Issyk-Kul Region (Kyrgyz: Ысык-Көл облусу, Isıq-Köl oblusu, ىسىق-كۅل وبلاستى; Russian: Иссык-Кульская область, Issyk-Kuljskaja oblastj) is one of the regions of Kyrgyzstan. Its capital is Karakol. It is surrounded by Almaty Region, Kazakhstan (north), Chuy Region (west), Naryn Region (southwest) and Xinjiang, China (southeast). It takes its name from Lake Issyk-Kul ("warm lake"), the second largest saline lake in the world, which never freezes despite its altitude in the Tian Shan mountains.

Having been mightily impressed with the Kochevnik at lunchtime, we were recommended this place by some local people. There was a good mix of locals and foreign travellers dining there - initially a good sign. We dined outside, although we wee told that the over-table light "wasn't working", it spontaneously lit-up, without any obvious human intervention, after about 20 minutes. The atmosphere is "boutique" with music and videos. The food itself was disappointing and very ordinary and the service was also very poor with one dish arriving very late indeed - and it was cold when it did arrive.

The coffee (Americano) was really aromatic. Unfortunately it failed to deliver in terms of taste, and the coffee was quite weak. They have some interesting menu items, which are not generally available in Kyrgyzstan. Eg first time I've seen peanut butter and jelly Sandwich on the menu.

Brilliant if you want to watch sports. (Brilliant in terms of what the rest of Karakol offers, don't expect wall to wall TVs). The meals are wide ranging, but in classic Central Asian style the full selection isn't always on offer. Staff are friendly, especially when you ask to watch some football.

Located a block off the main street, this restaurant has a nice setting, fast service and good local food (recommended by a local who eats there often). Our group enjoyed lag man noodles, shorpa soup, greek salad, and sizzling beef with vegetables. All the food was good but the sizzling beef and the local bread was particularly good. Next time we will try the manty dumplings!

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen! Welcome to the café of the eastern cuisine "Dastorkon"! "Dastorkon" is a modern cafe, created in the best traditions of eastern hospitality. We believe that the enjoyment of a meal should begin before you try our first meal. The highlight of the cafe is a traditional cuisine of nomandic people, which our chefs prepare according to the national recipes. Respect for ancient Eastern traditions obliged to prepare meals with fresh vegetables, herbs and juicy meat. "Dastorkon" is a cafe of the eastern cuisine with the eastern hospitality!

Most foreigners passing through eat at U-Ribaka, but this place was also good, but smaller. There were about 6 tables inside and maybe 8 outside on a covered porch. Menu was same as everywhere, although prices seemed better. On the evening I dined there was only Arpa on tap, no other beers and the Arpa was flat. No internet if that's important for you and it had a 12" TV on above the bar area that nobody could see, but it still filled the restaurant with the TV program noise.

In our cafe we only use organic and locally grown products coming from farmers' fields in Tyan Shan Mountains and from local peasants' Gardens. With Piligrim you will have a tour to the world of gastronomy. The menu offers variety of courses from all over the globe, including central asian, chinese, russian, italian and mediterranean cuisine.
the place is just awesome. Astonishing lake view and scent of flowers surrounding the tables create truly Mediterranean atmosphere. The service was both great and very quick. I liked the fact that the owners source food ingredients from local farmers only. Evelina, one of the owners, was so kind and welcoming and gave our group great advice about local sightseeings.
