Nestled in the Northern Japan Alps, Hakuba is all about the winter sports. A top ski and snowboarding destination, Hakuba has plenty of snow and nearly perfect powder. Spend the day swooshing down one of the areas 200+ trails, then end with an après ski at one of the area’s cozy pubs or cafes. Local mineral hot springs make great soaking spots for weary muscles.

Our family enjoyed dinner here. It was typical pub fare that went over well with the the grandchildren.
They have a good local dark beer on tap (Yabishi - sp?) that met my criteria!
They are closed on Tuesdays and Reservations are not required, but you may want to go early or late.

Wide variety of fresh sushi and sashimi on menu. Generous portions. Fattiest tuna belly sashimi is unreal and a must order item off the menu. Had high expectations coming here which were exceeded. Dont bother coming without a reservation, the place is packed. Best sushi in Hakuba.

This restaurant is a bit of a drive from Central Hakuba/Echoland however we felt it was worth the trip. The atmosphere is casual and friendly. Our group of 4 grazed widely on the menu and there were no disappointments. The bartender owner is a real character. This is not fancy dining but rather a warm place to have a few beers and dinner while swapping stories of the day's turns.

My wife and I enjoyed lunch here and were pleasantly surprised. The sandwiches were ample and very tasty. Both the Tuna and pastrami went well with a beer and hot chocolate. We highly recommend a visit here for lunch. They are closed on Thursday.

Love coffee ? Then you'll love Bamboo Coffee Bar at Hakuba station. Since 2008 Bamboo's Mission has been to save Hakuba from mediocre coffee, and every cup of coffee created by Bamboo's baristas since then has helped Bamboo in its quest. So share the love at Bamboo - where J-coffee is consigned to history.
This is an excellent little cafe with English speaking staff. The hot chocolate was amazing as were the home made pies. We even took one extra as a takeaway. Right next to the train station, didn't have the coffee but believe it is good too. Don't miss this one.

Visited Maeda for lunch on our rest day and we were not disappointed. The service was impeccable (love the complimentary green tea) and the food was divine. We ordered the chicken karaage and hot udon with pork - flavours were amazing and would definitely recommend a visit!!

Let Hummingbird be your home away from home! At Hummingbird, you can enjoy Japanese and Western home-style cuisine made with the freshest seasonal ingredients. We provide a warm, welcoming environment perfect for spending an evening with family and friends. Our menu includes several vegetarian options, as well as a wide selection of sake, shochu and cocktails.
Our family of four (children aged 13 and11) had dinner at Hummingbird on our last night in Hakuba, as it was booked out for a while. I can honestly say I am thrilled we got to experience Hummingbird before our 2 weeks in Hakuba was over. It is one of those very special restaurants that you will remember for a long time- warm friendly service, nice ambience, exquisite food.
Each meal was absolutely delicious, particularly the Flambéed chicken with white wine and cream and the Terriyaki chicken. Apple pie for dessert was amazing too.
It's not a cheap night, and it is leisurely paced as there is only the husband and wife running the restaurant- but well worth a visit. Would highly recommend.

Be prepared to wait in line for a meal after 630pm. Groups of 4 are the max in terms of Seating arrangements, get 2 tables. Do not walk away, this one is worth the wait. Sushimi, etc are all good. My favourite was the mackerel.

Contemporary interpretations of European cuisine using the best of the magnificent local produce in an opulent setting, matched with an iconic international wine list.
If you're looking for a 5 star experience in Hakuba, this is it. From the service to the food (taste and presentation!), Mimi's was a perfect meal out. We left feeling absolutely full and everything we ate was delicious. The oysters were the biggest I've had in my life, and the cocktail and wine menus were fantastic. You MUST try the chestnut ravioli - heaven! The price reflects the experience, as with all five star restaurants, and the staff are very attentive. I couldn't fault Mimi's at all and would hope to return if I am ever back in Hakuba.

See from the outside, or even from just inside the front door and Yamagami looks tiny. Once inside however you realise that the Seating is surrounding the kitchen and the restaurant is quite sizable.
This place is fun.
All of the food is designed to share.
We had both the meat and vegetable gyoza (5 pieces each). Delicious. Seeing the 30 piece “party packs” come out made us wish we were part of a bigger group!
We then opted for the cook yourself BBQ at the table. This is a simple, wonderful way to eat. The sauces were delicious. The ingredients wonderfully fresh.
Another for my “must go” list for Hakuba.
