Calais /ˈkælɪs/ ( listen) is a city in Washington County, Maine, United States. As of the 2010 census, it had a population of 3,123, making Calais the third least-populous city in Maine (after Hallowell and Eastport). The city has three Canada–US border crossings (also known as ports of entry) over the St. Croix River connecting to St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada.

There wasn't much choice of lunch in Calais when we stopped at Karen's cafe after our visit to St Croix near the Canada border. The food was good and good value-- fries and sandwiches were better than my choice of chowder which was a little watery but the fish was perfect and tasty.

Crumbs is a really great place!
My mother and I went for an early lunch and we both had the most delicious sandwiches! And so many to choose from I had to take home a take-out menu so I could go over them all (while drooling of course!)
The atmosphere is cozy. Lots of different places to sit along with a lounge area with a tv and fireplace and comfy furniture to relax.
The service is excellent. Very polite and engaging with casual conversation.
And Very Clean!
Next time I will make certain to save room for their beautiful pies!

We are Canadian and took a little day trip to Calais. We normally just lunch at Subway or somewhere similar, but wanted something a little nicer. Looked up restaurants on Trip Advisor and found Yancys. Myself, my husband and two kids really enjoyed our lunch...MoreThank you for your feedback. We are so pleased to hear you enjoyed your visit with us!

Stopped in for a pit stop whilst driving for a few hours. Our first visit to a Tim Hortons. Delicious coffee, delightful sandwiches and bagels. This definitely won't be our last visit to a Tim Hortons, assuming they are all like this one.......

I Really love this place! It's casual and laid back with a beautiful aquarium in the middle of the room. While we were looking for more seafood we stumbled on this place. There is not a great selection of restaurants in Cailas so we decided to pull in! We got the special which was $8.50 for a two ingredient calzone. Each of us got something different and each of us was very pleased! The calzones are large and delicious. We also ordered a antipasto salad. It wasn't the largest that we ever had but it was delicious too. I think it was about seven or eight dollars. The food was delicious and the service was great!

We spent 2 weeks traveling Nova Scotia and PEI and encountered many places offering Lobster Rolls. Unfortunately, not all rolls are alike. One thing we learned....ask if it is chunks of real lobster or "finely chopped". You want "chunks" not finely chopped as the chopped doesn't taste anything like lobster and could be immitation crab and / or white fish.
After crossing the boarder from Canada into the US, we were hungry and used our GPS to find the nearest restaurants. That how we found this place.
We asked about their lobster rolls and the owner was very honest, saying it was chunks of lobster meat and a quarter of a pound on each 6 inch sandwich.
We each ordered one at $10.99 a piece and it was exactly as described. We got there around 11:30am and as we were eating, the place was lined up out the door. So they must be doing something right.

Stopped here after 3 weeks in Canada. I had the Tex-Mex burger and my husband had the taco salad. Both were delicious. The homemade potato chips were crisp, non-greasy and yummy. The homemade salsa is mild but very tasty. Seafood and other non-south of the border offerings are available. Bar with mixed drinks, wine, draft and bottled beers.

The outdoor sign shows it as Wickachee Dining Room but it is on the Internet as Wickachee Restaurant.
My first, and undoubtedly last, visit was horrendous. Upon walking in, we waited several minutes before being acknowledged by a waitress who told us to seat ourselves. We looked for a table throughout the entire restaurant, which was empty with the exception of two other couples, and were forced to settle for the 'least dirty' table. The same waitress came over and wiped down the table; however, left behind the silverware that had already been placed on the dirty surface. There was a cup and saucer place in front of me. The cup had a piece of lettuce crusted onto it and the saucer had coffee spots. My husband's knife had food left behind on it from a poor wash job. We both had the first and chips. The fries were heavily salted and the fish was soggy. The waitress was frantically running from table to table (mind you, there were only 3 couples in the entire restaurant) and the restaurant owner was found having a loud conversation on the phone in the dining area. Overall, it was an awful experience and a waste of time and money.

Stopped here for an early lunch and we were blown away by the swift preparation and the size of the servings. My Hunan beef was exceptional. The beef melted in your mouth and the heat of the dish was perfect. The velvety texture of my wife's chicken dish was spot on. The serving size was immense. We had two more meals from the leftovers.
