This is a lovely little traditional Japanese restaurant. If you enjoy fish, and are open to trying local, do stop by. It is a very limited menu though, and the focus is fish.

The staff are pleasant enough. The English menu rather non-descriptive. The simpler meals were OK but the sirloin was a disappointment. I asked for the meat to be cooked medium-well, but this was beyond the comprehension of the staff. The meat was served slightly seared and still mooing. I sent it back to the kitchen for additional grilling, but it came back as raw s before. Desserts were rather bland.

Finally found our okonomiyaki go-to place in Tokyo. Not easy to find in a quiet, mostly residential neighborhood. We walked into the wrong place at first but they said we needed Reservations. Glad they turned us away because we walked down the road and saw a hand written sign here saying “Sometaro”. Wear your nice socks since this is a traditional no-shoes place. An English menu is available & includes cooking instructions. You do the cooking here at your table, but they’ll help
if you need it. The okonomiyaki is made w/ batter, no noodles unlike Hiroshima style Okonomiyaki which is our favorite. But we really enjoyed this. The yakisoba was good, but we’ll come back for the okonomiyaki!

We were spending the afternoon at the Tokyo National Museum and had our concierge call to make Reservations. We were thrilled to be in the gorgeous restaurant housed in a building from 1875 and the tatami room overlooking the garden. Sitting on the floor was fine, and cushions with back rests are also available. Three levels of kaiseki dinners were offered as well as regular entrees on the English menu. We ordered the mid-level kaiseki dinner that consisted of eight courses. The sublime flavors and attention to details were exquisite! Dinner here was one of the highlights of our trip. And it was not that hard to find at the south end of Ueno park. It is next to Gojoten Shrine (with its lovely tori gates) and Google maps could find it by just inputting the name. Please note that there is no English signage at the front of the restaurant.

This noodle shop opens at PM6:00 & closes at AM4:00.
Terribly difficult to access... needs 700 metres on foot from near Rokumachi station.
If you don't know how to order, then, tell that, "Normal noodle, please" or "Hutsu-u Ramen, please", which is JPY730.
Plus, Aka-oni topping(a small dish of peppered meat, JPY150) could change its taste, I guess.
Well, then, the must thing for you is "kaedama", which is refilling a portion of noodle with JPY120.
I've ordered refilling 5 times in once www.

Delicious fresh, giant sized pastries and sweet breads ! Long lines, but worth the wait. Must try when you are around the Senjoji temple area.

I have lived in Tokyo for 12 years and am a very regular eater of Ramen and Tsukemen, and seriously, hand on my hear, I have never had a better Tsukemen in my life than at Tsukemen Michi Kameari Branch.
The soup broth is packed with so much deep flavour and the noodles themselves are incredibly tasty.
This place is pretty much always packed so expect to queue. Oh, and make sure you visit when they are actually serving Tsukemen. One of the days (i think it's mondays) they only serve Ramen, which is nice, but no where near as amazing as their Tsukemen. You can usually tell by the size of the queue - if it's long, then they are serving Tsukemen.

A good ramen shop with basic ramen on offer with a few options to customize (toppings, size , etc) and good gyoza which were based on chicken but very tasty. Simple drinks menu (beer, sake, tea, softdrinks). Ramen was flavorful, broth was good, and toppings were plentiful. A satisfying , inexpensive meal. We arrived around 6 or so and were able to sit immediately but it is not a big place.

It was late in the evening and we were getting out of JR Kitasenju station looking for a place for some hot and wholesome food. And we spied this joint and fell in love with it.For they have wonderful but limited choice of both beg and non veg soup with a choice of rice or bread. The only complain is that for the price you pay you would expect a larger helping.Very good service by lovely girls.Highly recommended but be careful they run out of options very fast.Limited space though.

This restaurant is quite Japanese Good Old style. There are all kinds of "Teishoku"(set meal). And large volume meals are good for young traveller.
I am sure that "Kodoku no Gourmet" TV show will be covered in the next season!
Flied Japanese horse mackerel (Aji-Furai)Teishoku is a meal of extra quality.
