So no children about and what better thing to do than treat yourself? So we did and it was great. A simple Sunday Roast is sublime - tender beef, beautiful vegetables - beetroot, carrots with fennel as well as roasties, yorkshires and horseadish. The pork...MoreI'm so glad you enjoyed your visit to us, we love the roast beef too! Hope to see you again soon.

The family and I have been visiting Lyme Regis from Taunton weekly for years and last night decided to break track for the first time and stop and eat in Axminster. Having looked at Trip Advisor decided on an Indian meal at the 'Cinnamons' restaurant. It was early on a Monday evening so we were the first to be shown to a table of our choosing by a very friendly young staff member. Being a creature of habit I tend to have the same dishes when eating at Indian restaurants and have to say that the chicken madras I ordered was absolutely delicious (and a good sized portion as well!) My wife and daughter were equally happy with their meals as well. The proprietor was on hand and was very attentive without being over the top. In summary I wish we had eaten here years ago and would recommend that people holidaying in Lyme take the ten minutes drive to Axminster to try this place.. in my opinion it is well worth it. We will certainly be visiting again soon!

The Coffee Shop is located within Axminster's only department store. It offers morning coffee, light lunches including gluten free, afternoon tea and weekly specials. All items on the menu are locally sourced and wherever possible home-made. The Coffee Shop provides traditional waiting service.
What have they done to our favourite lunching spot? All the old fashion service and conversation replaced by a self-service attempt to mirror Costa down the road. Result, an empty cafe. How very sad. You certainly didn't ask the locals before making these changes.

16th Century Coaching Inn commands an enviable position, conveniently situated on the main A35 where Devon & Dorset meet, between the bustling market town of Axminster, and the beautiful seaside town of Lyme Regis, the gateway to the Jurassic Coast.

Was treated to the Sunday lunch experience by my partner. Was a great experience. Started off transported from the car park to the venue by tractor. Starting in the Yurt with Apple Cider Brandy (so good a bottle had to come home) and canapes. Time to walk around the rounds before lunch. Head chef explained all the courses and we had opportunity to go and see them at work in the kitchen. Food so flavoursome. Made vegetables tasty! No problems catering for gluten free. If you get an opportunity it is a must try!

I really do want to like this place as there is a great shortage of “gastro” pubs in the area but sadly having eaten there twice I have to say that I will never eat there again.
They say they are a family run business but even though the waiting staff are good there is no welcoming feeling from “ the family” you would expect from their advertising. They also don’t like children and seem to just tolerate dogs
Hint…on a quiet service make yourself known ‘family” a few friendly words can go a very long way to getting repeat business even when the food goes wrong
That aside what about the food? On both occasions the starters have been good, altho usually a bit on the small and expensive side. The mains on both occasions have let them down badly
I am still thinking about the awful main course I recently had
“Slow cooked aubergine, fried hen’s egg, sweet potato hash, homemade tomato ketchup and pine nuts"
Sounded quite nice I thought but was possibly the most tasteless dish I have ever paid for!
If I had somehow prepared this at home I would have thrown away after a few mouthfuls (or added some texture and flavour to it)
but after paying £14 and being starving I managed most of it
I have no recollection of any pine nuts on the plate and the 2 small blobs of ketchup wasn't anywhere near enough to rescue this dish. My husband also ordered the dish so 2 very disappointed diners
Friends fish and chips was ok but chicken dish slightly pink inside had to be sent backed
Sorry Thytherleigh we wont be back

Vintage inspired cafe serving teas, coffees, homemade lunches, scones, cakes and shakes! Relax with a cold drink in our sun-trap courtyard or sit inside foot tapping to rock'n roll! Our new American Diner bar is perfect for the kids to have their milkshakes. Dogs are welcome.
Gem of a little cafe tucked away off the high street, went there between Christmas and New Year for tea and cake. Child friendly. Fab 1950s/vintage decor, friendly staff great atmosphere. Take a look round the antique/fossil shop on way out. Would recommend.
