To be successful in the very competitive fast-food market, you have to be different. You have to do things differently from your competitors. Most important, you have to offer different items on the menu, things that prospective customers can't get anywhere else. That's the way it is at Culver's. Their butterburgers are different. Their crinkle cut fries are different. Their brand of root beer is different. Their deep fried Wisconsin cheese curds are different. Their North Atlantic cod and Northwoods walleye sandwiches are different. Most of all, their frozen custard is different, one of a kind. Get the message? After visiting friends in the south suburbs recently, we stopped at the Culver's location at 23180 South Volbrecht Road in Crete, off I-57, for a quick refresher before driving to our downtown Chicago home. I had a North Atlantic cod sandwich, light and flaky and meaty and tasty, with a glass of root beer. My wife had a Wisconsin Swiss Melt, Midwest raised beef topped with Wisconsin Swiss cheese and red onions on grilled rye bread with a chocolate milk shake. Of course, as we always do, we left with chocolate and caramel frozen custards. What a way to go.

Scrementi's Restaurant and Banquets

This time we ate in the bar at one of the booths. It was nice and gave you a welcome feeling. The atmosphere was very good, a little bit of Italy, and some cool pictures of earlier times cover the walls. The bar area is very nice a big "u" shaped bar with plenty of places to sit, and catch a game or meet some new friends. They only had two TV's at the bar, so this isn't a sports bar, it's a neighborhood establishment.

The service was very good and friendly. The food was very tasty. I had the perch and it was very tasty. They have a decent selection of white wines, and large generous classes. I got the 9oz size and it was cold and very tasty. But the food is in generous portions, so come hungry!

The owner stopped by our table and welcomed us to his restaurant. So all in all I'd say it was a very nice evening. Pricing was also very reasonable, so a nice night out doesn't have to break the bank.

What a find! This little jewel managed by a local church, reminds me of the "cool" Lincoln Park Cafes frequented by young professionals. The difference here, besides the far south suburban location, is it is full of young high school kids, college aged students, families and seniors, some stopping "on the go" clad in their serious biking paraphernalia, while some linger to read the daily newspapers, or chat with friends.
During summer evenings, local bands play on the open concrete porch/terrace. There are also meetings and pertinent social and religious topic discussions, while local artwork, oftentimes of school aged children, adorn the brick walls. Small tables, as well as overstuffed leather chairs, and the warm wooden floor set the stage for intimate conversation over terrific, reasonably priced panini, desserts, and a long list of quality teas and terrific coffees, made from beans ROASTED WEEKLY ON SITE! Gourmet coffee seekers...BEWARE! It will be impossible to leave without purchasing a bag of beans. The available selection is impressive, with something for every taste.

TIP: For a smooth, but robust coffee without a hint of bitterness or acid, try the Racing Bull Extra Bold Roast. The beans are a sensuous pleasure just to look at and smell-dark and glistening with oils, and the taste is addicting. I go to bed at night looking forward to grinding those beans for one of the best cups of coffee EVER. Also, the Sumatra, Extra Bold Roast is every bit as pleasing with less intensity, even the Decaf strikes the taste buds. All this at a very reasonable price, especially if three bags are purchased, the third one is half off. Add to this---15% discount to seniors--PRICELESS!

We stop here occasionally for a soft serve cone and I love "Blizzards". The shop is clean, service is good and the chain has good quality control.

Always enjoy this restaurant. You will leave satisfied. Homemade ketchup and jams. My favorite is the lobster roll for lunch. It is served with lettuce, tomatoes, and fries. The menu additions can be found on the chalk board above the grill. For breakfast, l enjoy the two eggs, choice of meat and type of toast. If you go on a Sunday, expect to wait. Also, you may choose to eat outside!

We've gone to this restaurant for years, but over the last year or so the crowd has gotten seedier, they've gotten slot machines now and the portions have grown increasingly small. We have been disappointed the last 2-3 times we've been there so probably won't be back for awhile.

Once upon a time , pizza was flattened dough with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. Your neighborhood joint was one of your favorite places to eat. Flash forward, pizza is now gourmet/ schmormet and both cheese or tomato sauce might be extinct. Pizza East seems to subscribe to the latter theory. The dough was good, paper thin in the center, a crispy bubble of crust on the outside. It's the toppings that fell short. Maybe I am old, but i would expect tomatoes or sauce to appear on a cheese pizza, but not here. There was also a proliferation of greens as pizza topping, not a color compatible with red and white. In any event , it is okay but the service was outstanding and if you like fancy schmancy , this is for you.
