Unfortunately this needs work! The food is if the same excellent standard of the cafe as I expect it all comes from the same kitchen. However, a few small tables scattered around a cavernous room - no atmosphere or ambience at all. The staff member stood right beside me (well inside my personal space) at the counter asking me what I wanted before I had a chance to even look. I told her I would let her know when I decided! She reluctantly left my side. I ordered 2 wraps/souvies. Both were generous in fillings but were both cold in the middle even though same staff member had tried to heat them up. The cold lamb was quite unappetising. Same served at the cafe have been hot and delicious. Coffee was good but again served lukewarm. Another staff member spent her time chatting to other patrons on personal matters. This should be good but the staffing really needs to be addressed if it is to succeed. Food and coffee need to be hot in winter and staff certainly need more training on customer service and food preparation/ service

Visited the restaurant yesterday while driving towards great ocean road had crossed Colac in between. The restaurant was good, the server was great very polite, kind ,knew his job very well. We ordered for a punjabi chicken curry , mutter ( peas)panner, breads. The food was well spiced and tasteful according to indian pallet we had specially requested them for making it spicy. Would visit someday again.

This place seems to consistently do a great fish and chips. Prices of $10-13 are fairly standard, but the portion sizes is definitely on the generous size.
They also offer the usual assortment of burgers, potato cakes, dim sims etc. And they are always busy - but they always appear happy and everyone seems to buzz under the pressure.

Good service, good food, good price. A regular of mine. Recommend for breakfast, lunch or Dinner. Can be a little loud at times, but great for a very quick service which is good for me on my lunch time rush. GREAT COFFEE.

We stopped into Colac for a quick lunch on our way down to the Great Ocean Road, and with a hankering for Asian food we came upon Lemongrass Thai, where we enjoyed a delicious selection from the special lunch menu. Between two of us, we shared a starter of Thai Fish Cakes (as good as we’ve tasted in most places), then shared a beef red curry and rice, and a chicken pad Thai. The quality of the food was very good, the servings were generous and we felt we’d had a bargain lunch when we saw the bill. The surroundings are more café than restaurant but everything is clean and tidy and the service was lovely. We’ll definitely look for a Thai lunch here again, next time we pass through Colac.

Botanic Cafe on the Lake is an all-day eatery and events space. Located on the picturesque lake at Colac, at the western end of the Gardens, it is the perfect venue to enjoy a relaxing drink on the deck, a gourmet lunch or a coffee with a selection of house made cakes and slices. The cafe is ideal for special occasion events including weddings, birthdays and corporate events and also offers a private meeting room that can cater for up to twelve.
And not just for us, the place was very busy the twice I've visited at lunchtimes.
You can eat inside or out, and the place seems to be available for functions and parties.
The food and wine are certainly delightful.
I had a lamb salad and my friend had a chicken Caesar wrap.
The rest of the food coming out of the kitchen looked great.

I took a group of 20 Secondary School Students for an end of camp celebratory dinner and Nathan (restaurant owner) certainly delivered on his promise of plenty of chips, garlic bread, pizza & soft drink. In fact there was so much food provided that it didn't all get eaten and all for the amazing price of $14 per head.
Not only that, the food was served promptly, with a smile & piping hot. Not to mention it was quality, delicious food.
l must say that over 25 years i have taken many, many groups of students for end of camp dinners, some to various La Porchetta venues around the state, but nothing compares to the fantastic & friendly experience we had here.
Nathan, l will certainly bring future groups of students to dine in at your restaurant.
Well done & thanks.
Scott Newton.

Farmer and Son is an excellent place for breakfast! Located on the main street in Colac, the menu holds no surprises but dishes up good quality food and certainly doesn't hold back on the portion sizes! Excellent coffee, too. Quirky framed prints on the walls...MoreLynn - Thank you so much for visiting us and taking the time to review the service and your experience. So glad you enjoyed your experience and would be great to see you back when you are next heading through.
