Formerly located in Buena Vista, Va. We have moved to Arcadia in Botetourt County, exit 168 off I-81. Still serving most of your favorites, we have also expanded the menu to include a few more dinner options. Serving everything from sandwiches, wraps, salads, apps, steaks, seafood and much more!
This former mom & pop cafe has been updated and improved. The menu is interesting, a bar has been added, and local beer is served. Service was prompt, cheerful and helpful. Food was delicious and fresh. Thanks for taking the time to leave such a nice review Jo. Anytime your on I-81, we hope to see you!

We are excited to share our experiences with Buchanan!! Mark and Donna has 40+ years history in the restaurant business. Together we hope to provide our little town with great food at an all-in type of price! All meals include a side and a drink. Join us for dine-in or perhaps a carry-out special will make your evening a little easier. We can't wait to serve you!
It is not my desire to trash a local business and hurt anyone's vocation. I do, however, feel that this critique of the establishment is merited.
First, our "waitress" did not greet us with a "hello" or even a smile - not much of a glance towards us even! We were the only people there at the time so we took a seat without even a simple "hello, how are you today?" Okay, maybe she had things on her mind, it's a crazy world after all.
I asked about their sides and I was told that they are all out of a can or similar container. I hate when "restaurants" do this - if I wanted to heat up a can of beans in my own microwave I'd do that at home. Anyway, maybe sides aren't their specialty. It must be tough to actually prepare something not in a can - I get it. I was however told that they cook their BBQ all night so I ordered that thinking, "oh boy, this must be their specialty, home cooked barbecue!" Turns out it was nothing more than a BBQ obviously served from a plastic tub you buy at Sam's Club. I mean it was pretty gross but I did not complain about it as that's just not something I do.
What really got me was this: I watched as our "waitress" (I use quotes because she was not a waitress as she did nothing someone in her profession would do to earn a tip or even a job title), took out the trash, went out the door, entered back in and then proceeded to carry our plates to our tables. Yuck! Again, I didn't say anything because it was only her thumbs that touched our plates, not like they touched the food or anything. So I ask for ketchup. I watch as she goes behind the counter and grabs a ketchup squeeze bottle and starts shaking it up with her finger over the open end of the bottle. I couldn't hold back any longer and I asked her out loud if she realized she had just taken out the trash without washing her hands. Well that was the end of that! No more eye contact, no more "waitress" services, no ketchup, no check, no nothing. It was as if my party did not exist. I personally refilled our drinks and like I said, it was as if we did not exist. Neither the "waitress" nor the older female who I can assume was the owner said word one to us the entire time after I asked about the trash-hands. I WOULD NOT GO BACK IF YOU PAID ME!
I HATE to leave bad reviews and like I said, I hate to think my review may hurt a business' bottom line but this experience was one of the worst I can remember.

The North Star is a wonderful find. We have had breakfast and lunch on our Sunday drives. We have not been disappointed by meals or service. The specials on Sundays include the delicious entre, beverage, and dessert. It is a lot of food for the money and so delicious.
Get off the interstate ,enjoy the countryside, and stop by the North Star Restaurant.

We had a late lunch there and ordered hamburgers. They were really tasty and tender. Their chili was very good, too. Spiced just right for me... not too much heat. Would definitely eat there again. Great 50's atmosphere throughout the store. Take a ride to Buchanan and wear your saddle oxfords.

As old as the hills . . . The Peaks of Otter have drawn settlers and travelers to the region for more than 8,000 years. The community whose vestiges remain to be explored today had its beginning in 1766 when Thomas Wood arrived from Pennsylvania. The wife of one of Wood’s descendants would open her home as the area’s first lodging for travelers in 1834. By the late 1800s, Peaks of Otter would be home to some 20 families, a school, a church, and a resort hotel. In the mid 1900s, the location was selected for special attention as the National Parks Service developed recreation and service areas along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Abbott Lake was constructed and the Peaks of Otter Lodge opened in 1964.Today, we invite you to be part of the future of this storied natural and cultural destination as it continues to attract visitors and travelers in the 21st century.
Thanksgiving is a huge deal at the Peaks of Otter. Our reservations were made in advance. Upon arrival we found mass confusion. Nobody seemed to manage the reservations in an orderly manner. Our wait was about 30 minutes as we watched people getting seated out of turn which was infuriating the dozens waiting our turn.
One young lady who was seating patrons came to our rescue. She took charge and made numerous families very happy in-spite of the continued front desk mix-up. Wished I had her name because she saved Thanksgiving for dozens today.
Our server was polite and friendly. The buffet was more than adequate with a large number of selections. In all honesty, once we were seated, everything was really pretty good.
I would rate this restaurant $$$$. Our bill exceeded $150 for 4 people which is on the high side considering it’s a buffet. Not sure if we’ll return or not.

Unfortunately, this delicatessen is of the main road in Buchanan, NY, next door to the town of Peekskill. I have been going to this Deli for mainly lunch, but frequently for breakfast as well. Food quality is excellent, with a variety of cold cut sandwiches, Pizzas and random hot plates for lunch. Specializing in Italian food, but sandwiches such as 'Dagwood' are on the menu as well. Meats and cheeses are always name brand and fresh. Weekly specials also include roast beef which I have found to be just right for my taste, rare on rye bread with salt and pepper. I have never been to the Palace Deli in the evening, but have frequented it for breakfast. Nothing fancy, but you can have eggs and bacon on a roll; great with the eggs a little runny for me. Prices are always reasonable and service is quick. Definitely one of my favorite Delicatessen in this area. I visit it at least once or twice a day when I have business in Peekskill.

Staff is nice, just a place to get drunk on canned beer and shots. Our group of guys had a bite to eat and head for the hills. Biker bar atmosphere. If you want a adult beverage with a rough crowd, this is your place. Everyone was nice and friendly. They appeared to be a few drinks in when we arrived.

This place has changed over past five years miss all the old pictures. Nice store and burger king, nothing fancy but you can eat here and get gas so you can get on your way home. While here you can visit swinging bridge and walk across river to see other side.

If you're traveling south on I-81 there is no place as easy to access as the Subway in Buchanan. It is literally right off the access ramp, behind the Citgo station. The service at this Subway was quick and the prices were very affordable. The food was as fine as you would expect from a Subway. There is a single unisex bathroom. If we get back on this road, we'll stop again.
