I went to its guesthouse for 5 days. Our room is full of 3 bank beds so that max cap is 9 people, but we can share only my family and dog. So, we can stay comfortable and enjoy. Everything is so old but enough to use and keep clean. Owner is elder lady very kind and friendly. We taked meals many places by easy access and saved accommodation fee. In a addition big bathtub is hot and fun. I recommend here strongly.

We 3 families have spent the whole week there and find it an extremely pleasant experience. I would definitely rate it 5 stars and will recommend it to others. There is one major reason why I rated this - the hotel owner Yugo Nose San is such a nice, considerate and professional person. I’m a very frequent traveller and of course I agree there are some other hotels with better hardware quality. But the service we received from Yugo San is absolutely first class. Some examples: - his English proficiency is very high as he’s spent 16 years in Europe. - he drove us to the ski park and even led us to the track to make sure our kids are comfortable with it - he proactively drove us to the Snow Monkey Park when he knew we might need to wait for an hour for the bus. - he served us whiskey and snacks every night - he planned for us how to go to airport in a better way, again proactively There are some other examples showing that he is always willing to step beyond his duty and is so flexible that he always puts the customers first. I can see some positive and negative comments about the hotel and I do agree with most of these comments. However, with Yugo San, everything becomes different. Our kids also love it so much, mainly because of him. Very well done, thanks for your service and we will come back for sure.

July 2018 NEW Open
We have stayed one night to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. Free shuttle is available outside south exit of Karuizawa Station. It takes a 15 mins ride to the hotel. The deluxe room is spacious and stylish. The toilet is super large with double sink, separate shower, toilet and bath. The onsen is closed while we are staying because of the typhoon in October. We go to the hot pool within the same building. It is terrific with both indoor and outdoor pool as well as spa. We do enjoy a delicious and romantic dinner in the French restaurant. Buffet breakfast has adequate choices and the food is good. The staff are polite and caring especially the young lady that drives us back from the cafe to the hotel during sudden heavy rain. We would like to thank for the special surprise during our anniversary stay. This is a hotel highly recommended for a relaxing stay.

Finding an ideal budget friendly resort in Yamanouchi-machi does not have to be difficult. Welcome to Hotel North Shiga, a nice option for travelers like you. Free wifi is offered to guests, and rooms at Hotel North Shiga offer a refrigerator and air conditioning. During your stay, take advantage of some of the amenities offered, including a gift shop and shops. Guests of Hotel North Shiga are also welcome to enjoy an on-site restaurant. For travelers arriving by car, parking is available. While you’re here, be sure to check out some of the nearby restaurants, including Iwamoto Soba-ya (0.9 mi), Kita Shiga Kaden Soba-bu (0.9 mi), and Mexican Restaurant Hope Bell (0.6 mi), all of which are within walking distance from Hotel North Shiga. Best of all, Hotel North Shiga makes it easy to experience some great Yamanouchi-machi attractions like Jigokudani Funsen, which is a popular hot spring. Hotel North Shiga looks forward to welcoming you on your visit to Yamanouchi-machi.
Stayed one night in Hotel North Shiga for ski. Few minutes walk from Ski Lift. Check in is from 3pm, so before if you would like to drop your luggage you need to use the lockers, which cost 400-500 yen every time. Every rental costs money, ski wear/boards/gloves/lockers/yukatas..you name it. So you will spend 2000-3000 yen extra on top of your hotel room. Be prepared the hotel is dated and they do not make the beds for you. Most of the customers are college students who want a cheap stay. There is a common Japanese bath located on 6th floor. Good thing about this hotel is that they serve good buffets at dinner (especially the crab legs). And if you do not mind hotel quality, staying here for ski and just sleep is not that bad. They also offer shuttle bus to pick you up from iiyama station and drop off.

Stayed in November in very cold weather, 3 people in one of the cottages. We drove up to the main entrance and checked in successfully, then back down to our cottage where we were able to park right outside. The cottage was very nice, 2 levels with the bedroom (3 beds) and large bathroom downstairs, and living/lounging area and large balcony upstairs. Good TV/movie options and teas and coffees available. Unfortunately, due to it being winter it was VERY COLD in the cottage. We were unable to regulate the temperature, and even called for someone to help us turn on the floor heating (didn't really feel the effects though). There were individual gas heaters in various rooms, but we couldn't leave these on the whole time. The bedroom being right off the entrance was freezing, as was the bathroom. For such a comfortable looking place, this was a big shame! The living area was really nice but unfortunately the very low seating didn't suit me as there was nowhere to sit more 'upright'. Maybe personal taste though. We didn't use the balcony but in warmer weather, can imagine it would have been fantastic! One final downside was that to get to the onsen, we had to walk all the way up to the main building, outside and in the dark with a torch (provided in the cottage), and through the lobby. We had to rug up just to get to the bath. Onsen itself was very nice, especially rotenburo (outside) with the trees nearby lit up. But then..... having relaxed, we had to put our coats on and trek back in the cold to our cottage! We had the buffet-style dinner and breakfast and the scheduling was not managed very well. Having been asked what time we preferred for dinner, we said 7.30pm and duly arrived just beforehand ready to be seated. We found a group of people all waiting, and we were supposed to put our names on the list and wait to be called. After at least 20 mins waiting, we were finally seated and got the last bits of the buffet - so the spread was not that impressive. I did see that they replenished many of the dishes but by that time we were nearly full. Same thing happened at breakfast except there was no assigned time..... everyone turned up and had to wait around until we could be seated (around 20 mins wait). The food wasn't bad (mix of Japanese and Western) but we didn't feel it was well organised or worth the money! Overall, this is a nice place but could do with some improvements. If you visit in winter, be prepared to wrap up or choose a room in the main building rather than a cottage!

