It was my husband's birthday so we went to the Penrose Room. Since we were staying in the South Tower, it was handy. I was surprised by a number of things. First, we arrived early in order to have drinks in the bar next to the Penrose Rose. I ordered a Blood and Sand and the man delivered it but said it had been made without cherry herring since they were out. It was acceptable but I was surprised they even delivered the drink in the first place. My husband's second martini (with Chopin vodka) was definitely not right. He has sent a drink back only one other time in his entire life. He said this one tasted like gin...and the barkeep did sip it, throw it out, and make a new one which was good, by the way. On to diinner. For the price, we were both disappointed. I had read the other reviews on here and thought well....you know....some people.... But I guess I am one of those "some people" now. The amuse buches beetween courses were not particularly amusing or tasty. The menu tries too hard to be "gournet," and it is rather difficult to find something to enjoy. I did like my foie gras and lobster. Ray was terribly disappointed in the tiny (6-8 ounces max) ribeye. On the plus side, they decorated his dessert for his birthday, the music was lovely, and the service was impeccable. I am not difficult to please....but this was definitely not my premier spot of all time. We had better meals in the old Charles Court back in the day.

Food was really good, the restaurant and staff were really mellow. The food portions were just right, and it was definitely hard to choose something off the menu. Bob Marley playlist was a great way to ease into the day.

Located in a strip mall type setting in the historic section of Colorado Springs. A little hard to find, but worth the search.
We arrived near the end of the lunch service, and despite our late arrival and our group of 5, they were more than gracious and accommodating. We felt rude and were prepared to leave, but they insisted we stay and made a special setting just for us.
The lemonade with rose water was yummy. I especially loved the lamb with basmati rice. My daughter's shrimp with basmati rice was very good as well. We have been to several Ethiopian restaurants in our travels, and we always compare new experiences to our favorite Ethiopian restaurant in Washington, DC. The food at Uchenna is very, very good, but it did not have the exotic spice level nor the exotic presentation you would get from the Ethiopian restaurants in DC where you must grab food items off of a tray using the Ethiopian bread. You do not get silverware. Uchenna is a tamed down, touristy version of our favorite Ethiopian restaurant.
Lunch plates are not overwhelming. Just the right amount of food without over doing it. Prices are reasonable with most of our plates around the $13 range.
Given the fact that we were given such kind service, I do not feel comfortable offering any criticism, but just in case you experience a similar situation, please be forewarned. My daughter has always had acid reflux, and for various reasons, never finishes any meal. She tends to eat slowly and deliberately, and tends to graze throughout the day. Well, the fact that my daughter had leftovers appeared to really insult the owner. She made it a point to ask why both my wife and daughter did not finish their plates. I was rather put off trying to explain health issues to somebody I do not know, but it was equivalent to scolding your grandmother. While the owner wasn't looking I tried to stuff in the remainder of my daughter's plate so that as little as possible was left. It made for an awkward end of the meal. Our plan was to take the 2 small remainders back to our hotel for later, but by the time I bulldozed through them, it just wasn't worth it. Even the tiny bit left on the one plate seemed not to be kosher. The point being, lick your plate clean to keep her happy LOL.

