Figueres is the birthplace of Salvador Dali and home to the Dali Museum, one of the most-visited Spanish museums. Not surprisingly, it is the place for the lovers of fine art. Close to the border with France, this Catalan city offers great food, wine, and beaches. Figueres is just 15 minutes by car or 25 minutes by train from the beaches of Costa Brava. Not as touristy as Barcelona, the city offers a relaxing atmosphere, quiet cafes, an historic Old Town and square, and even a castle.

Very nice food, without muzak, let down by various details. Firstly the serving staf never asked us if everything was alright, because had they done so we would have told them that their 'hot' courses did not arrive hot. The plates travel from the ground floor to a first floor reception before they are served to the table so the food at best arrives warm, but because the plates themselves have not been warmed the food chills down quickly. Also a main course of fish and fried potato without a sauce or even a tomato is very dry.

We had never been inside the Hotel Duran although Figueres has been a regular destination for us and our friends over the last 10 years. We were bowled over by the sumptuous decorations - chandeliers, stained glass, Dali paintings on the walls - and further delighted by the quality of the food: a salad/fish soup with rice and mussels; côtelettes d'agneau, a pear in chocolate and chocolate sauce/litttle beignets filled with cream. All this on the set menu at €20!! And the reception staff, maître d' and waiters - everyone - so nice!

GPS takes you to this place, no obvious parking, and you're unsure if it's part of the car wash that it adjoins. We went in because we were hungry and didn't know where else to try. The food was amazing and really cheap (should be...MoreDear Customer, thank you very much for your opinion. Our main objective is to offer an economic menu with fresh products, and we are glad that you have valued it. Hope to see you again in Figueres!

Friendly welcoming staff, good atmosphere, tasty food promptly cooked and served, with good wine. What more can one want? Oh yes....a reasonable price. Txot's ticks all the boxes. Try it.

The family tend to like plain food and have avoided tapas until now. The display of the food and its simplicity and quality Won them over on this occasion and I am glad that was the case!
Excellent tapas particularly the smoked salmon croissants, great hot tapas (baked Camembert) and chicken with onion on a filo pastry and BBQ base. Simple but delightful.

Great lunchtime spent here. The set lunch menu was 12e50 and for that we had 3 courses and drinks/bread were included. The size of all plates was incredible, the starters looked like mains. You could easily have paid 12e50 just for 1 course in many parts of Europe. Thoroughly recommended but you'll need to get in early or wait until the locals have left.

I have had lunch and was disappointed after Reading all the enthusiastic comments on tripadvisor. The mussels as starter were just eatable but net very good. The fish (rape) of the main course was missing some vegetables, it came just with two sauces.
I do not recommend this place

A group of a dozen of us had a cheese tasting lunch with cheeses selected by Artur Sagues, former El Bulli cheese guru. I'm not a cheese fanatic but it was an instructive lunch paired with, among others, a surprisingly affordable red wine, Satirs, which I really liked and a lovely salad.

El lloc Cafe Bistrot is located near the Municipal Market and the Place de la Palmera. Enjoy a welcoming atmosphere, Catalan vaults and stone walls, decorated with originality. You can take an artisan coffee roasting , or having a lunch with the menu elaborate with market food, all done by us. El Chef speaks in a respectful, simple and careful kitchen. We offer breakfast, lunch, tapas, vermouth, wine, artisan snack. The set is amazing and refined.

The detour involved is finding this place slightly away from the action in Figueres. There is, however, both on- & off-street parking within 2 minutes walk, and you don't pay for parking meters between 1:00pm & 4:00pm!
The restaurant itself is not the most luxurious you will ever find, though perfectly respectable. It's the quality of the food and the cooking that makes it worth finding El Lloc, as well as the pleasant atmosphere. They also introduced us to a great wine (Dinarells Negre) which comes from the Garriguella cooperative just two villages away from our own.
We went for the lunch menu and it's fantastic value. Next time we go, we'll try the evening offerings.
Thank you, Fabien, for such an excellent lunch.

We were kicking our heels waiting for a pre-booked visit to the Dalí museum around the corner so decided to stop here for ice-creams and beer. They also do tapas which looked to be really good prices although we didn't eat here. The service was slick and there's loads of outside Seating.
For a Dalí visit, you can't miss the pun of the Dalícatessen!
