Dinner was amazing, we had both chicken and swordfish. The flavor was wonderful, both dishes tender and perfectly cooked. We started with the fresh bread which had a crunchy crust and tender interior. The main courses came out and they were delicious, best swordfish I have had in 10 years. A+++ food and service. We went on Monday night, not crowded.

The Blue Oar is about happy. Connecticut River almost directly across from Goodspeed Landing. Chairs and tables of cheerful color grouped on terraces in shad and sun. A menu offering that changes with fresh food but is meticulously prepared in the style of all Simon Market offerings [with freshness, simplicity and care[ that deliver more than the average YUM quota.
Prices are reasonable. Lobster roll is delish, but so are the very interesting fish, chicken and vegetarian offerings. The veg are colorful and crisp.
Unfortunately for the waistline, the array of freshly made deserts is so appealling it takes very strong discipline to resist. So, why resist?
All sorts of non-alcoholic drinks for sale.
One may bring alcoholic drinks to consume with Blue Oar food.
Charming. Friendly. Cooked to order.
Cannot imagine anyone leaving less than hugely happy.

This was our first time here. There were lots of flavors to choose from/- can sample flavors. We both had Chocolate Lovers Chocolate- dark chocolate, chocolate chips and fudge swirl. It was truly decadent. They have a few few stools to sit on inside and a couple of chairs outside. Could use some more seating.

I used creative cakes by donna as my cake vendor for my wedding at belle terrace in avon ct. When my husband and I went to her shop in haddam for a cake tasting she presented us with delicious cakes, fillings, and designs. we chose a vanilla cake with an almond filling. We spent an hour and a half choosing the decorations for our cake and explaining our theme and colors to her. When the cake arrived on my wedding day we were in shock ... it was a plain 3 tier cake, no decorations at all, and some wilted dirty flowers as the cake topper. When we cut the cake it was a marble cake with butter cream frosting... when we tasted the cake it was try and tasted like it had freezer burn. I am a baker and cake decorator myself and everyone was expecting a great cake which i trusted donna with..so all the guests actually mentioned how awful the cake was and how we should not save the cake topper for our one year to prevent food poisoning because everyone was afraid to eat it on the day of... long story short dont leave your most special day in the hands of "CREATIVE CAKES BY DONNA"
when i called her to ask her why my cake seemed like something she had made a year ago and keep in the freezer and forgot to decorate she offered me a gift card and apologized ... i would never go back to her for anything important however i gave her the benefit of the doubt and appreciated the gesture ... well a month and a half has gone by and there is no gift card.. which is fine but really donna? its the least you could have done!!!

Red House provides an array of food and drink that keeps customers wondering what is coming next. Whether it is seasonal menus, southern bbq, hot trends we keep are customers coming by keeping our ingredients fresh.
Okay--not a Mexican place and I'm sure el perfecto is not real Spanish. This place is perfect, though! Expected a fun place for a Bloody on Sunday afternoon with passable food. As it turns out, the food is super par, so much so that I'd recommend eating here when you are not distracted by the bottomless mimosas (which are generous and delicious). The moule frites are set apart from others by their meatiness and deliciously spicy broth; the pork wings in their sweet pepper glaze are again meaty and fall off the bone; the smoke and cheese pork sandwich is one of the most delicious I've ever eaten; the homemade green goddess dressing is scrumptious. Add to the fun drinks--including a yum bacon Bloody--the hip but not hipster classic rock vibe and the truly personable, witty staff, and Red House is just as I say: perfect.

The Village Pizza Family Restaurant is one of those places that I sense could be really good or really bad. This was really good. It's a large place with friendly people. There were four of us, two wanted pizza and the others sandwiches. The menu is extensive with Greek dishes, seafood, salads, and more.
The pizza eaters selected the Mediterranean, one of the gourmet choices. My son had the Buffalo Chicken Grinder. In these parts, the submarine or hero sandwich is known as a grinder. I ordered the Italian Combo Grinder - Ham, Genoa Salami, Cappicola, Pepperoni and Cheese.
Both pizza and sandwiches require good bread - and Village Pizza delivered. The food was really good. Their fires are tasty as well. The pizza was so huge that we boxed half of it and ate it for a couple of days.

Cute place, good Chai tea latte. Open minds. You can't miss it at a major intersection. Wish it was more of a gift shop. Only a few items and shirts for sale.

I don't usually pan a business, but I see all "Very Good" and "Excellent" ratings and I wanted to give travelers a different perspective. No menus. Options are listed on a chalkboard but without prices, and not all options are available. The ambiance is "country crowded." After we ordered, a customer brought a puppy into the restaurant. The cook / waitress came out from behind the counter to pick up the puppy and give it a cuddle. Then she went back, washed her hands but did not change her apron, and prepared our meal. Call us fussy, but after that we were uncertain if we even wanted our food. Maybe this place is just too hip for us.

In the area to visit some of the attractions and asked the bartender at Goodspeed Opera House for luncheon suggestions. Recommended the Cooking Co and a visit there confirmed his choice. For either take out or eat-in, the choices are numerous. A travel buddy and I decided to share Orange Chipotle-Glazed Chicken, Salmon Cakes, and Fettucine Salad w/Gorgonzola, Basil & Walnuts. For dessert Caramel Peanut Butter Mousse. Just before we left the cashier area, we notices a salted Baguette. Of course our selections were heated to perfection and it made a great luncheon treat. We may have to visit the area again just for the food here.

We ate at La Vita Gustosa after a recent performance at the Goodspeed Opera. A few people recommended this restaurant as a casual alternative, and I was anticipating above average food. First of all, the service was extremely slow. It was a Sunday afternoon and the restaurant was far from crowded. No excuse for this level of service. I ordered pizza because I was told that it was excellent. Well, after waiting for nearly an hour.... my pizza was undercooked and greasy. I didn't send it back because I had waited long enough to eat. I ate 2 pieces, and the rest went into the garbage!! My husband had the hanger steak and his experience was more positive. He enjoy the steak and the portion size (which was on the light side) was perfect. I would think twice about returning to this restaurant.
