Every time we come here, horrible service, they are out of somethin and the portions are for that of a small child. High prices and terribly blended blizzards. I can't say every employee there is horrible service but most of them yes. But I can say they do get your order right.

Met our son here for a late dinner recently and opted for the sirloin steak which was excellent. One of the few places that still serves your dinner entrée with sides, bread, salad, soup and a shrimp cocktail! We were so impressed. The service was excellent. Wine and beers were promptly refilled. Highly recommend!!!

We drove through Burns on our way across Oregon. Wanted a quick, comfortable spot for a late lunch. Several listed on Trip Advisor were closed. Hubby spotted the magic words "Pies" and "Open," so we stopped here. Small, down-home, pleasant. Good BLT, iced tea and berry pie. Without my asking, the owner even came over to refill my iced tea for the road.

Usual assortment of toppings on offer here, plus some fancier (e.g. Pesto, chicken, etc) options. Hawaiian with onions was delish (medium size is ample for two). Booth seating, NFL on big screen, some video arcade games. Good selection of beer and soft drinks. Great choice for a quick dinner in Burns.

El Toreo Mexican Restaurant

Reviewed By 523SM523 - Reno, Nevada

Burns is kind of a sad place...looking battered by their weather and difficult times. There doesn't seem to be much going on. It appears most people stop for a night on the way to somewhere. There are a handful of motels and restaurants. Nothing looked like it was thriving. So we were quite surprised when we stepped into El Toreo on a Monday night and found it PACKED. They found us a table in the back. The place was clean, a bit tattered, but clean. The food was excellent. My husband had asked them to leave the beans off of his order. It came with beans but the waitress immediately realized her mistake and took it back. It came back on a fresh plate rather than just being scraped off - which a lot of restaurants tend to do when this happens. I had a side tamale and enchilada. They came on the same plate, nicely presented with a bit of salad. All were quite tasty.

Central Pastime

As "guilty pleasures" meals go, this one was wonderful.

The vaunted steak sandwich was outstanding. Cooked the way we asked for, tender, tasty, and juicy. My wife commented upon some gristle in hers, but I found it all chewy and delightful. The fries were hot, greasy, and wonderfully decadent. They had been a skin-on potato not long before they arrived at our table. The salad (we had one with salad and one with fries) was large and good as well.

It was the kind of place that made the house merlot, Woodbridge that arrived in an old-fashioned (as in the drink) glass just fine, particularly when I realized we were paying $3 each.

Serious foodies who aren't food snobs should not miss this place.

Now in a new location at 573 West Monroe, but don't rush to find it, especially if travelling alone. The smallest pizza is Medium size (12 inches), and feeds 2 to 3 people. The environment is spartan. We were overwhelmed by the smell of raw onions - so much so that it made my wife feel that she was going to be sick, and we left without eating.

I had the truth-tip sandwich. The young lady taking the order was very professional and polite. My order came out very quickly. There could have been a little more meat and a little more sauce in the sandwich. The cheesy potatoes were really good - they just needed a little bit more salt.
