Whether you're in Ceres for the cherries at Klondyke, the snow on Matroosberg or in the Koue Bokkeveld, the big-sky beauty of the Tankwa Karoo National Park and the Cederberg or a thrill-seeking day with Ceres Zipslide Adventures, make sure you stop over at Die Tolhuis Restaurant, without doubt the coziest restaurant with the best mountain views in the Ceres area. And if, like welcoming owners Reint and & Karien Grobler, you swear by the wise words of Mahatma Ghandi, "there is more to life than increasing its speed," you can prepare yourself for a mouthwatering 'kuier' that will keep you coming back for more.
There is so much within easy reach of Cape Town to discover and enjoy. We recently spent a couple of days visiting a friend in the Breede River district near Bain's Kloof. Out for a drive with her she asked if we like Roosterkoek (braaid...MoreHi Julian Wow, thanks so much for your kind words. We just love patrons that GET the tongue-in-cheekiness of what Tolhuis stands for. Hope to welcome you back soon. We will certainly forward this to Rita and her team Kind regards Reint and Karien

This was the BEST pizza we have had anywhere. The flavours were perfectly matched and balanced. Great wines, great view and excellent service. Wine tasting also very good.

The Harvest Table Bistro in the original mill room pays homage to this fertile valley’s proud fruit growing legacy. We combine fresh local produce and hearty peasant-style local dishes with influences from further afield, from Cameroon and Zimbabwe to France, Italy or Argentina, giving them a contemporary, modern twist. The Harvest Table is open daily from 08:00 to 17:00 and on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings (other arrangements can be made). Breakfast is served until 11:30. On Sundays the bistro makes way for a full-blown buffet feast with tables groaning under delectable meat dishes, loads of local vegetables, salads and puddings. So be sure to reserve your table for this one, because it is already a firm favourite amongst locals! We are closed on Mondays, but breakfast will be available for hotel guests. A special harvest dish will be served in your room on the evenings that the restaurant is closed.
We were seated at a table that was uncleared from the previous patrons. Had to ask twice to get the table cleared, even after drinks arrived.
Other uncleared tables were left with half eaten food and dirty dishes whilst patrons were trying to eat their lunch
We waited 45 minutes only to then be told they had run out of pizza dough and we would have to order something else
Called for the manager and was told I needed to go to the front desk to speak to the manager. I refused. Manager arrived after 10 minutes and whilst I was sharing my concerns and frustrations she just turned around and walked away ....
Some guests refused to use the toilets as they we so dirty
Cleanliness - NIL
Service - NIL
Food - who knows ... after almost an hour we left hungry
Manager - NIL
Would I ever stop there again ...... NEVER

Rocky River Spur in Ceres is a family-friendly restaurant that serves the best ribs, burgers & steaks. Bring along your kids for some great tasting food & dessert from our famous Spur menu!
Not my first or second time. Very poor service, drinks only. Feels like you've been forgotten. I would rather suggest another place to eat in this town, please don't go to Eden (restaurant at the nursery) they overdo their food, it's nice-ish, over priced, too rich and somewhere along the line you'd always find a hair in your food.

We were fortunate to find a table as the place was full. The breakfast was great and we were sorted for the day. The decor is interesting, but needs a sprucing up. Then again we were there for the food not the decor

Visit DEJA BREW, and conducted away in the tranquility of the scenery and Mountains, where children can play and parents can relax and enjoy the best coffee in the valley.
We stopped for breakfast on our way to Inverdoon Safari Park. Great food, we had French toast with bacon, large servings, great coffee. Staff very helpful and friendly, lovely setting, old Knicks knacks scattered through the shop. Lovely atmosphere.

Peasant-style Italian restaurant with home-made pasta, wood-fired pizza and loads of country-style hospitality
Our group of 6 thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Capish. The service was a little slow, but we only noticed because we had limited time to catch our steam train back to Cape Town. The staff took our numerous questions in their stride, and our...MoreDear Candi Thanks so much for your kind words ... and I'm terribly sorry for the slower-than-usual service. We will definitely work on that ... and we'd really love to welcome you back Warm regards Reint & Karien

Farmstyle restaurant, deli and gift shop.
On route to Kagga Kamma, we happened to stumble upon "Die Botterskorsie". Had a delicious homemade bunless burger. 100% ground beef, chargrilled and cooked to perfection. Cappuccino was a little on the weak side but then again, I'm a bit of a coffee snob. Service friendly. Worth a visit if you're in the area.
