many a dedicated seafood venue to shame, as the flesh was perfectly cooked - soft and juicy, no hint of the chewy freebie stuff you often get as tapas.
We then ordered a quesadilla, tosta de foie gras a la plancha, and a mini pizza with jamon, porcini and truffle oil. As an afterthought we also ordered the revuelta of jamon and eggs with foie gras (pate) - the latter served on the side as one of us was not a fan!
The kid's miniburger (plus a portion of fries) was a hit - big enough to fill a 4yo up, and easy on the pocket. The pizza had a nice base, and good toppings. The tomato sauce was a bit sweeter than I personally prefer, but overall, a nice dish. Foie gras came on a nice crisp toast, and was delicious - again, there was an onion jam which was just slightly sweeter than ideal, but again, not a criticism - good tapas at a good price. The quesadilla was quite light (no bad thing!) and just hot (chilli wise) enough to warm the palate. The revuelta, ordered as an afterthought, was actually really well executed. Nicely runny pair of large eggs (left whole for us to break) on a bed of fried potatoes & jamon, served with some lovely fresh (and piping hot) bread rolls. Fabulous.
All washed down with an Albariño - bit pricey at 18€, but very nice. The place filled up over the course of our meal - and the waitress advised that we'd been very lucky to snag a walk-in table at 9pm, she said booking at weekends was normally essential.
In summary, this is a local bar with a really nice varied gastro menu. It won't break the bank (dinner for 3 adults & 1 child, with 3 copas, good bottle of wine, and a 0.5L Erdi ger wheat beer). I thoroughly enjoyed the night. I love what they are aiming for, and I will deffo return to check on progress.