Taken as a whole, the Shiga Kogen region is quite possibly the largest ski and snowboard resort area in the world. The area is located to the northeast of Nagano City, about 40 minutes out. The Shiga Kogen Prince Hotel is located at the base of the excellent Yakebitaiyama resort and has a variety of different plans and packages for skiers of all levels. The most popular is the "All-in-1 Pack," which includes breakfast and a one-day lift ticket. The resort hotel has a total of 690 comfortable rooms in three separate wings (100 in the East Wing, 240 in the South Wing and 350 in the West Wing). All provide easy access to the lifts and slopes.
Shiga Kogen Prince Hotel - South Wing. (1-2 star western hotel priced at 5 star Ryokan prices, in a great 6 star ski location albeit an extremely non-integrated and isolated resort with limited facilities). Booked 2x Non-smoking rooms but which absolutely wreaked from chain smokers. Front desk middle-manager condescending, arrogant, sneaky, sly, unapologetic (and ironically happily and openly racist and hostile to foreigners, in a hotel occupied at peak by 80% foreigner clientele ....). No Onsen or sento (baths) let alone an indoor public pool or spa. No common lounge. No games room. No gym. No pub/bar. Front desk could be replaced by an iPad for all the customer service relationship (CRM) and troubleshooting skills they provided. Lack of Japanese customers at the hotel has obviously led to an arrogance at front desk (that is not even the equivalent in CRM standard to a budget fast food chain or family restaurant where client satisfaction, sales and repeat sales are a key business driver ....). Cleaning of rooms pre-checkin non-existent. Mould in bathroom and on floor, walls and ceiling, as well as a WC cistern leaking onto the bathroom floor. Booked 2x Non-smoking rooms, but got given (despite our protests) so called ‘Shochu rooms’ instead where they said they spray a bit of air freshener briefly in rooms before checkin to “make smell go away and ‘deodorise’ room...”. Problem was rooms had obviously been occupied by chain smokers before and smell permeated carpet, curtains, beds linen, towels and pillows, even the toilet bowl (as that’s where cigarettes where being flushed) to such an extent it made the kids physically sick on entry into the toons. All this after - delayed entry by 4 hrs (even though they said rooms had been fully cleaned and were ready ... which they had not been and were not), and - hotel’s own pamphlets in room itself said that if you smoke in room you will be charged 50,000 ex over to clean room (which not even thought of being done by hotel cleaners and managers) - Likely cleaner had also been smoking cigarettes in bathroom as well, as smell so strong and recent and heavy throughout everything in the entire room there is no way it had been thoroughly “cleaned and deodorised” 4-6 hrs prior. Hotel staff and managers refused to do anything. Only solution provide by front desk middle manager (male, 20s-30s), with a smirk on his face, was to offer us 1 of the worst rooms to be swapped “.... at no extra charge”....., and half size, and a view of the car park not the slopes..... We (ourselves) had to: - clean the bathroom and basins thoroughly ourselves with soap and water multiple times to get rid of smell. - open all windows and doors ourselves, and leave rooms fully open (with our luggage secured elsewhere) to get smell out over course of the afternoon and well into the evening. Took close to 8 hrs from actually getting the keys for smell to disaster to something close to normal but still present. Never sighted one cleaner come close to our rooms before, during our stay, or on leaving. Fact that boxes of empty ramen lined corridors for days from other occupants on other floors, on car park side of building, sets the scene as the the hotels cleaning standards. Had to request toilet paper from front desk. West wing of same hotel widely known to be the worst food in the world amongst international skiing community... South wing better, food wise, although paying more than you would for 5 star ryokan prices, for breakfast and dinner, but just getting a nice western buffet / feeding frenzy. Dining room staff nice and friendly. Dining room view great at evening. Ski lift crew and ski hire staff nice, personable and polite. Young lady at checkin was polite, accommodating and understanding but could not do anything other than give us keys, and answer general questions. Skiing great, but can do better and cheaper elsewhere. Front desk, hotel facilities and cleaning a massive disappointment!!! Suggest you just get a day pass and take the shuttle bus and stay somewhere you can better relax in clean comfort, and spend the saved money on more skiing days.

This is a review for the onsen only. I came here twice for day use onsen and loved it. The minerals in the water make your skin silky smooth and the ambiance is nice. Entrance fee is quite cheap (around 500 yen) and there is a big waiting area, restaurant and gift shop in the front. In the back there is also a resting room for after onsen. The onsen has many different baths. Inside there are 5 different baths; including a jacuzzi jet, radon, aroma bath and natural onsen water; outside there are 2 rotenburos plus a detached sauna with cool water bath nearby. There is a beautiful wood roof over the walkway outside and one of the rotenburos is made of hinoki wood, which is very aromatic. There is also a yard for a small walk and cooling down with foot massagers outside. Also the area has great dark skies for stargazing at night. I believe the onsen is open until 8 pm for day use guests.

If you want a hotel that has super easy access to snow, this is the one. However, the room is quite tiny for a family of four. There is equipment for hire within the hotel. The breakfast and dinner is inclusive but the food is the same and quite avwrage.