A Fine French Restaurant Inspired By Classic European Bistros Combined With A World Class Bakery in Colorado Springs!
Truly remarkable!! Bravo to their hands on, friendly, hard working, dedicated owner GUS!!! Restaurants get high ratings (like Marigold has) by nurturing it well, selecting staff with skills to do their jobs there, training and being a model to them yourself in your own hard work. It is definitely noticed and we have been there many times and it still stands up to 5 star scrutiny and deserves the accolades it gets. I just went back over the past months of reviews and agreed with all the many 5 star ratings. What we find hard to understand is the few poor ratings. A few referred to how the previous owners were so friendly. We not only didn't see that, never greeted by those owners, but remember a couple times when food was not right. We actually reviewed this restaurant twice before in 2016 when we had some problems with the food which was operated by another owner who was never to be seen and food problems never rectified at all. That is not happening now. All the servers we have had in the recent visits have been top notch. No faults. So, we would think the few bad reviews have some other motive behind them. A bad review can knock a top rated restaurant down when not warranted.
Colorado Springs, by the way, is not the easiest place to find a quality restaurant with super good food, home cooked, loving preparation, and leaving with memorable tastes on your palate. Not many out there - and we go out often. We have enjoyed their Beef Bourgignon that was better than that dish we had in Dijon, France where it originated from. The lamb chops are so tasty, well cooked and presented - it rivals any other place we have had them and for a lower price than the restaurants that do occasionally offer. Veal Marsala was tender, tasty, nice flavoring. We had tried that many times with previous owner and had tough as a shoe heel that was quite unpleasant. Eating this tender veal morsel was a true delight and we told Gus our previous experience with veal there in the past and we were delighted to find it superbly done and tender. The lamb shank last night was 'off the charts' - a surprise, a real treat, getting the attention of other patrons walking past our table to ask about it, and an enormous portion that allowed a huge take out of it to return home to enjoy later. The assorted veggies was a quality tasty selection of Summer Squash, asparaGUS, red pepper, green beans. Yummy. The mashed potatoes are nicely done, reminiscent of when my mom - French - used to prepare them. I ate every bite on my plate. Thanks Marigold! Thanks again Gus! And, by the way, the fresh made French bread is the best I have ever tasted - well done!
Also, looking at some the restaurants with high ratings. some of them we do not agree with as we have not had positive experiences with them. So beware!
But, we can not express this enough - MARIGOLD, run by super GUS is the place for you to try out - and when you do, to return to again and again for a memorable night out. Mind you, this is a popular place and you really should RESERVE in advance to ensure your place there.
Lastly, Gus gave us a nice box of dessert treats to take home last time we were there. We savored them for breakfast the next day. Nice touch! Last night, he treated us to two desserts - which also got the attention of passersby going by our table. Really good stuff. Be sure to take some home if you are too full from the meal to have one on the spot. Check out the big display case as you go out and, if you don't pick one out, you will probably be dreaming about them later on. Well, when Gus gave us those treats, we really felt we were the only ones he treated so special like that. It felt that way because he is genuine. When we read other reviews, we see he has done that with other customers and that was great to see and made us have an even deeper respect for GUS in knowing how generous and caring he is about his customers satisfaction and building up the solid GOLD STAR reputation MARIGOLD CAFE and BAKERY has in our community.
We tell everyone about this place. Everyone!! Most, surprisingly are not aware of it or where it is or how to get there, But, don't let that stop you from reserving, putting it on your GPS and getting there to enjoy yourself. You will be grateful to us if you decide to do so. We take all our visiting guests there and they talk about the experience long after.
Great job - to all the friendly, hard working, professional staff and cooks there - keep it up!! Your are noticed - you are appreciated. And you are definitely recommended to many people. Dr. Richard and John - So this five start review supercedes the two given previously with the previous management. Well done Gus!

First and foremost, perfectly delicious food. Our hosts chose a tailgate mix, which was awesome that we had tacos, chips and queso, sliders, and chili at such a nice resort. It furthered my opinion that regardless of the Broadmoor's distinction, it is far from pretentious.
Second, you know you are in at a resort close to nature when a deer just walks up to the patio where you are eating. Literally, this deer was just hanging out about 5 feet away from some of my business colleagues. It wasn't until they approached her that the deer ran down the sidewalk, over the bridge to the other building and finally into the woods. Seriously, this deer knew her way around the resort!
Anyways, great food, great location, and apparently deer friendly too.

