Many fish restaurants look alike in Istabul. As I was entering Mavi I did not expect to have a very special and delicious meal. They cook very interesting and tasty mezzes like mussels with saffrone, shrimp boerek and stuffed artichoke...
Do not expect too much about the decoration or ambience and the service is friendly but just "ok". It is a very idyllic place away from the hassle of the city. It definitely is a local gem!

We were invited in by the host Ali Temes who was a very polite and welcoming gentleman. Our dinner, perfectly grilled fresh Cupra fish (Dorade) and tomato salad was simply delicious. Ali gave us complimentary tea and Turkish coffee as well as slices of watermelon which was really nice. The prices were very reasonable and the Seating right by the Sea of Marmara was unforgettable! We really enjoyed it.

An extremely elegant small restaurant! With the most tastefull soup and meatballs that i had ever tried. The owner was an excellent host. Only four plates but all of them the best that i had tried all around the Instabul.

I live in Istanbul so I wasn't visiting Basak as a tourist. We were a group of 6 work colleagues, hungry after a meeting. Yes, the décor and fluorescent bulbs are nothing special but the mezes were delicious, the sigara böreği hot and tasty, the tomato soup amazing and the portions of meat were ample and well cooked. Don't come for the atmosphere - come for the great food!

This was our go-to spot in Balat. Family who run it are very nice. Food is great and the prices are for locals... cheap. If you want to have real Turkish food in a real neighborhood this is a good place. We ate there 5 times in one week!

It was a hot day in the centre of Istanbul and we were pleased to get away from ground floor and up about 4 lights of stairs to look down on the street.Food, drink and service perfectly acceptable.

It was a very quiet day (1st October) that we visited for lunch. Warmly welcomed (we were practically the only customers in the whole area!) we chose to sit outdoors (although it was cool). Service was helpful and the mixed appetisers were great as was the main course (shared between the two of us) of tuna (bonito). It was small steaks taken from the tail and grilled. We had it with the Heyamola salad - very good. The Efes malt beer was a great accompaniment.

This a very small but warm restaurant. You may eat very delicous Turkish traditional food such as MANTI with a very reasonable price. The owner lady prepares home dishes.

I must admit that the cafe has a wonderfully nostalgic atmosphere BUT I couldn't believe the fact that Iced Coffee was made with Nescafe Gold. This place needs to have some real coffee, it is a nightmare for coffee addicts like me. Also, keep in mind that it doesn't have a WC.
