What makes this little word of mouth gem so special... it's humble food cooked well, menu of indulgent favorites, good service... and creamy rich ice cream! Where else can you go for fried pickles and a vanilla shake at 9pm on a hot summer night?
This place has potential to be a gold mine! In Autumn they should add apple cider and homemade cider DOUGHNUTS, delicious treat while taking in the beautiful changing leaves in fall. PS- rumor has it, Higgie's might be for sale? Awesome place!

This is a wonderful little local restaurant serving homemade foods at great prices. Open for breakfast and lunch 7 days a week, and serving breakfast all day. My husband and I had a delicious fresh BLT wrap and I had eggplant fried with marinara sauce for dipping. Friendly great service as well.

This is your typical Dunkin Donuts but amazingly enough, their coffee is better than other DDs in the area. The staff is very polite.

Had lunch during a recent day trip to Wesleyen University. The atmosphere is urban/industrial and is family and kid friendly. We went in expecting typical pizza shop fare, but found a complete Italian menu with something for every appetite. The food was delicious and the portions are huge.

This is a restaurant that has taste - taste in decor and taste on the menu. Not your usual darkly lit restaurant with oriental zodiac place mats, the place is well lit, well appointed and comfortable. Our meals were flavorful and of nice portions. My wife's Hot Basil Chicken was excellent and flavorful. My Garlic Sauce Chicken had great flavor although I thought too sweet and without imperceptible heat (which it was supposed to have). Both had fresh vegetables cooked perfectly. Plenty of nice hot tea. Wonderful waiter, although they got hit with a number of takeout orders which slowed down our service both in placing our order and being served. As we were leaving, one woman was returning her takeout as it was the wrong thing (and someone else probably got the wrong thing, too). We'll definitely go back to try other dishes.

The Blue Oar is about happy. Connecticut River almost directly across from Goodspeed Landing. Chairs and tables of cheerful color grouped on terraces in shad and sun. A menu offering that changes with fresh food but is meticulously prepared in the style of all Simon Market offerings [with freshness, simplicity and care[ that deliver more than the average YUM quota.
Prices are reasonable. Lobster roll is delish, but so are the very interesting fish, chicken and vegetarian offerings. The veg are colorful and crisp.
Unfortunately for the waistline, the array of freshly made deserts is so appealling it takes very strong discipline to resist. So, why resist?
All sorts of non-alcoholic drinks for sale.
One may bring alcoholic drinks to consume with Blue Oar food.
Charming. Friendly. Cooked to order.
Cannot imagine anyone leaving less than hugely happy.

Cute place, good Chai tea latte. Open minds. You can't miss it at a major intersection. Wish it was more of a gift shop. Only a few items and shirts for sale.

Had the boneless buffalo chicken (again) and it never disappoints. Always hot and delicious. Recommend it to anyone. Get extra blue cheese.

This is the best ice cream for the area! Portions are large which makes the kids happy! Absolutely the best soft served ice cream ever! So creamy and smooth...it's amazing! You may not want to try the other flavors...it's that good! This is worth the visit!

The prices seemed a little high for what you got. All meals are over $10pp. Seating is outside, so hopefully the weather is good. I believe most of their business is run through take out. The take out area is indoors, but there are only a couple of tables to sit at. If you are coming with a group, there is a lot of seating outside, but this will only work well in warmer months. Service was slow. Came here for lunch and there were not many other tables, but service was still very slow.