You may be put off by the parking (or lack thereof) at first, but it is worth circling the block for. There is no off-street parking at the restaurant. But find a spot and get yourself inside! Nothing fancy-schmancy, but the place is very clean, and the staff very welcoming. The entire menu is offer all of the time, and the variety is good. I had the biscuits and gravy and corned beef hash. The former was delicious, tne hash was a little too mushy for me, but it may just be me. My husband had the huevos rancheros, and was satisfied. The Chile needed to be hotter for our taste, but we are used to NM heat levels. We ordered a cinnamon roll to go (get one before they sell out for the day), and it was impressive. $8 for a cinnamon roll?!? Yes, and when you get it, you'll know why. Our family of seven was able to share it!
The only disappointment diri g the meal was the tea. Cheap, awful excuse for tea, and a single bag was brought out, along with a cup of hot water and a small kettle. I am used to tea being improperly served, but it is still a disappointment when it happens. If you don't drink tea, or if you are not particular, it won't bother you
The service was friendly, and we left full and satisfied. I would certainly go again.

This restaurant is a very quaint corner Italian bistro that has an intimate atmosphere and delicious food!
The Tortellini Carbonara was sooo good. Perfect amount of sauce and plenty to take for leftovers the next day. The Chicken Parmigiana was also a hefty portion and was delicious too.
Yum, yum... eat here!

This was my first visit as I was with Friends who recommended it and it was a convenient location for all. Obviously a very popular place with the under 35 crowd...most likely due to good food and it's urban, hipster feel being located near UCCS.
We went on a Sunday (I Do Not Recommend) which meant we had a 30 minute wait just to get seated for breakfast...NOT an exaggeration.
There are some communal tables for singles and couples if you don't mind eating with strangers at each elbow and across from you, but even those had a wait and if you wish to have a semi private conversation with your friends you just have to wait.
The service was excellent all throughout, from the polite and kind hosts, who had to deal with the throngs waiting in a highly inadequately sized waiting area, to the server who was not only thoroughly knowledgeable about the menu and ingredients...a rarity these days... but also polite, conversant AND very hospitable...also VERY rare in servers these days.
While the prices seem a little steep for breakfast/brunch...the food was well prepared and the portions sufficient enough. My Breakfast Burrito ($10.50) with a side of Biscuit & Gravy ($4.29) was pretty well prepared. The chorizo was a little over cooked and the green chili (an important thing in Colorado) lacked a bit of flavor, but neither of those ruined the meal.
I had the Ginger Splash ($5.50) to drink which I recommend as very tasty, however I think you're probably paying a little extra for the presentation rather than the carrot juice, honey lemonade & ginger ingredients. The raw sugar encrusted carrot strip garnish was a nice touch.
Sorry to sound like a stick in the mud, but all that said, value remains important and $65 (Before Tip) for 3 People for Breakfast just seems pretty outrageous to me when you can easily get out of many comparably tasty breakfast joints for $10 to $15 per person not over $20 per person without having to wait 30 minutes to get seated.
Unfortunately there's not much businesses can do when they are saddled with the ever increasing costs of doing business from the already high and ever increasing minimum wages of $7.18 for tipped and $10.20 for untipped workers, which just means price increases will continue to be passed on to the consumer.

Bringing wonderful dishes from the Mediterranean to a Colorado Springs Restaurant, Caspian Café is sure to please the palate with amazing flavors prepared by Chef Daniel White. Dishes represent the full range of the Mediterranean from French and Greek Classics such as Steak Nicoise and Gyros to Middle Eastern Dishes such as Falafel and Shish Taouk. Full service bar and private dining area available for banquets. Evening reservations recommended.
I stumbled upon this restaurant after having driven into Colorado Springs and found it to be a great find. The server was quick and efficient and new all of the specialties by memory and made a good suggestion for the prime rib that was one of their weekends best. I have the grand Marnier chocolate mousse for dessert which was very good but lacking on the Grand Marnier, and if they had a little bit more it would make this absolutely amazing. This restaurant is right off the freeway so the assessability is easy. They had a belly dancer there who you could tell loved her work and she is a true artist.
