We've always enjoyed the food & great service for both take out & dining in, including larger groups.

Korner Kone is an ice cream shop & so much more! We try to find excuses to be in Dallas Center for lunch. Each day he (Carter, owner) has different lunch specials, alongside the regular menu. Anywhere from home cooking-type food to his specialty salads. If he doesn't serve the food himself, he at least stops to chat. Always a good experience.
They are located just off the bike trail that runs through town, in a triangle-shaped building front, with a brightly decorated interior. They just added an outdoor water spigot for cyclists use, pointed out by their signature mouse logo.
Summers they have family-friendly free outdoor movie nights as well, around 3 per summer. They have a DJ for the pre-show, then the movie starts at dusk. Bring your bag-chair & sit in the closed-off street, & enjoy their concessions, if you choose.

I joined a group of 15 cyclists on Saturday and rode to Patrick's for breakfast. I ordered the biscuits and gravy (the large order) and received a LOT of food for just $6.50. It was great, first bite to last. I wanted to order pie, but was stuffed. The service was super-friendly. We all left saying the same thing - we'll definitely come back again.
Patrick's was fantastic!!

I have stopped here a few times over the past few years. The ice creams is always great. Even better than the chain ice cream shops and it costs less and you get more!!! The little shoppe is located on the "Triangle" in Old Downtown Waukee. If you are in the area, well worth the stop.
The service is second to none. Keep up the great work!!!

This bar & grill is a bit of a dive (lots of personality), but the tenderloin sandwich is fabulous. My wife is from Iowa, and the state is renowned for pork tenderloin (aka breaded pork cutlet) sandwiches. We tried several across the state, and the one at Ambro's Roadhouse was my favorite. It was HUGE! And I liked the tomato, onion, lettuce, and pickle served with it. (Often, at other restaurants, this sandwich comes 'naked' in a bun.) I also liked the 'crinkle cut fries'. There's a wide assortment of beers for beer lovers, so there's no reason to go away thirsty. (Looks like they have wine & hooch, too.)

Van Meter isn't a very big town and GroVers never seams busy in spite of the very good food. The burger, tenderloin, & fries were very good. The Mexican items looked interesting and we will try them next time. Relaxed atmosphere.

We brought a large group of family for dinner (18 people). The restaurant was not busy at all (likely due to be Tues night and 100 degrees out). The staff explained all the different steaks, chicken, pork and vegetarian dishes (as well as sides). Everyone picked which cut they wanted and then headed to the grill room. It was fun to grill your own food but also very hot. The meat was good. Potatoes were a little on the small side. Salad bar was average. Special note - the drinks were very good. It's kind of pricey considering you're doing most of the work but it's worth a visit if in Des Moines.

At the advice of our friends, we visited the Longest Yard for lunch. Very friendly staff/barkeep and terrific food. My wife had the Rarebit open-faced hamburger and I had bacon-cheeseburger. Both were cooked to perfect, moist, tasty and down are amazing. We have been searching for a good burger place and this less than 2 miles from the house. Did I mention the onion rings? Wowser, they are fantastic.
The inside of the restaurant is certainly outdated but the food is wonderful and the staff very friendly. If you get a chance swing by for a great burger.

Breakfast is served Saturdays only from 11:00am to 1:00pm which we also have a Bloody Mary during those hours as well.
Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. Had a cheeseburger and onion rings. Was good. I've been told that the pork tenderloin is delicious, and the bloody mary bar is outstanding. I'd like to try their breakfast, and the tenderloin, so I will def. be going back. Stop in if you're traveling on the interstate!
