Very good coffee. The cake and slice options here are all interesting. Not your standard selection and some yummy homemade old favourites. We shared a fabulous, light and tangy lemon chiffon cake. Delicious. Note. On Sunday The kitchen doesn’t take lunch orders after about 2.30pm and the cafe closes at 4pm.

Castlemaine's premier restaurant and bar. Located at 26 Templeton Street, Castlemaine at the historic old fire station. Age Good Food Guide One Hat status. Efficient and Family Friendly. Outdoor and Indoor Dining. New Chefs & New Menu Open 7 Days a Week - Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.
Enjoyed a very pleasant meal here for a special occasion. Service was a little slow to start but improved markedly as the evening progressed.
We selected a range of smaller plates, mainly focused on seafood dishes of which there were some great choices. Freshly shucked oysters were great, as was tuna sashimi and prawns. Skate schnitzel also enjoyable.
The waiter sensed our palate for seafood so offered us a dish of honey bugs from WA (not on the menu); another delicious dish to round off the evening.
Also a varied wine list with some hard to find treats.
Not the cheapest meal in town but still very memorable.

Dropped by for lunch out of curiosity and met Jen the owner. After Reading the amazingly varied and extensive menus my wife and I ordered the Chicken Schnitzel with salad and chips, and a mixed berries smoothie.
Schnitzel was one of the best I've ever had - amazing crunchy coating, tender quality chicken inside - no chewy bits - and decent size. Well-thought-out summer garden salad to accompany (including beetroot), and the generous serving of chips a nice mixture of thin crunchy and long thick fries.
No apparent dressing on the salad or chips and didn't need it - just crisp fresh flavours with no obvious additive overtones. I'd probably have a slice of lemon to go with the schnitzel but didn't think to ask- the food looked great and I just wanted to start eating.
My wife wasn't that hungry (just wanted some chips) so we asked about sharing the meal - no problem. Another set of crockery/cutlery brought to the table with a smile.
The smoothie was tangy (yogurt-based?) with lots of berry content, quite thick (straw kept blocking) and oh-so-filling. The two of us couldn't finish a shared one.
Total cost $19 for a really good lunch for two.Now that's great value, and much better quality than a similar meal at your local club or RSL.

The Dove Cafe is a local institution. The old sign still reads 'The Doveton Corner Store', but locals have been calling it 'The Dove' for years. Now we do too. Sure, you can still drop in for the days newspaper, but there's plenty here for foodies too. Take a seat, indoors or outdoors. Get comfortable and enjoy a quality coffee and great feed. Now that the kitchen is being run by the team from Deborah Lea's, the scrumptious food is set to impress everyone from breakfast feasters to pie gourmands. And if you think dessert is dandy, there are plenty of tasty treats to try.
I attended a seminar near to this place, and called in for coffee prior, two days in a row. Greeted warmly, my preferences for milk, strength etc were carefully established and then remembered the next day. I was impressed ! And my coffee was perfect....MoreThanks for your review, Robyn. The Dove's staff are a smart bunch and they take great pride in their coffee-making. Your detailed feedback is sure to make them smile.

The Railway Hotel is located in the historic township of Castlemaine within the goldfields area in central Victoria. The Hotel dates back to the mid 1800's and is one of a few surviving hotels from the bustling gold boom era. The Hotel is located adjacent to the historic working railway station which services the Melbourne to Bendigo line as well at the Steam Trains from both Maldon and Melbourne. The Hotel has a real vintage feel of a bygone era incorporating a locals bar, bistro and bar and outside verandah area. The "Railway" is a welcoming and inviting place for locals and travellers with an award winning chef preparing food sourced locally and a range of local beers and ciders on tap. Our spirit wall hosts an inviting range of imported whiskey and bourbon choices and our wine range supports the vineyards of our region.
Had two meals here recently. Both were very good and reasonably priced. The staff were excellent and the playlist/music was good. Would recommend.
Only negative was on Tuesday the have two sittings for their cheaper meal options, but most of the meals have run oput by the second sitting.

we were a party of 8 fitted in with good cheer with only an hour to closing (9pm on friday night) friendly service, but we were a bit worried as the decor did not inspire great thai food, however it was amazing , the ?chef /owner came out to ask us how everything was, it was delicious with all sauces served on the side so we could add just the right amount, she even let us pay individually , a great venue for a tasty Thai treat.
