We stopped by here last year too after cutting down our Christmas tree at Wyckoff tree farm around the corner in Belvidere.
Typical small town eatery... with friendly service and a good selection of very good food... and some GREAT chili ! I understand they smoke their own pork and brisket... but did not partake of those treats today.
Can't remember what we had last year, but today my wife had their Tuscan Grill (chicken breast, roasted peppers, diced tomatoes, provolone cheese with balsamic dressing on a good size foccacia bun. Served with a side salad.
I had a BBQ jack burger... served with a couple of onion rings and bbq sauce... Quite good served just the way I like it. (M/R) Oh... and an excellent cup of their chili that had a really nice bite to it.
Thisilldous only serves breakfast and lunch and seems to do a pretty brisk business. I'm not at all surprised. If we come back this way, we'll be stopping in again. Their website has a little video that says they are rated number one in NJ. They don't say if they're the #1 restaurant, or cafe, or diner... but regardless... I don't doubt it.

Finally stopped here after living in eastern PA for 17 years. It has been a place that people have raved about, but it did not deliver to my expectations. Number one, they are cash only, without an atm on site. Since it's in the middle of nowhere, this is incredibly inconvenient. Second, the indoor eating area is unheated, or barely heated, which makes eating in the winter months uncomfortable.
Next, the hot dogs aren't that impressive... as I have had better "dirty water dogs" in NYC or Chicago. The dogs are smallish, and the buns are pretty bland. They only offer four toppings: onion, mustard, ketchup, or pickle relish. I will say that the fries were tasty, and one of the plentiful portions given. The birch beer was good too!

Just an average little deli downtown. Not bad just the usual food fare. They have some groceries and the like. We get takeout from there once or twice a month when I don't feel like cooking.

My husband and I visited her for his birthday dinner. Having lived in Germany for a year, he really wanted German food for his birthday dinner. His birthday happened to be the day before Thanksgiving this year. I called ahead for reservations. The owner answered...MoreThank you for visiting us ! We will be closed for our winter vacation from January 23, 2017, and re-open for Valentine's Weekend on Saturday February 11, 2017. Stop by our website for specials.... Hope to see you back soon !!!

Very obviously 90% of the clientele were locals, everybody on a first name basis. They treated us the same way, no tables available on a Saturday evening so we sat at the very comfortable bar on nice stools and made friends. Several very good brews, Jersey Girl IPA was Outstanding. Wife had the london broil, she should have had a real steak. I had the 12oz. NY Strip and was very well satisfied. I wanted rare, I got rare with a perfect char on both top and bottom. The home made chicken noodle soup...a MUST TRY! My compliments to the chef. We are super seniors and the bar staff had fun kidding with us. Moderate prices, better than average food in a dark, pubstyle atmosphere. Their motto is "Copious Palatible Victuals"

We stopped at this quaint little place for lunch on the way to the Lakota Wolf Preserve on a Saturday afternoon. We all ordered burgers, shakes, and fries. It was surprisingly delicious!! The burger meat is grass fed quality meat and was cooked perfectly. The shakes were some of the best we've had actually. We actually stopped a second time on the way home to try other flavor shakes! (They had 50 flavors)
Next time we are back in the area we will definitely stop there. The staff was sweet and the place was immaculate. There are tables inside and outside. There menu had lots of options too- hotdogs, chicken, clam strips, etc. A must try when in the area!! Great job to the owners and staff.

They cook their hot dogs in peanut oil so beware allergic people.
This is a destination location for many. Let's go for a ride to hot dog Johnny's... The birch beer is great, buttermilk if your into it but I don't like the hot dogs.
They are busy all the time so someone dies like it.

We LOVED this restaurant!
First the story-it was a long abandoned candy store now remodeled into a small cozy restaurant. The decor ties the old Art Deco furniture, soda syrup bottles and candy jars with modern colors, vintage photos and local art work. Vintage movies showing on a high screen added a nice touch. You can feel the history of the building and almost hear the whispers of past customers sitting at the sofa counter. It's like stepping back in time but in a cool way! I can't remember when I've enjoyed being in a space so much!
Our dinner was delicious. The soup was rich and tasty and the flat bread was crunchy and flavorful. Ingredients tasted fresh. We also had the lobster ravioli which was very, very rich and buttery. The pasta was perfectly al dente.
We will most definitely go back and bring friends for the fun conversational atmosphere. This would also be a fun place to take a date. It's filled with conversation pieces and they even sell nostalgia candy.
I want to sincerely thank the owners for creating a restaurant that is fun and interesting but with good food. It's hard to find both these days and you nailed it. I also appreciate that you preserved the history of the space in such a fun and unique way.
Great, just great!
