Oh! Mouettes restaurant in Calais boasts some of the very best panoramic views of the port in town. This traditional restaurant, owned by a trio of enthusiastic brothers, specialises in the freshest of wild fish and superb fruits de mer. The interior of this charming restaurant is modern and tasteful, in tones of gold and ochre with not a nautically-themed detail in sight, thank heaven. A dining room on the first floor has unbeatable views over the port, and there’s a lovely Terrace too. You might start with a little plateau of fruits de mer, then move on to something like grilled seabass fillet with béarnaise sauce, then one of the many home-made desserts, like the profiteroles. The service is utterly charming and the wine list has a nice selection of Alsatians.
Fabulous selection of fish, seafood and steaks Very fresh, superbly cooked and very well priced. I had the seafood platter with half a lobster, prawns, oysters that were amazingly fresh! Great selection of wines. Truly recommended! Will def come back next time we are in Calais

Taking the cheapest menu option & its mains & pud of the day was a good choice for me. Wonderful crab soup full of tiny local mussels; perfect gurnard (such a good fish) on a bed of the house ratatouille accompanied by delicate cauliflower in...MoreLe menu à 33€ est délicieux et ravi les papilles! Merci mille fois pour votre avis. A bientôt!

On a day-trip to Calais, with son, his wife and grand-daughter (6yrs), we had the distinct impression of a town 'closed for winter'. Seeing the sign for La Buissonnière, on looking at the outside menu Mme la Patronne welcomed us in. The restaurant is described as "Cadre 1930" in décor, which it is; small but not crowded.
A range of prix fixe table d'hôte and à la carte menus, all of beautifully presented and prepared dishes enables "fine dining on a budget", and each dish was carefully explained when our French was lacking. Our youngster was presented with a nice piece of fried 'cod-fish' and frîtes, which she thoroughly enjoyed, whilst the adults were able to enjoy an excellent gustatory experience.
One of us is dairy intolerant, and that was happily catered for.
(Should you be wondering, the appearance of "She's cake" on the menu is a French phonetic representation of "cheese-cake", apparently!)
Altogether a most agreeable time, and an excellent meal.

Au Cote d'Argent restaurant right on the water at Calais faces the seawall with fascinating views of the watery parade of sea Ferries churning in and out. The dining room puts you in the mood for excellent seafood, with varnished wood-panelled walls, marine blue carpeting and upholstery, nautical detailing and huge plate glass windows for viewing the waves. Chef Bertrand Lefebvre trained with some of Frances greatest chefs Paul Bocuse among them before opening his own restaurant here. The cuisine is simple, elegant in a selection of menus that include dishes like chicken livers sauted with mushrooms in sherry, fillet of red mullet with rice and shellfish with saffron or half lobster without shell but with coral sauce. The service is warm, the cooking refined and sophisticated, the wines are French and the experience a delight.
Often pop in for lunch when shopping in Calais. The quality has improved over the years and is now very good and not just the seafood. My Ballottine was delicious and the roast Guinea fowl (Pintade) that followed was excellent, meanwhile my wife was expressed...MoreMany thanks for your lovely comment Kind regards. Bertrand.

Histoire Ancienne restaurant in Calais is a classic bistro with 1930s art deco dcor, fresco painting that recalls Toulouse-Lautrec, Mucha prints, traditional zinc bar, tables laid in white linen, harlequin floor and open fireplace where local fish and meats are grilled. So far, so intriguing. Patrick Comte is a fourth-generation chef who trained in some of Paris most superb restaurants, including Le Crillon and Prunier, and here uses the finest local ingredients in inventive dishes like duck tartare with comfit tomatoes and parmesan shavings, grilled sea bream marinated in lemon, coriander and ginger. Order the warm chocolate cake with molten interior with pistachio cream at the beginning of your meal. Theres a proper vegetarian menu, too.
A deservedly popular restaurant in the centre of Calais, serving typically French dishes. We had winter salad and foie gras terrine followed by veal kidneys and andouillettes (chitterling sausage) with 2 glasses of white and 1/2 bot good Beaujolais (we were walking back!)Dear Robert, It is with great pleasure that we have read your post, we are happy to read that you have enjoyed our "bistro" we hope to have the pleasure of receiving you soon, kindly regards Claire COMTE

La Mer restaurant in the midst of Calais most popular tourist area wears its culinary heart right on its sleeve. This warm, traditional restaurant the sibling of La Sole Meuniere serves nothing but fish and fruits de mer, including twelve different kinds of moules. And it serves them all day long, even at four in the afternoon after you ve hit the hypermarche and require sustenance. The dcor here is comfortable and welcoming, with panelled walls, white table linens, and seafarer-costumed Waitstaff who know their crustaceans. Specialties include cassoulet de la mer, sauerkraut de la mer, fish couscous, paella. Drink house muscadet and linger over superb cooking.
We have been here a few times but this day was hot and sunny so sat outside. Service is good ( if you speak French ). The sea food is always fresh as you can see from the photos. A good first lunch for the start of our weekend away.

From the moment of arrival the service was excellent. The decor of the restaurant is attractive and modern, bathrooms upstairs very clean and tidy and as a mark of a quality restaurant offer individual towel/flannels for washing hands. The food was good overall. The amuse bouche excellent, starter good too. The main course was mixed. One of the main dishes was more like a slab of fish and not very imaginative. Though the other fish course was good. Cheese and dessert were good though servings could have been a little more generous. Overall though a good meal and very good service . Restaurant was also full and popular, though more English accents present than French.

Four of us went here after Reading the Tripadvisor reports. Glad to say we found the food was excellent, freshly prepared, well served by the attentive, knowledgeable and helpful waiter. When l'addition arrived we were surprised at how little it was.
Highly recommended. Go there and enjoy.

We had lunch here yesterday with two friends after filling the car boot with wine at Carrefour. We had booked but arrived 20 minutes before the requested time which didn't seem to cause any problem. We got a very friendly greeting and the service throughout the meal was impeccable. We all went for the €32 menu which was excellent. I had the cheese filled ravioli in mushroom soup with coppa which is an Italian Pork Salami somewhat like pancetta in taste. I then had the Limousine faux filet which was delicious and finished with a warm almond tart served with sliced fresh apple and an apple sorbet. Others had a scallop starter that looked wonderful, and plaice stuffed with langoustines or duck main course. The portion sizes are very generous and the accompaniments to the main courses were interesting and very well cooked. We look forward to our next visit
