I live in Illinois, but we wanted to take my step-kids out for breakfast/lunch and they live in Hobart. I found this restaurant on line and it looked pretty good. It was better than good, it was great! 4 of us had breakfast, and 1 had lunch. Everyone loved their food. They also serve Kona coffee, which is my hubby's favorite, and it was very good! We enjoyed omelets, biscuits and gravy, really delicious pancakes, scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, sausage, bacon and a chicken wrap. The biggest negatives were the hashbrowns, which were homemade, but just meh. Nothing wrong with them, just nothing exciting. The place is also very small, and there is a wait on a Sunday morning. Other than those 2 minor things, everything, including the superb service was perfect!

Friendly staff, clean restaurant, cozy decor, make this restaurant a repeat location for lunch and dinner. The best pizza, without question, is the best pizza in town.

Flamingo deserves the highest rating just because it remains true to the original. Decades ago, you could get this pizza in Gary, then Glen Park....It was a slightly greasy, thin crust pizza...perfect bar food and was famous for it. That was then....but now, you can relive that in the Miller neighborhood in Gary. To top it off, they have great fried perch and very reasonable prices. Sure, the place is smoky, (sit in the back for better air) crowded, (there is good reason for this...) but very friendly.

My husband loves the wonderful pork chops and I love the fresh fish dishes. Adore the wedge salad and great deals on wine Tuesday nights. The wait staff is friendly and attentive and the ambiance is fantastic either in the dining room or at the bar. Highly recommended!

We were driving from Chicago to Ann Arbor and stopped here for lunch. Waze took us there and it looked like we were going to nowhere. But at Miller's Crossing next to a Catholic Church is the Captain's House! Eclectically decorated with nautically themed knickknacks covering the colorfully painted walls, and a nice small patio to also dine on, we enjoyed a tasty repast on a Friday afternoon. Here you can eat breakfast all day (and we hear it is a great breakfast site), but they also have a fine luncheon meal with their famous lobster sandwich, fish tacos, grilled goat cheese fritter salad, etc. There were gorgeous looking cakes in the display case, and we also had imported Italian gelato--yum! The small bathroom is decorated with black and white pictures of dogs that don't belong to the owner, and the one on the door has a dog defecating--a sly joke on the "poop" deck of a ship.

This place is well run clean inviting in a safe area. The ribs are excellent , tender , the sauce can't be beat. They serve generous portions at a very good price.

!8th Street Brewery is the beach neighborhood gathering point. The beer is so good that a new beer release will bring 500+ of which many are from Chicago. They come on the South Shore Railroad that stops one block from they brewery. So, no worries about drinking and driving. My favorite brewery.

Great Lakes doesn't look like much from the outside, as does the surrounding area, but it is was so good. Although it is right off of I-90, I found it a bit difficult to find. However once inside, everything was good. We stopped for breakfast on our way home from Chicago. It was breakfast the way I would make it for guests. Service was so friendly and the food was fantastic. Definitely will stop in next time we are in the area.

I was looking for somewhere to take my wife for dinner that wasn't a chain or franchise and stumbled on this place. In a word ... Wow!!
Great food, good service, and a pleasant "neighborhood" ambiance.
We sat outside enjoying a perfect Indiana summer evening. I had the "surf and turf" - prime rib and lobster and my wife had the perch. Both meals were perfect.
My only other comment is that I prefer a "crusty" dinner roll rather than a soft one. However, this is preference, not criticism.
We'll definitely be back.

I felt very welcome in this place which focuses on healthy products. I had a cocoa inspired drink & my friend had a banana strawberry smoothie (I can't remember the names). There were many smoothie choices and she patiently & joyfully answered our questions. There are homemade items as well as supplements. Do stop in & support this business!
