Great breakfast! I had the oven baked Denver omelette and it was a lot to finish. Coffee and service were competent. Glad I don't live near it or I'd really put on the pounds. Thanks for the review DrCheese. Lots of folks take home half their omelettes for later. We hope our portions don't keep you away. Sorry for the late response, but thanks again!

Big Bill's New York Pizza

Met friends for dinner last night because it was conveniently located for us. Theur son had eaten here before and liked it. We ordered a large meat pizza fir 3 guys, a side of wings and a salad. The pizza was Indeed large. Although we made a valiant effort, we took some home. There was plenty of meat on it. There was enough sauce to taste, but it didn't overeelm. There is lot's if gooey cheese. I didnt try the wings, but they went quickly, so i guess they were good. The salad was big enough for one, and looked like a regular salad should.
The staff were friendly and helpful. Got refills quickly and checked in often.
The atmosphere is that of a neighborhood pizza place and bar. Nothing fancy.

The highlight dinner of our Denver visit. Really creative, beautifully presented food and attentive service. The Stone Ground Polenta soup, lamb bolognese with gnocchi and crispy potato-wrapped oysters Rockefeller were our starters. For mains we tried the pan roasted monkfish with crispy baby artichokes in a light saffron fume, duck breast with farro and chestnut risotto and poached pear, and pan roasted steelhead with orechhiette, Marcona almond and lemon caper butter. Their signature lemon merangue pie was more beautiful than delicious. It was a warm welcoming place, no rushing or pressure to eat and leave. Enjoyable and leisurely pace.

Ambli @ Holly

This was our 2nd visit to Ambli and it was even better than our first visit. Located in a strip mall, its appearance is deceiving. This is an eclectic, top notch restaurant and quite pricey but worth the expense. Our server was excellent and for our starter, we ordered the lobster shooters (excellent). Our mains were Paella (absolutely divine) and the curry sea bass (wonderful). All washed down with an excellent bottle of Hofstatter Pinot Nero. All said, a memorable evening.

Root Down

Root Down aims to connect the neighborhood to a dining experience in the same way ingredients are connected to food. There should be a seamless bond between the elements and experience, which stimulates the senses and draws people in. Root Down serves “globally influenced seasonal cuisine,” which basically means we go where inspiration leads us. We’re not tied to one style or genre—we’re hoping to create one of our own. At Root Down we pride ourselves on striving to solve the ‘Omnivore’s Dilemma.’ We have created a dining spot where all dietary needs will be accommodated, including vegetarian, vegan, raw and gluten free; also allergies or intolerances are always handled professionally by the kitchen team. Our menu has icons reflecting this philosophy, though we always request you notify your server of specific needs. We look forward to seeing you soon!

We decided on sharing small plates between three diners, one of whom had a minor food allergy and the staff went above and beyond to ensure that anything we ordered would not be an issue.

Everything was delicious, from salads to desserts, but our favorite was the Devils on Horseback, bacon wrapped almonds with a Gournay cheese fondue sauce. So delectable that we ordered a second one after we were done eating everything else! Our server was very conscientious and would note things like a dish that only had five pieces, asking if we wanted a sixth so that everything was even. Good thing we always said yes.

Interesting and varied craft cocktail list, all of which were very good.

Loved the old car garage and repurposed ambiance. We were fortunate to be seated in the little side room right behind the hostess stand, so it wasn't too crazy or noisy. Very enjoyable evening.

Tables

Reviewed By CARose - California

Excellent farm to table restaurant tucked in a residential part of town. Nice rustic yet elegant atmosphere. Open table friendly.

We started with the tuna tartare appetizer and a sweetbreads appetizer. Both were outstanding and impeccably fresh. These were perfect for 3 people to share.

Entrees were outstanding. Scallops with riso, cherry, fennel slaw. Aged ribeye cooked perfectly with polenta, goat cheese and a reduction. King salmon with fresh seasonal veg. All plates were cleaned.

They have excellent bar staff and offer artisan hand crafted cocktails. Also offer a fair selection of digestifs for after the meal.

Then came dessert. Dry cake. Imagine grocery store birthday cake that's been sitting out on the counter for 3 days. I'm really not too picky on dessert, but this had to be sent back. Dessert was a dismal finale to what was otherwise an excellent meal. Would've been 5 stars.

I will definitely come back and change rating if warranted . Highly recommend.

Sushi Den

Reviewed By Wanderdogs - Palo Alto, California

We had Sushi, sashimi and tempura here for lunch, and all were excellent - great flavor and presentation. I got jalapeño sashimi, and I think next time I would just go traditional. I think the jalapeño just hid the flavor of the fish somewhat. The rainbow rolls and the shrimp tempura rolls were great, and the mixed tempura was perfectly cooked with a light, crisp coating.
I walked though through the front main room, and the back room. Per DB Meter Pro (an app), the noise levels were 65-70 in the back, and 70-75 in front - a noticeable difference.

Marco's Coal Fired Pizzeria

Being a vegan is challenging when you are eating out. However, Marcos was very accommodating. The menu although not extensive has the option to make your own pizza. There are a few vegetable options and also an option to add vegan cheese. For those that are gluten free there is a special base for that too.

I opted for a 9 inch half half pizza. Half marinara and half with roasted peppers and mushrooms.

The pizza was tasty and fresh. The server was very kind and professional. I didn’t feel uncomfortable eating alone.

My only comment would be that perhaps they could charge half price for the toppings if you are only having half the portion. Overall not a big deal. I would happily return.

Guard and Grace

Reviewed By aztraveler62 - arizona

Group of six dined there. The happy hour crowd was still there when we arrived, so it was a bit loud. The hostess who sat us and our waiter apologized for the noise and promised that one particularly noisy table would be leaving soon. I guess it’s usually not that noisy, but we actually didn’t think it was that bad. We ordered several items and, of course, steak. We all thought it was probably the best steak we had ever had. I have a small appetite and ordered the 4 oz. I should have ordered the 8 oz.! One person in our group had the salmon and said it was the best they had ever had. As far as which cut to get, we all got different ones and no one was disappointed. Out of all the side dishes, the potatoes were the best. Yes, it’s pricey, but worth the splurge.
