We thoroughly enjoyed this lovely local restaurant set in the square behind the windmills. The food was traditional Greek, full of flavor and very reasonable priced. The local white wine was also surprisingly good.
A highlight of the evening was the wonderful waitress who was full of energy and never seemed to loose her composure.
It was well worth the walk up from our accommodation in Pera Gialis.

If you feel like isolating your from the crowd and also want to taste some amazing homemade sweets that's the place to be. Lovely spot with great view of the endless blue waters and a menu full of choices; desserts, coffees, beverages, drinks and I think even some snacks. Nicely maintained place with good service

Family tavern that goes on from generation to generation. Our reputation preceded us, as we offer the best fish and traditional dishes, only local meat and vegetables from our own production. The traditional family tavern "Gerani" will pleasantly surprise you with delicious, pure, home-cooked meals and fresh fish. Sun, sea, a warm smile, a friendly hug and family warmth will make your vacation with us memorable and delicious, siting by the sea with friends all day. Gerani is the perfect place to eat. We are sure you will have a great time and will visit us again and again. We look forward to serving you
Amazing traditional homemade food and fresh fish. The service is really good, pleasant and happy people in a nice environment by the sea! Definitely the best restaurant on the island that has been running for so many years keeping the quality high and the prices low!

No URL of it's own but can be found in Lonely Planet guide to Greek Island, and Rough Guide to the Greek Islands.
Wonderful busy restaurant in the Chora near the Plateau strip. Lovely outdoor vibe with authentic Greek cuisine - young friendly staff with great English !

Since 1996 captain Michalis' restaurant "Almira" located at the dock of Maltezana in Astipalea, overlooking the area's natural port, offers fresh fish and traditional Astipalean flavours.Every summer the captain tends his garden with care and adds new dishes to the menu, some of which have become classics in Astipalea such as: Sailorman's appetizerFisherman's octopusAstipalean dakos with chlori. Mini shrimps from Simi's island. We invite you to taste our dishes and enjoy the beautiful Astipalean landscape!
The restaurant is an excellent choice from every aspect!
It has very peculiar and distinctive plates, that are delicious!
The service is ok, I guess in a place like that you wouldn't concern about the time, would you?
Maybe the prices were a bit high, but I guess that's due to the originality of the menu..
The only downside was that.. we saved it for our last day in the island and we couldn't have the chance to visit it again!
It's a real bummer that it isn't in the first places for eating in Astypalaia..

What can I say! This place is a must! Maria's and Michalis' cuisine and hospitality is outstanding. Fresh produce and awesome service which is the best in the island. Maria always comes to your table to discuss the daily options and provide a customize servirse. Local flavors at their best! But always try the fresh fish options.
The place is situated just in front of the waves and best suited for lunch and dinner!

bad quality, bad service, food below average, they served badly. Deepfrozen fish as fresh and they insisted it was fresh with attitude. do not visit.

We went there twice with a large group so tasted most of what was on offer- and it's all very good. I loved the revidokeftedes- sort of like a Greek version of falafel, and the seafood pasta with shrimp and spicy red sauce. Friendly service too- would go again!

We visted twice during our week stay in Astypalaia.Friendly and really pampering staff , great variety of menu items with really good taste. Both nights there was a smal band of three young musicians (2 guys and a lady) singing Greek songs so the atmosphere was really fun with guests dancing and anjoying their wine and raki-shots.

With whimsical tables cascading down the side of the cliff this unique restaurant is worth a visit just for its unbelievable vista and position. But the food is the hero with a large menu and some of the freshest fish on the island cooked to perfection.
We visited a few years ago and the meal was lovely however this year the food was exceptional - well done Akti !
My only criticism is that the the cliff tables have specific seatings and we chose an early dinner time. We felt the food was rushed and everything came out in one hit rather than savouring the moment with the starters. The staff were well trained and delightful !
