I love ice cream and this institution is particularly fun to sit at and watch people on the square as you savour flavours such as mamey or crema morisca. So nice to have your helados served to you in a glass cup by a waiter.

It is owned by a french man who wanted to set a "european" style cafe. He has excellent selection of imported cheese as well as french wine . They make their own quiche and a "Menu of the day" as well as home made Deserts. It is a cosy cafe close to the Paseo Montejo and Archeological Museum. It is a good option for vegetarians as well, as they have great salads and many will enjoy a break from the delicious, but heavy, yucatecan cuisine.
Small, with limited menu. They have homemade hotdogs, and buns that are brought in from a nearby town. The coffee is good. They are open for breakfast. Service is slow, so don't be in a hurry.

Food & Wine Magazine - 100 Restaurants in the world worth a pilgrimage 2013 Travel & Leisure Gourmet Awards 2013 - No. 1 New Restaurant in Mexico Travel & Leisure Gourmet Awards 2014 - Nominated to Best tasting menu in Mexico Travel & Leisure Gourmet Awards 2014 - Nominated to Best art of plating Forum Gastronomic Barcelona 2014 - Invited to talk about "Yucatan gastronomy" In only three years, Eduardo Rukos and Chef Pedro Evia have developed a gastronomic sanctuary in the city of Merida using local mexican ingredients mixed with modern cuisine technology in the search for a new Mexican food style.
World class dining, albeit in an oddly socialist decor. Four of us had the tasting menu of 11 courses and chose our own wines. The service was attentive, everything was clearly explained. There aren’t enough superlatives to describe the creativity and deliciousness of the food. Go to Mérida even just to experience this restaurant!
To the owners: why the stark lighting, and frankly, ugly tables? So much more could be done in that spectacular building. The menu definitely deserves a more elegant decor. But thank you for such a memorable evening.

This store does have a small dining area and makes various types of chocolate drinks which are very rich--some are spicy. The chocolate products ranging from excellent dark Mexican chocolate to soap, hand lotion, etc. that smell of chocolate would be great for the chocolate lovers.

After a few weeks in Merida the Wive was tired of Mexican food. Personally, I don't understand how that's possible but I love her, faults and all. So I picked out this place because it served Italian food. What a treat! Seating is outside, it's intimate, in full view of the kitchen and just charming. The food was really excellent, and I can be picky. The service was excellent and they had a good choice of wines. Remarkably, the cost was really cheap.

Best meals we had in Merida. It was only a block from our rented house, so we walked by many times admiring it and seeing how busy it was. I had a grilled fish and my husband had risotto with celeriac and salmon. Both dishes were superb!

This was our second visit to Ave del Paraiso. While the Thai menu is not extensive, their curries really hits the spot. The curry is light but the portion size is filling nonetheless. The owner and his wife provide great service and are extremely friendly. It’s nice to have an alternative to Mexican cuisine in Merida. Would definitely visit again on our next trip!
