This place is like going to Grandma's house for dinner! Good basic Texas country food like mama used to make. Wait staff is friendly and works hard to get your food to you as soon as possible even though they are REALLY busy especially during lunch. A favorite place for locals. No nonsense eatery.

After a Sunday afternoon at some property we own near the F1 track, we stumbled upon this on our way towards Bastrop. We are always looking for new places to try, especially in the middle of nowhere. This place is a perfect country restaurant bar & saloon. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I had the steak salad pictured. They have a large outdoor area with a stage for live music which I assume is THE place to be on a weekend night. Just great! Would make the trip out there again.

Great service, they are very fast a checkouts, you can find great snacks and food, there is also a lot of merchandise that is a little price but great quality. The gas is very cheap and the bathrooms are spotless. This is by far the best gas station

Paw-Paw's has something for everyone. Their specialty, delicious Fried Catfish is straight from Paw-Paw's recipe from the 1950's. It's 100% American farm raised and always Gluten Free. In fact, most of the food is created using the same recipes the owners enjoyed as kids. They also serve Fried Jumbo Shrimp, 1/2 lb Burgers, Huge Chicken Tenders and great Salads. Locals and out-of-towners alike are flocking to Downtown Bastrop to visit - Paw-Paw's Catfish House. The service is outstanding and the food even better! It's old school cooking at its best. Have you ever eaten a Deep Fried Deviled Egg? Well, once you go to Paw-Paw's, you will brag about them to your friends! Paw-Paw's serves cold beer, wine and margaritas as well. Be sure and save room for the Chocolate Chip Brownie Sundae or the Banana Pudding. They have great weekday lunch specials and are open Tuesday- Sunday. Catfish & Cold Beer, Now that's American! We'll "See ya at the House."
This is a great, casual, local eatery. Informal and all about catfish. Companion had blackened catfish and raved about it. Tasty and zesty rub perfectly cooked fish. Rice and beans sides. I had salad with catfish on top. Delicious. Added Texas beers hit the spot. Fun place to go. Lots of cross table chatter.

Stylish décor with a humdrum vibe. Loved the uncomplicated menu, friendly service and feel-good food. Chicken tacos were very tasty and well balanced and gave a great sense of what local cuisine should taste like. Buffalo wings were as good and the serving most generous.

Our server was super nice and the decor was just fine. Not luxurious, but to be fair, I didn't count on a steak place on this trip, so I was dressed WAY down (t-shirt and shorts). The experience, I should say, was great. Really enjoyed that part of it.
The steaks (ribeye and filet) were WAY undercooked. I'm not in the habit of sending stuff back to the kitchen. Just never quite works out. Meanwhile, the steaks were good, but not anything better than I could expect from somewhere like Outback or something like that.
We got a low dollar wine and no sides. We did get some dessert. Would have preferred just a big piece of cobbler smothered with ice cream. The apple tart and ice cream we got was just... well... fine.
Wouldn't do it again. Way too much cost for the food.

Wild Bubba's Wild Game Grill is a very unique burger joint. This restaurant offers burgers made from Venison, Elk, Wild Boar, Yak, Wagyu, and Kangaroo. They also offer plain ole beef. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the meats. The Kangaroo is very tasty, and I highly recommend it. Be adventurous and try an exotic meat burger.

Texas Monthly rates Maxine's one of The 40 Best Small-Town Cafes in Texas and one of the 40 Best Breakfast Places in Texas!
We loved our lunch stop here on the way to Austin. Cute little place that had a shirt 10 minute wait for our table. My husband was torn between the whole or half CFS. Boy, were we glad when the waitress talked him into the 1/2 plate. The whole chicken fried steak was the size of a dinner plate! Kids had a burger on ciabatta bread and I had half chicken sandwich with a side salad. The sweet tea was the sweetest I’ve had in a long time. Wish we had enough room for pie...next time for sure!!

We stopped here on our way to Hyatt Regency Lost Pines. So glad we did. The sliced brisket sandwich is stacked with delicious brisket! So filling! Wish they offered BBQ sauce on the side because we like ours saucy but even without, it was great!
