I had been going to the Whistling Bird for many years and was delighted when they reopened. Lately, however, the quality of the food has gotten worse. What used to taste so fresh is now bland and "canned" and pre-packaged tasting. I realize it is difficult to get fresh produce in the winter months but there's got to be a better alternative to what is being served. Their prices have also gone up a lot - especially for the quality of the food. I don't mind paying $30 for an entree but it better be worth it. Our last visit (with 3 people) cost $120. It was not worth that much money for the meal we had - the steak was tough, the calamari was undercooked and greasy, the jerk chicken was good but a little dry. There is also an issue with consistency. I ordered the rasta pasta(mild) last spring and it was not too spicy. The next time I ordered it medium and it was so hot I couldn't eat it not could anyone else in our party.
I want this place to succeed - this area needs a good restaurant! But, I will think twice about going here again.

Settle in for the night with our inspired eats, eclectic wines and hand-crafted cocktails.... Welcome to BoomTown Woodfire. Relax.... You've arrived
Been there four or five times however the last time was a little off.
Ribs had been good but the last time mediocre. Steak just fair. Ordered medium rare to rare and it was overcooked. Will return however I'm anxious for their new brewery to open in Hobbing.

We stopped for a bite on our way to Birch Lake. We had the pleasure of being around a group celebrating their 40th high school reunion it was loud and people watching was awesome. Anyway. We ate the all meat pizza. The toppings were piled on and yummy. I didn't love the pre-made crust but that's just me. It was good. The beer was cold. Life is good.
I don't know why we had a waitress yet we had to order at a window and pay for food there? She brought us beers and was nice. Maybe I needed to ask what the set up is. No biggie. Stop there and you'll get a good pizza.

We took the 20 minute drive from Virginia to have a New Year's Eve dinner here after seeing their menu on Facebook. We were a bit early for our reservation, so we enjoyed a drink at the bar prior to being seated. Karla greeted us at the bar promptly and wished us a Happy New Year! Once seated in the dining area we were presented with the menu, which included the dinner specials. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms as our appetizer--they were delicious! Wild rice and a blend of mild cheeses....what's not to love? For dinner, we had the prime rib with shrimp/scallops. A delicious au jus accompanied the cooked to perfection prime rib. Our shrimp and scallops were tender and flavorful--served with clarified butter, it topped the meal off. Simple, yet delectable. Service was outstanding! Will be back sooner than later!

The Sawmill Saloon has been serving the best food and drinks in the Virginia area for more than 30 years. Over time, we have perfected a consistent approach to customer service that offers our patrons great value for money in a comfortable yet fun atmosphere. Next time you're near Virginia, give us a holler.
Very disappointed that $4.00 vodka drink cost 50 cents more with mix, upset that offered ranch dressing and charged 50 cents more, upset that lobster soup cost $2.00 more for fake lobster. Raise your prices and stop the upcharges.

We came here over the 4th of July weekend and were really glad we did. On the recommendation of the bar tender, we tried the "Rudy's special." It was one of the best pizzas we've had anywhere in the country.
Super friendly bar-tender. Owner came over to say "hi." Terrific example of why people still love small towns. This is a great place to visit and their food is very good and very reasonable.

We got there early 3:30 before the rush. There were a couple of tables taken otherwise pretty empty, but like I said we went early. We were seated in a booth.Given menus. An left alone for over 35 minutes while people started coming in ,and being served while we just sat there. My husband went to the bar and got himself a beer, bartender was coughing in her hand giving change a n d handling drinks. My husband was a almost done with his beer, before walking up to hostess to tell her . No one had awaited on us,it took another 10 minutes before a rude server took our order.Fish dinner came with coleslaw and a choice of soup, salad or onion rings,or chi p s.Bake potato was 1.00 more, fish was 11.99.My husband said his fish was good, but mine was rather greasy. Left a bad taste. Now we had to wait for our bill ,no one came, had to walk up to hostess station to make payment.Again had to wait for our server, who acted rushed and rude. We will not be back.Never once heard an apology or a thank you,or a thank you come again. This place needs better trained staff.

After a round of golf we were ready for some good food. This restaurant, feeling quite new, didn't disappoint. They had a nice and varied menu, but all of us opted for one of the night's specials. It was Southern Fried Chicken that was tasty, and the portions were large. They advertised a lot of specials, and we were tempted to try some weekend to find out the details of the Chateaubriand.
Service was prompt and friendly with frequent checks to see how were we doing. We plan to return for more golf, and we'll make the Burnt Onion part of that experience. By the way, three of the four of us opted for the Burnt Onion soup and it was a delicious starter.
