Located in Sortelha, a ancient Portuguese village in the middle of nowhere, you’ll find this cozy restaurant in an old building, divided in 3 floors.
Friendly staff, lovely cuisine: try “Arroz de lebre” or any main course with “cabrito” or even “borrego” (lamb).
Desserts are very good also. For me egg pudin is top!
Before or after do a walk through the old village, along the small streets and big walls!

Arrived during midday for an excellent lunch. Warm friendly welcome by owner who made great suggestions. A great selection of starters of which blood sausage with caramelised are well remembered.
Main dishes were great. Spinach well prepared and creamy went well with lomo and ginger rice. Subtle tasting but de piece de resistance was the chicken which came in it's own gravy with a creamy stock and bacon dices. This was divine and was so smooth it melted on my tongue. Divine!
Highly recommended and would like to commend the chef.
Have a coffee and relax bear riverside. A good 30 minutes walk.

Stopped in for dinner. First time we've seen Cabrito on the menu since we've been in Portugal. Since we love baby goat, we all ordered it -- some just grilled and some with the Port sauce (they have it both ways). It was very disappointing. All we got was back bones and rib bones. Very little meat. Lots of fat. Where are the roasts, chops and steaks? What do they do with the real meat? I don't know, but they don't serve it here. For the first time in Portugal I left a restaurant hungry (despite eating the ubiquitous potatoes, rice and veggies that come with the meal) because there was almost no meat in the dish! It was all fat and bones. Maybe we just ordered the wrong thing, since we are judging this restaurant on only one dish, but hey, that's all we've got to go on.

On our walking tour thought the city of Guarda we were looking for a place to have lunch and found this restaurant... Between the two of us we had the octopus salad, the shellfish soup and the dish of the day; salmon fillets with bread stew, all very tasty. The house wine (red) was excellent.

In the middle of nowhere, in Mizarela, a quiet little Portuguese town, i have to say this is almost an icon of the Portuguese traditional food. Try the "Bacalhau" (codfish) and all the lamb tasty food!
In a beautiful valley, 20 minutes from the capital of the district, Guarda, try it... you will never regret...

First be aware that this is in NO way a Mexican restaurant and this should be taken out of the description. The food is very good and the portions are large. But their menu is basically the same fair as all the other restaurants in town but more expensive. Something odd was going on during our visit because the waiter/ owner ( the only on on the floor) kept going back into the kitchen to have some words with the kitchen staff. The Deserts looked delicious but we did not get to try them because the portions were very filling. Smoking is allowed inside.

We been recently in this restaurant by searching on a portuguese restaurant guide, and the surprise was great. We started by the local charcuterie, and other delicious starters they served as soon as we got to the table. After my wife had a grilled sea bass that was delicious and i had some lamb chops with garlic that were to die for.
Had local wine recommended by the owner. He chose a delicious Douro that matched really well with the lamb.
When passing by this unknown area of Portugal is worth a visit to this restaurant.

One night in town and didn't know where to go so relied on previous Trip Advisor reviews, which were reliable. Food was good, staff helpful in explaining/translating as there was no English menu available. 2 mains (Carne de Porc and Febras Grelhadas), a lovely dessert (Lambadinha), half bottle of Douro wine and s soft drink with coffees all for €26.40 - great value.
