Nice surroundings, friendly staff who explain what to do with the various dishes. Soba noodles and soup were very tasty. Duck slides with spicy sauce were expensive but tasty. Tried two kinds of sake, our favourite was the first on the menu which went very well with the noodles. Tried soba dumplings, tried dumplings were fine, other dumplings were rather tasteless.

I couldn't resist another visit to this Japanese Sweet Shop, their Macha and Dango plate is to die for. This place specialises in Green Tea flavoured ice creams and Deserts but also have other choices. They have a full range of boxed sweets in Western and Japanese style sweets, do try their green tea flavoured soft ice creams if not try their Mont Blanc inspired ice cream, a mixture of chestnut puree and ice cream -divine!

木曜日の12時30分頃に行きました。土日の混雑とは違い待ち時間なしです。
店内は木のテーブルで庭園を眺めながら食事できます。駐車場は10台ほど停めれます。

We had soba (buckwheat) noodles for lunch in Daiou Wasabi Restaurant as a part of a tour. er. the managWe were welcomed at the door by The dishes were served quickly, and they were very tasty. After lunch we viewed the fields where wasabi was being grown in clear mountain water. We are lovers of good wasabi, so we were delighted with the restaurant, the wasabi fields, and the nearby gift shop.

There is Restaurant Azusagawa at the Azusagawa Service Area. Had a opportunity to dine here on our way back to Tokyo from Hakuba. Been a muslim, it is rather quite difficult to find a place with halal meal but the Restaurant Azusagawa manage to provide a halal meal (prearranged by our marvellous tour person), and it was an authentic japanese meal (forget what it was called, something rice with fish). The manager went extra mile by even provided us a place to pray/solat. Really appreciated their hospitality and courtesy.

Visited many times to have mostly Ramen which is named "Toto Ramen", the soup made by fish. Pretty simple but great tastes. Other meals curry, fried pork, rice omelet also nice. The best recommended in this area.

Oyaki is a local specialty of Nagano prefecture. It is a buckwheat dumpling/bun stuffed with various ingredients, mostly vegetable inside that is grilled. It is similar in a way to a Chinese pork bun, but still quite different.
You can grill these onsite over a charcoal grill in the store. There is a huge selection of oyaki that you can choose from, but all the listings were in Japanese. I think we sampled the mushroom, bamboo, curry potato, and pork varieties.
It is a fantastic authentic experience and each oyaki was cheap at around 200 yen each. It was a great stop for a quick lunch.
You can help yourself to tea and pickles. The store sold lots of other food souvenir items.
We visited via a rental car so I don't know how easy or difficult it would be to get here via public transportation.

Very popular by local people who make a line and wait for at lunch time. The menu is quite simple only soba serves, no rice meals. Here Azumino has many soba restaurants which are very expensive even just a small meals. Kurumaya is cheap and big amounts with great templa, highly recommended!
