When you're sick of pizza and gelato, go here.
Set in the picturesque countryside well outside of Ferrara, there are many things to recommend this restaurant:
- the devoted supervision of the owner, who makes sure everything runs smoothly
- superb Italian wines, well matched to the food
- excellent attentive service (bordering on too fast, however)
- food that manages to be traditional without being boring
A great experience. These people need to open a hotel and make it a destination restaurant.
I had the 44 euro tasting menu (one of several, the cheapest) and it was worth it.
The 53 euro version, with paired wines that are poured generously, is fantastic.
5 stars not because the food blew my mind, but because they are so attentive to detail.
A real pleasure.

Specialita Pesce E Crudita
We are on the way to Bologna and decided to have a sumptous lunch in Ferrara. Looking at so many choices at tripadvisor, we decided to just call this restaurant since our first choice was closed for lunch. As we entered the resto, it was empty. Doubtful if it will turn out to be a good one, we decided to just give it a go.
The staff took our coats and hang it nicely and greeted us with a smile. She was very attentive to our needs and our friend's son.
To make the story short, we started with a carpaccio as our antipasto which is so amazing. I and my friend ordered spaghetti with seafood and lobster. The time that they served our lunch it was like looking at the love of my life the first time we met. Hahaha! Desserts were good. But what made it rated above the rest of italian places we've been is, the owner spoke to us and asked more of our travel itineraries which made us very special.
Visit this hidden gem when you get a chance.

The intimacy of a small room with just six tables with views of the kitchen, you will enjoy a dining experience in an exclusive atmosphere. Don Giovanni bases its origins on over 25 years of experience in the restaurant business Italian and international Chef Pier Luigi Di Diego and the daily and careful research of raw materials of the season and first quality. Our garden of 1.2 hectare, diversified from May to October, is located at Marrara near the former headquarters of the restaurant and allow us to use fresh raw materials that are processed in the kitchen with great respect for tradition, without excluding modern techniques cooking and processing of food, paying close attention to nutritional aspects. Every day by our pastry, fresh bread is prepared with different qualities of flour. Our wine cellar, made in the former bank vault that was here before the seat, offers a careful selection of wines with more than 600 national and international labels. Our philosophy of life, prompted us to choose most of the wines produced from sustainable agriculture (organic, biodynamic, etc.). The opportunity of a proposal for a tasting by the glass in combination with the food is the opportunity to taste wines that respect the originality of the terroir, ie the taste of a particular place. To advise in the room Laura Gentleman, wife of the chef, their synergy, dining and kitchen, take you to your gastronomic journey as an indispensable ingredient of a recipe meditated.
Very pleasant meal, with pleasant service. Probably expected slightly more to be honest, as the stop in Ferrara was built around a visit to this Michelin starred restaurant. Had worse meals, but also had much better..

What a pity this restaurant is not open at lunch time. We would go back time and time again as we visit Ferrara several times a year with friends but normally just for the day. Yesterday we stayed the night and booked dinner here and we were not disappointed! Excellent food, all pasta is freshly made on the premises. A warm friendly welcome by chef Giovanni and his wife and good service even though the restaurant was full. We would highly recommend but would mention for fish lovers, there is no fish on the menu.

I loved this place. It was set in a lovely garden and The staff were friendly, helpful and patient as we spoke only English. They gave us the menu in English which we weren't expecting and they did their best to explain to us each dish. They were extremely helpful. The food was delicious. We would definitely go back to dine here and we came all the way from Australia! You will not be disappointed. If you're in Ferrara - make sure you have dinner here. It's a good idea to make a reservation as we tried on Saturday night and it was fully booked so we went on Sunday - We Loved it.

No English menu but our charming hostess went through the whole menu with us.
Lovely atmosphere and the food was amazing. The recommended wine was also perfect. A delightful lunch. Ok it's all fish, not usually my own first choice, but I really enjoyed this meal more than any other in Italy. If you like fish I can't recommend it enough
