At the mouth of the Rio Grande delta and the southernmost tip of Texas, Brownsville enjoys the perfect combination of casual southwestern charm and bicultural diversity. Its position just across the international pedestrian bridge from Matamoros makes it a good base for day trips to Mexico, or for just enjoying the Tex-Mex culture of south Texas. Warm Gulf breezes, blooming bougainvilleas, gently waving palms, soft white sands and friendly, diverse locals make this city a semi-tropical paradise.

THis relatively small eatery is near the intersection of Boca Chica and Hwy 83 in Brownsville. My wife had a 1/2 portion of the chicken cheese nachos-big enough for 2 people.I had a chicken club sandwich on rye bread that was massive-again big enough for both of us.There were fries and really good onion rings.Service was fast and efficient and food quality was exceptional. This place opened in 1934 and has another location in Harlingen as well.Highly recommended!

Legendary Food, Legendary Service
I sat at the bar. I ordered 3 drinks. Each were AWFUL. The bartender could not make a drink worth anything. Cute was the only thing there. I was told at first it was the 7-up. I ordered the last drink with cranberry juice. Still bad. I see why the locals drank beer only. No rolls given or offered.

We enjoyed the fried shrimp and fish served with deliciously seasoned French fries. It was more than we could eat when paired with the shrimp bisque. As winter Texans, hope we can get back this way before we head north in the Spring. Check it...MoreWelcome winter Texans. We are very please and honored to serve you at Dirty Al's. We look forward to serving you again soon.

Well...this little place is a gem. I must explain my average rating though. I've been in many fine dining establishments around the world and while this may be five stars in Brownsville, it's average in the big scheme of things.
The service was good. The team was attentive and took great care of our large group. I started with crusted brie cheese salad. That was excellent. My main course was scallops with mangos and bacon. It sounded great on the menu but I was underwhelmed. I had chocolate cake for dessert. I don't typically like chocolate cake but they have a great twist on that dessert.
I think it's certainly worth a try if you're ever in Brownsville. Oh...it's very expensive too.

"This upscale ranch-style restaurant serves Argentinean cuisine with its european influence on display. Our entree of Angus beef melted in our mouth. Delicious Clericot added the right touch for a wonderful continental inspired evening." - Texas Monthly
I love this restaurant and I love steak. I'm a simple salt and pepper seasoning guy so this unseasoned perfectly cooked steak is great. The mushroom appetizers were perfect. Great ambiance.

Staff was very nice offering to try the different BBQ meats before deciding.
Went with the moist brisket (good) and the baby ribs (OK, but below expectations), along with coleslaw (good!) and cream corn (very sweet).
The atmosphere was nice, compared to some really fast-food style BBQ places. But we had much better BBQ in Texas.

Our family from Brownsville took us here while we were visiting on vacation. Prices are very reasonable. We were a party of around of twelve or so and service was good. I ordered a chicken quesadilla, it was huge and tasty. Desert is even included with the meals. Everyone enjoyed their dinners and would gladly come back again.

At home and on trips/vacations we eat at a Chick-fill-A fairly often. This Chick-fill-A is pretty much what we expected. Good food and good service. The staff were friendly and helpful. We were well pleased.

The best place in Brownsville, hand down, for tacos! We visit every time we're in town.
Everything is delicious! I definitely recommend the tacos the trompo and the charro beans. Fast and friendly service, too!
Quick tip: The tacos are tiny so maybe think about ordering one or two extra just in case.
