Are you in Gythion and looking for a restaurant to eat ? The restaurant "SAGA" is the appropriate place, as with its many years of experience is still offering its clients unique and tasty dishes , such as : spaghettis with shrimps, fish soup, fresh fishes, fried squids, octopus, grilled meat and a great variety of starters, salads and boiled vegetables. 'SAGA' is open all year long: during winter time with the fireplace for a warm and cosy atmosphere and in summer by the seaside, admiring the Laconian gulf and the Kranai island .
This restaurant attracks attention by its nicely layed tables. The owner and his staff give you an exeptionel service. The tasteful fish is filleted at the table. During our annual stay in Gytheio, we have dinner here every evening, so that should say enough. Prices are very democratic.
This business is certainly worth a visit, and even more than one.

Take the time to travel it from the main town of Gythio for a true Greek tavern experience - not the usual touristy food you get in the harbour shore.
Not only is the food well priced but the quality is incredible. From the regions olive oil to the way all the meals were cooked and presented.
We visited twice during our stay - it was that good.
Everything on the menu is excellent! Moussaka, stuffed bifteki, lamb chops.
Try the local wine - it's just delicious.
The service was so friendly - it's a lovely family owned tavern part of a small village in the higher part of the region.

Traditional Greek cousine since 1987 with emphasis in seafood and local specialties from Mani. All dishes cooked with extra virgin olive oil and vegetables collected from local producers. The owners operate their business 12 months a year with hospitality and friendly care for all their visitors.

Welcome to grill-restaurant O! live, This year Souvlaki mou become O! live, with the same passion but with a new menu we will try to take you through a culinary journey which will rise your senses in a unique dining experience by the sea… EAT & MEET at O! live
Everything, from the wine to the bread, were fresh and delicious. Congrats to the chef who cooks most of the time all these tasteful dishes. The fish souvlaki is amazing and the really friendly cook who seems to be the owner is more than polite (he looks like an experienced ship captain with his beard and bald head). Too bad his waiter is not standing by his side as he is promoting his own taverna in a close by village (named liberton , or something like that). And every time we were giving credit to the flavors of O!live he would reply: our taverna has better flavors....Perhaps the owner should have a chat with him.
Definitely try this fish souvlaki!

The tavern "The Good Heart" is located in Chosiari, in the passage leading from Gythio to Areopolis, 10 km from Gythio, just opposite to Passava Castle. It is a known hangout for local gourmets, offering homemade food made with the finest materials, many of which are produced by the owners. Here you will find a wide variety of classic and original appetizers, Greek cuisine, meats and seafood.
This is not your standard taverna for the region - the food is not seafood-based, the menu is huge and the portion sizes are crazy-big. We ordered a few dishes (the eggplant with tomato and feta, the 'patties', and homemade pasta with a crumb and fried egg (called macaroni on the menu but nothing at all like it)) - these dishes were all huge and perfect in flavour. True homecoming. On top of that we were served an assortment of bruschetta, dips and breads to start and a very sweet dessert in water to finish. Both were delicious. To finish it all off, the meal was amazingly cheap. The perfect place.

Just a couple restaurants south of the port, right on the water, is a very nice place with very fresh daily fish at a great price. They have their own fishing boat, and have a true Greek menu. The grilled octopus was particularly good, as was their houritiki (Greek) salad and taramasalada (fish roe). They could use a better red barrel wine but the white and rose was cold and good. Service is a little rough around the edges, but the real treat is the quality fish at very good prices.
