Hatteras Island is a barrier island off the coast of North Carolina, on the Atlantic Ocean. Famed for its lighthouse and long sandy beaches, it is a great family friendly place for a relaxing holiday. Many people visiting Hatteras Island will be looking for a beach holiday, and the long sandy beaches looking out over the Atlantic Ocean are well worth exploring - even at the height of summer or the 4th of July weekend you can usually find a good stretch of beach all to yourselves. Canadian Hole, between the towns of Buxton and Avon, is a particularly good spot. In addition to the beach itself, the waters of Pamlico Sound are perfect for wading, and tourists flock there as the conditions are perfect for windsurfing and kite boarding. In terms of sightseeing there is also the lighthouse, which was moved inland in 1999 to protect it from coastal erosion, and the 825 acre Buxton Coastal Reserve, an area of maritime woodland full of spectacular wildlife (there have even been sightings of bald eagles) and plenty of hiking trails for those members of the family looking for a bit more exercise.

We purchased 2 pounds of steamed shrimp and three shrimp and crabmeat enchiladas and they were every bit as good as other reviewers have stated. We also enjoyed their homemade wahoo salad - very tasty. Vicky is really sweet and she spent a few minutes chatting with us while we waited for our order. We will definitely go back the next time we are in Hatteras.

It’s not quite the season for the Outer Banks as it’s the week before Easter. We needed a quick lunch before the kids went riding with Equine Adventures just down the road.
Wow! The food, the service, the prices were simply amazing! From the Crabby Pattie, the shrimp Po’boy or the chicken fajita platter, the quality and quantity of food served was fantastic.
This is a “must visit” location. You will not be disappointed!

Cafe Pamlico provides a world class casual fine dining experience through exceptional food, outstanding detail oriented service, an inspired wine and cocktail program, and gracious attentive Southern hospitality. Our contemporary coastal cuisine is driven by locally sourced seafood, meats, and produce. Our menu changes frequently in accordance with the fresh ingredients our chefs discover on the island, most notably the fresh local seafood we feature. We are committed to supporting local farmers and artisan food producers first, sustainable resources second, and organic third. Reservations are highly recommended.
We were so lucky. My brother in law and my wife and her sister needed to celebrate complete of a series of repairs on our beach house in Salvo, NC on the beautiful Outer Banks. Fortunately we chose The Inn at Pamlico Sound. While somewhat expensive, it was wonderful. We sat at a window booth, facing the Albemarle Sound, and enjoyed two bottles of wine and four different delicious entrees which we shared. The variety was such that we all felt we had to try everything. The food and atmosphere were ideal and all of us were filled to the gills. We shall return to this hidden treasure in Buxton on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, our home away from home.

Simply put this is a great sandwich restaurant - great food and great service - immaculate and the people are so very nice.
My wife and I were on Hatteras Island for business - she went to Bro's for lunch and I had takeout from Bro's and when we later compared notes we were in total agreement: Bro's is terrific.
We live about 90 minutes away but its worth the drive - we shall return.

Full service restaurant with beautiful view of Pamlico sound and Teachs Lair marina. Sunset view over the water everyday! Outside decks with outside seating available. Serving Dinner Tuesday through Sunday 4:00pm-9:00pm
We could walk here from our condo. We had a great chardonnay. The she-crab soups was very good. I had the shrimp and grits. It was prepared like I have never had. Large portion (had for breakfast the next day). The wait staff was excellent. Great view of the sound and the marina.

We had Mahi Mahi from Risky Business and it was delicious. We asked for two fillets and it was enough to feed four people! If you're looking for fresh fish, this is the place to go.

Open year round, Burger Burger is a local's favorite for burgers, wraps, wings, hot dogs, fresh local seafood and kids menu. In the summer time we make hand spun milkshakes and fresh squeezed lemonade. We welcome large groups and have big tables to accommodate in a casual, friendly atmosphere.
My husband's burger was moist and delicious with all his toppings and ad an added bonus that happens rarely unless requested, his roll was grilled. I ordered one of the lunch specials that was the fresh fried shrimp basket. For 13 dollars I was presented...MoreThank you so much for the great review! So glad you enjoyed you lunch and thanks for mentioning your server, Maggie.

The covered patio is a great place to watch the sunset, although the seating on benches isn't comfortable so not conducive to a lingering evening. You place food orders at the bar (a bit odd) but it is brought to the table when it's ready. We had pork ribs with four different sides. I found the ribs tasty but a little over-cooked. The slaw and mixed veggie sides were good, but the nachos were just that (inedible without the usual accompaniment of sour cream and guacamole) and the mash was okay. For drinks we had beers on tap served in thin plastic containers.
Coming from South Africa, I found the bill of $90 really excessive - we would get FAR better service, better venue, better food and wine for that price. But perhaps that's what Americans are used to?

Our visit to this restaurant started with a recommendation from a competitor. We usually stay at The Inn On Pamlico Sound when we visit Cape Hatteras and often dine at their on-site Cafe Pamlico which is outstanding in itself. But sometimes you just want something different. Maybe it's atmosphere, new choices, the view etc. There was a 'manual' in our room listing things to do and places to go and a list of recommended restaurants in the area. Dinky's was on that list, maybe 10 miles away or so and had some great comments associated with it. So, off we go. Now we must have driven past here 50 times and never really took notice to it. Small sign, sits back from the highway, stone parking, yadda, yadda, yadda. BUT, we're telling you DON"T pass this one by. Our meals were absolutely delicious, the drinks well made and the view and the atmosphere were just terrific. The Spicy Tuna Tartare is outstanding! We will definitely make Dinky's a regular stop when we are in the area.
