On our tour around the "thumb" we found ourselves in Bad Axe looking for a place to eat lunch before heading to a local winery. We went in one place and walked out. It just didn't appeal to us. We went into the Coffee Cup Plus and were greeted by the waitress and the cook. We chose the right place! We had a chicken salad sandwich which came with chips and a fish sandwich special that came with fries. Both very good.
The people were so friendly and nice that they didn't tell us we walked in about 20 minutes before closing time. They are open for breakfast (served all day) and lunch only and we were there about 2:30. We felt bad when we realized it and apologized, but they said not to worry; they were happy to have us. That is real hometown service.

After driving up north of the Metro Detroit area, we were pleasantly surprised to find Rachel's Restaurant. Clean and inviting on the inside, and quaint and cozy on the outdoor patio. My sisters and I all had the salmon chowder (a tomato based broth) that was scrumptious. We then had Wall Eye and White fish dinners that were appetizingly presented and very tasty. The service was great and was complimented by a visit from Rachel herself. Our delicious meal was worth the trip. (tip: they close at 9 pm)

Growing up I loved the fish frys offered in Mid-Michigan. On a trip back to Bad Axe, Michigan, I ask the hotel clerk for a restaurent recommendation for a good fish fry and she said to check the Verona Tavern. Judging by the crowded parking lot I knew the clerk was right. I had the lake perch dinner with handcut fries and it was delicious. Although extremely busy, the staff was on top of their game and service was great. Food is reasonably priced. If I lived in this area, this would be a hands-down favorite!!

We really enjoyed the food we ordered. The kids were super hungry and their go to food chicken tenders and grilled cheese put smiles on their faces.
There is a fuze ball table they played while we waited for our food.
We were too full to enjoy the yogurt they had, but it looked pretty good.

Was diappointed they were closed Memorial Day in Bad Axe and the next day in Port Austin. They do not have a web site listing their hours.
Stopped Wednsday about 10 AM in Bad Axe. They do not list the prices of their baked goods. That is annoying. They were out of many donuts. We bought a few. They were good, but not extraordinary. Would not stop there again.

A small group of us came here before our prom and we were greatly disappointed. It started when we walked in the door and they told us that they didn't have our reservation when we called and verified it. No worries though because the place was practically empty and it was 6 o'clock on a Saturday evening. I got chicken strips as did most of the other girls and they were extremely gross. Later that night the one girl even got very sick and had to sit out on all the prom night fun. That was just the start though. It was a bunch of little things that all added up. The waitress seemed very skittish all evening. I had ordered French fries which were not brought until the end of my meal. Then when our drinks were brought out the waitress spilled them and never cleaned it up or so much as apologize and brought us more napkins to clean it up ourselves. Then we left and got down the road a way when one of the girls realized she had forgotten her corsage on the table. We called right away and politely had asked if they had found it on the table. The guy on the phone was very rude and they had said it wasn't there, but we know she left it. I'm very thankful the munchie food at prom was good because I was starving. I would never go back here again.

I love the value of the Quart (or pint) Chop Suey. Our favorites are the Chicken and Beef Subgum - Prefer Chicken as it seems less salty. We also get an egg roll on the side - yum! We eat off of it for 3 days. They raised prices quite a bit about a year or two ago :-( I also wish they had more meat in them and less celery (especially after the price increase). It would be 5 stars if that was the case.
