finally got a chance to eat the the Alley Restaurant located in the Aiea Bowl. the restaurant has various seatings- booths and tables and chairs; you can also eat in the bowling area and they do takeout.
they are known for their desserts, chicken plate and oxtail soup. prices were a bit higher for plate lunches than most places but their portions are huge (got 3 meals out of it) so the price was worth it. I had the mixed plate of chicken and kalbi for $17. friends had a salmon salad and portabello sandwich which they enjoyed.
the restaurant is famous for their lemon crunch cake which we all enjoyed. the strawberry crunch cake was just as delicious. the strawberry flavor came out more than the lemon crunch one which is really light.
thought it was weird that they ran out of burgers at 11 am.
your whole party needs to be present before they seat you. parking is free in the shopping center where they are located.

We ordered take out from Palazzo's (they offer a 20% discount for take out orders).
We would absolutely come back again and dine inside as well.
The customer service was excellent.
The take out was packaged perfectly! Impressive.
We ordered the chicken Parmesan and the homemade raviolis, they came with fresh Italian bread that arrived with a crispy exterior and a pad of butter along with cutlery and a container of cheese to sprinkle on our order...the food was wrapped tightly, no spills.
The red sauce was delicious, the chicken was moist.
The man who answered the phone and took payment in person was very friendly.

On a trip back to Hawaii, one place I had to eat at was Anna Miller’s. They have the best Portuguese soup and coconut cream pie. The pie is just like my mom use to make. We asked for 2 pieces of pie to go, but our server convinced us to buy a whole pie for only a few dollars more. Seeing we still had a week left on island we did. Food is always very good here and open 24 hours. Great dining for families.

I read other reviews about the building. Nothing fancy. We love these types of places. Unique items for breakfast. My husband LOVES bananas so the Banana French Toast. I had Da Elvis Pancakes...excellent but only ate half because it was sooo sweet and that is saying a lot from me. My husband’s only complaint was “it’s a little greasy”. Would recommend if you are in the area going to Pearl Harbor.

Looking for "something different" while in Honolulu, we were directed to a southern style restaurant called Dixie Grill.
Using the GPS was the first of our bane of this endeavor. Three roads merge together within fifty feet of the entrance, and with traffic cones and unlit streets we saw the building, but missed the turn into the parking lot.
Having seen the building and actually being so close to it, we attempted to go around the block to get into parking lot, yet it took many turns, even jumping back into highway, until after navigating the traffic paving equipment and resulting diversion cones we made it.
Parking lot was full (it was 630 PM on Friday, so that was to be expected), we had to circle it several times.before someone pulled out and we found the empty stall.
A group of men were standing in the entry way smoking, so after passing through a blue haze of smoke we entered the building. The hostess said all seats were taken and would we want to come back or just wait 15-20 minutes. I asked about sitting at the bar until a table opened and she said those seats to were full.
We chanced on a stack of chairs lining a wall, put them together and waited, while looking around and catching the spirit of the place. It had the ambiance of a juke house in Mississippi, maybe a dive in Montana or roadhouse in Indiana - definitely nothing of hula girls or Mai Tais directly from a pineapple. A hole in the roof looked as if chopped in with a fire ax, different painted boards surrounded the room.
Waitstaff was wearing Dixies t-shirts which said on a back - We Are Always Smoking Something. In any meaning of this.... did seem exactly right!
A TV was on showing a Chicago Cubs game, but no one was watching. Now and then the din would lower and somewhere in the room music was playing. Everyone was talking and laughing - the TV may not had the sound on and the music was to no ones liking as it tried to filter through to the customers, so they were of no value to any customer.
We were seated at a tiny two person table and given free popcorn.
When it was time to order drinks, we wanted to take advantage of generous Happy Hour offer - a 64oz mug of domestic beer for $5. Alas, the disappointment. Happy Hour was from 3 to 7pm, and even though we arrived at 630, by the time we got to placing orders, it was already few minutes after 7. Our waitress did express regret for it, but to make a logical exception to the rules was not up to her or any human being - apparently, the computer stop offering the Happy Hour prices even 5 minutes before the deadline time. Oh well... we settled on Lynchburg lemonade (in line with the Southern ambiance, it came in a Mason jar and was quite good) and giant 64oz mug of Coors Light at the regular price.
One of us ordered the Carolina Killer Cobb Salad - a generous portion of chopped lettuce, hard boiled eggs, corn, avocado and lump crab meat with blue cheese crumbs and dressing. It was filling as meal, yet in real life did lack a flavor, suggested in description. Was it really crab or maybe a chicken? Had to take Dixie's word for it.
Choice of other was an order of half rack of wet baby back ribs. With the ribs came two choices of side orders -- in this case, baked beans and corn on the cob.
The small bowl of baked beans was cold, so sent back to be microwaved. The 8 inch corn on cob had the appearance of soaking for hours in cold water.
A hot bowl of beans came back and, after being flooded with catsup, some flavor was rejuvenated into it.
The ribs were tender and good. Not bad, not mouthwatering - just "good"
We had wanted to experience an out of the way non touristy, non chain restaurant, so our expectations were sort of realized. Suggestion to the rest of you looking into Dixies Grill as an option for your dinner - do not dress up, do not assume that to get there will be easy and by all means do not be late for the Happy Hour.

Well went here for dinner after a great afternoon of golf. And a little southern home style cooking is just what was needed. I went for the brisket with coleslaw and fresh greens with cornbread everything was delicious. My only thought was the brisket needed to be cooked a little longer but what the heck the smoky goodness made up for that. The coleslaw was very tasty and the greens were just like Moms. I think next time I'm giving in and having the fried Chicken and waffles. Big Thank you for the great food to the owner Ken...

Last time I ate here was years ago. i was shocked to see how grungy the restaurant looked...and smelled.
Unfortunately the carpet was very dirty...straws, papers, napkins, food, a lot of random debris. I almost left because it was so unappetizing, but since I was meeting people here I stayed.
The service was excellent, very quick and attentive.
I ordered what was once a favorite from here, fettuccine Alfredo. My order did not look very appetizing, sauce was much too thin, pooled around the pasta on the plate. The fettuccine was served in one big stuck together clump and tasted gummy.
I will not eat here again, factors being the cleanliness of the restaurant and quality of the food. Once again the service was excellent; waitress attentive and food arrived very quickly.

They had just finished remodeling this restaurant when we ate there. They feature a "big", a "bigger" and a"biggest" burger which is made fresh with your choice of toppings. The employees were extremely patient and friendly as we made our selections. The burgers were very tasty as were the fries. It is made-to-order fast food in a nice clean restaurant. Also it was inexpensive.

New format of ordering at the desk then sitting at the table for your meal to be served to you is very efficient. The spicy pork is so-o-o ono! Juice. Just spicy enough to smack your lips. Love the turnip namul served at the table. Remember to order and be seated by 745 pm or it's take out only.

Service: Excellent, very attentive, friendly and helpful.
Breakfast: The scrambled eggs were delicious! Buttery/creamy. The egg portion of the omelet was a little overcooked/thin. The Kalua pork inside the omelet was moist/flavorful and delicious! The paniolo potato's were delicious(onions and peppers on top), I highly recommend them over the hash-browns (brown or white rice is also an option).
Coffee: Definitely above average diner coffee.
Big City diner uses Island fresh eggs! Always a plus to use local!
