Haputale (හපුතලේ in Sinhala Language) is a town of Badulla District in the Uva Province, Sri Lanka, governed by an Urban Council. The elevation is 1431 m (4695 ft) above the sea level. The area has a rich bio-diversity dense with numerous varieties of flora and fauna. Haputale is surrounded by hills covered with cloud forests and tea plantations. The town has a cooler climate than its surroundings, due to its elevation. The Haputale pass allows views across the Southern plains of Sri Lanka. The South-West boundary of Uva basin is marked by the Haputale mountain ridges, which continue on to Horton Plains and Adam's Peak to the west. CNN in 2010 named Haputale as one of Asia's most overlooked destinations.

Tasty food at a good price! Go for the traditional Sri Lankan curry, lots of food! Beer is not served but plenty bars in Ella to get a beer after your meal!

If you look for authentic local food (with a few western options as well) try this place. Best for curry (chicken w all condiments) and their potato salad w onions; amazing. Also good for people watching over Main Street. The in-keeper with wife was very friendly and accommodated me after a short waiting time with warmth and a smile.
I will be back when traveling to SLanka in the future.

The best food our family had in Sri Lanka!
Sat in the corner that looks out at the forest and watched the birds while we enjoyed the Sri Lankan breakfast and the fruit roti, both were good. Very close to the start of Little adams peak, would recommend before or after the hike.

This restaurant is cheapest. For me and my boyfriend is restaurant average. Rice and curry with chicken was not tasty but chicken kottu was tasty.

This is definitely one of the best restaurants I have dined in Ella. Food quality is great, presentation is beautiful, and the prices are comparable to the other restaurants in the area. Decided to take a break from Sri Lankan food during our 2 week holiday and saw this restaurant included an Italian menu. A (small) queue waiting for a table suggested it was popular and we were not disappointed, the food and atmosphere were very good. We chose a pasta dish, it was very tasty and well cooked, certainly equivalent to good Italian restaurants that I've visited in UK and across Europe but considerably less expensive. We were so impressed that we returned the following evening. The restaurant also offers Japanese and Sri Lankan dishes. The restaurant is a little difficult to find as it is off the main street but is well worth the effort.

We Provide Cooking Classes Daily At 4:30pm
This class costs 2000 rupees (£10) and was a good introduction to cooking some of the meals that we had eaten already during our time in Sri Lanka.
The class started at 5 and we cooked until about half 7 before sitting down to eat our meal. All the options we made were vegetarian (though we were told what other veg or meat we could use at home instead). We were shown how to make momordica Curry, breadfruit curry, dahl, artichoke curry, coconut roti and an aubergine dish.
It was fun and informative but I was hoping we would make our own dishes individually. Instead we chopped the vegetables while the guide cooked the dishes himself, he would explain what he was doing and we would make notes for ourselves. We weren't given a recipe book.
The place can be reached by tuk tuk (he can call one for you on the way back) or can be reached on foot if you are staying in Ella town.

Food is tasty and reasonably priced but the service is slow and crap. We were ‘temporarily’ sat on a tiny stool in the corner while we waited for a table to become free but the table went to someone who’d just walked in off the street! Our food took an hour to arrive, even the popadoms that when asked if we wanted with our drinks we said yes!
Come an hour before you want to eat...
