Being new to Jinghong, I was looking for a new place to find good western food for a break from my normal Chinese /Yunnan fare. I was comparing Meimei with the Mekong, 2 doors away, using my standard Cheeseburger Test.
The outside environment was very nice but the local young men who were hanging out created a negative atmosphere while waiting for service and food. The cheeseburger was cold, overcooked and worse of all the cheese was the standard cheap store bought fake cheese found in some supermarkets in China. The next week I tried Mekong with totally the opposite results (see my Mekong review).

excellent western Local and Thai food prepared by real professional chefs at local prices warm atmosphere large outside Terrace by the Mekong river live band good music travel info
Chill hangout for expats/foreign tourists in a good location with nice outdoor Seating. We read that they help book excursions but there wasn't anything really advertised for it clearly in the cafe.
They really need to train the Chinese staff working in the back though - we were sitting in the back outdoor area and one of the guys on staff walked by us with a very large DEAD RAT in a CLEAR PLASTIC BAG to throw away. We got our food like five seconds later. Why would they not at least put it in something that wasn't see-through?

Although the staff are predominantly Thai (they don't speak English and only some of the staff speak Chinese), the food is not typical Thai tasting food I've had. Maybe this has been influenced by the local Chinese/Dai food or this is typical Northern Thai food but the food here was extremely spicy!
I've been to Thailand a number of times and can eat very spicy food but the salads here as well as the tom yum was eye-wateringly spicy!
Tried a number of dishes and despite the spiciness of most of them, thoroughly enjoyed the food. Ate here on many occasions and tried a lot of the dishes - from the different rice dishes, noodles, veg, salads and soups. The only one I would not recommend would be the battered prawns - they do not gut the prawns - I'm sure 99% of the time this would not cause a stomach upset due to the way it is cooked but not worth the risk in my opinion.
Also a good selection of Thai beers - Singha, Chang and Leo - the latter being my favourite.
Location-wise, it has two entrances, easiest is if you come up Menglong Lu (same side as Meimei and Mekong Cafe - it is just opposite Mekong across the road). Other side is Manting Lu where Menglong and Manting Roads intersect (imagine a capital A)
Opening times are 10am - 230pm then from 430pm till 9pm (I think) - it gets extremely busy so you can either opt to come early or if you definitely want to get a seat, come between 430-5pm.

Noo Sam Buffet restaurant is part of the Crowne Plaza Resort Xishuangbanna. With a Dai Palace styles design and set amongst tropical Gardens guests can enjoy international quality cusine in a beautiful indoor or out door setting. Our team of international , chinese and local Xishuangbanna chefs ensure all food is both authentic and of the highest quality. We also have a Thai restaurant , a dai BBQ restaurant and a wondeful Yunnan inspired Chinese restaurant to choose from. We are 9 KM from the airport and 6 KM from the city centre. We hope you will visit.
Situated within the 5 star complex of the Crowne Plaza. This is by far the Grand Est place I visited in Jinghong. Very impressive with the Gardens and swimming pools. The buffet dining area, inside (non smoking) and outside, is big with tables of various sizes to suit large parties or couples. The space given to each table is generous so, although busy, it doesn't feel crowded.
As one would expect the food was great and plenty of it. Tender steak slices, succulent pork, lamb, chicken and fish. Pizzas, Tacos, Dai BBQ, rice, dumplings, noodles, vegetables and more. For seafood fans there's oysters, scallops, crab and prawns and other crustaceans.
To help wash it down and prepare yourself for the 5th helping there's fruit juice, local beer ('Harbin', how that's local is a mystery), red wine and other carbonated drinks.
Desserts; various cakes and gateau's, frest fruits, ice-cream etc. Nicely rounded off with a coffee or tea.
If you can eat/drink all this, then the Y188 per head, is well worth the money. I was told but cannot confirm, that included in the price of the ticket, is the use of the hotels swimming pool. So it would be a great place to spend an afternoon and then dinner which adds more value to the ticket.
The buffet started to close around 10pm after which we sloped off to the hotels 'S-Bar' ('The Place to Be in JInghong', their words). That's for another reveiw but I will say there was an intriguing pole and a couple of Russian lady dancers there.
A bit of trek to get here from the city if you don't have your own transport. If your getting a taxi here I'd suggest you also book it for the return journey as there's not much traffic passing this place.

The food was great and the atmosphere was too. The menu is loaded with options so there should be something for everyone. Ive eaten better Thai food, but this was nice and the prices were decent.

As someone who enjoys a good brew, I was very excited to finally find a place in Jinghong that has great coffee - there is a roaster in their cafe and they roast their beans themselves. When we were there at the end of last year, there were beans from Guatemala as well as local Yunnan beans - freshly ground! Awesome! (I would also recommend the Sichuan pizza there)
