Famous for its luscious beef and crisp, pure sake, the Japanese port of Kobe is a thriving metropolitan city with an international feel. The sake-brewing season runs from October through April, and that's the best time to take a tour of a kura (the Japanese word for brewery). Visit the Hakutsure Sake Brewery Museum year-round. Naturally, the nightlife here is prime perfection.

This place served fantastic Kobe beef, presented at long tables and cooked in front of you teppanyaki style. The attention to detail and service is incredible (the remaining fat and crispy bits were added to garlic rice), but it was a bit stiff and we felt too rushed to enjoy the meal (we were the first table that day) and we felt the true taste of the beef was much better at a charcoal grilled yakiniku where we could take the time to savour the tastes.

Mouriya store was established in 1885 as a fresh meat store in the place where the Honten Restaurant is located presently. The business has been developed and now it is the restaurant that serves Kobe Beef. Our boast of the restaurants is superlative quality of beef that has been strictly selected without making a compromise; we have learned how important the sincerity is through the history of 120 years of business. Therefore, I usually recommend customers to eat the first bite by sprinkling of Ako’s salt to know how good the beef is. “Happy comfortableness for the customers who visit the restaurant for the first time, and veritable contentment for the customers who have repeatedly visited the restaurant” is the motto of our restaurants and the owner and staffs wish to serve customers the highest quality food possible; as it is our great pleasure to see our customers enjoy having steaks. There are 15 seats in the first floor, 18 seats in the second floor, and 13 seats on the third floor, total 51 seats in the Honten Restaurant. They are divided into the no smoking floors and the smoking floor. Sannomiya Restaurant and Royal Restaurant are located of 30 seconds on foot from the Hoten Restaurant and each has its features. Please visit Honten Restaurant by all means when you feel like dining in a snug steak house in the atmosphere of old days.
This is a rustic restaurant that serves Kobe beef, teppanyaki style. Our family's first taste of Kobe beef was really the highlight of our trip to Kobe. Reservations was made about a month in advance over their main website (English supported). Confirmation was prompt. I requested to reserve 2 of their limited special lunch sets and though it wasn't confirmed over the confirmation email, they took note of it and we were served that there.
We ordered 2 sets of A5 sirloin and 3 sets of A5 rump. Our personal Chef was friendly and tried to communicate with us in English. He also initiated to take a family photo for us. He remembered the degree of doneness each of us requested and cooked it as per our request. We had rump first and it is indeed tender, but not melt-in-the-mouth. But the sirloin was on another league of its own. Tender, flavourful and literally melts. So an advice is to just go for at least the sirloin cut. It is worth every penny.
The Chef suggested to go with different dips and condiments on our plates, but I personally find just a bit of salt goes best with the beef. It enhances the flavour of the beef. As a non-wasabi lover, I found an interesting flavour of beef, wasabi and salt! Do try it!
You may refer to their website to see what is included in the set lunch. The lunch was actually filling to all of us, contrary to our expectations.
Do remember to print out the 5% discount coupon too.
We had an enjoyable lunch experience. From food to service, there wasn't anything to fault. In all, I would definitely revisit if I'm in Kansai region again. In fact, I'm even willing to travel to Kobe just for the beef. It's that good.

This long established coffee shop has been here since before I was born except the time the building was collapsed because of the great hanshin earthquake. They make coffee with famous Rokko's mineral water that has been used for brewing Nada sake. They have been serving very rich taste coffee similar to Seattle style served with American diner style thick coffee cup for 70 years. I visit this place every time I come back to Kobe.

We enjoyed an excellent Japanese and French fusion tasting menu of local meat and fish cooked with passion.
The beef was excellent and the pumpkin rich cream soup was exceptional.

The restaurant is a church-turned-cafe, with beautiful interior which makes for a wonderful dining experience.
The coffee is nice, however the food served are standard western fare (club sandwiches, burgers), nothing unique to the Japanese culture, and could be bought at any other place.
The bakery downstairs was nice though, and pastries are recommended :)

Wagyu means Japanese beef and Kobe is famous for it. We were in Kobe for just one night so I wanted to test the best Kobe beef restaurant I could go. Yes, this comes at a price because the piece of meat as shown in the attached images was more than EUR 100,-. It melted in your mouth and it is really something special.
I was not so impressed by the other dishes and the wines but that was okay considering the main goal.

We struggle to find restaurants that understand gluten and cross contamination, while offering a fun dining experience, but we just found one. We made Reservations via email, and were warmly greeted. They asked us to remove our shoes, which is still awkward for us, but...MoreThanks for your wonderful message! It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m so happy. Please come and spend time here again. chef Hisashi/M

Decorated with the stones and woody walls, the restaurant has a delightful air to have a grilled steak cooked in front of you. "Happy comfortableness for the customers who visit the restaurant for the first time, and veritable contentment for the customers who have repeatedly visited the restaurant," is the motto of Mouriya Restaurants, and the owner and staffs wish to serve customers the highest quality food possible. In the boast of the goodness of our restaurants, it is the quality of the material beef. We recommend the first bite eaten by all means with the Ako's salt, by which the taste and quality of the beef is more distinguished. There are 40 seats, so please make yourself comfortable to dine in our restaurant whether you're alone or a group member when you visit the city on business, for sightseeing or entertainment, etc. Royal Mouriya Restaurant is on the second floor of the same building and Honten Restaurant is located in the place of only 30 seconds' walk from here. We hope the features of these three restaurants will respectively satisfy your needs and bring you enjoyment of dining.
Meccha oishi so nay! Melt in mouth steak with style and substance. Service is impeccable and staff are kind and gracious. Humble beyond comparison of the best hospitality machines in the world. This one is nirvana all the way to enlightenment.

I wrote an email to make a reservation before my trip to Japan in Sep. Response was prompt. On the day of the dinner, it took us more than half an hour to locate the restaurant due to incorrect results from google map. The correct address is under the bridge as most reviews will tell you. The chef and the waiter were most attentive. Food was excellent and the portion was very generous for my budget of 5,000 Yen per pax. I mentioned in my email that my friend is unable to eat raw food and they catered to my request. We were very impressed with every dish.
