Comfortable, harbourside and close to restaurants and shopping

Reviewed By alexanderjay2017

Comfortable, pretty-well-appointed bedrooms. Quality soaps which left skin feeling smooth and refreshed. Huge TV with pre-dedicated channels for Netflix and YouTube. Handy variety of charging/hooking-up adapters for various USB/etc dependent gadgets. Room had a nice balcony + chairs looking out over a section of the harbour toward the Harborland Mosaic restaurant and boutique complex. Ample selection of international / Japanese items on breakfast buffet menu in a large set of rooms generally looking out over the harbour. Staff pleasant, courteous and efficient. Not quite as prestigious or ritzy, perhaps, as the nearby Hotel Okura (have been lucky enough to stay at both), but a more lively and cosmopolitan feel. The spacious central atrium also gives it a lighter and airier atmosphere. You can book and take a 2-hour + evening dinner cruise around Kobe 'bay' at the terminal one floor down from the hotel lobby, although you can book a similar type of cruise from the terminal at the Mosaic complex a short walk away. Kobe Port Tower is a very short walk from the hotel entrance. Finally, at any time of year, but especially from late spring through autumn (I would imagine; I visited in early December), the Nunobiki Herb Gardens and Ropeway are really worth a visit -more so, perhaps, than anything else in Kobe. Take the hotel's free shuttle bus up to the shinkansen (bullet-train) station and follow the signs for the cable car (about a five-minute walk). Take the cable car all the way to the top (past the intermediate stop) and stroll down a wonderful winding path past all manner of fragrant herbs and flowers, with mountain views over Kobe, the sea, and beyond... There are plenty of play areas for children (who basically have plenty of fun just running down the slopes), and quite a few hammocks laid out where you can sunbathe and snooze -a treat in the early winter sunshine, before twisting yourself inside out as you try to get out of the hammock and you suddenly find yourself on the ground.

Ok hotel outside the city

Reviewed By Paal_Kri

The hotel is a bit outside the city of Kobe but it has nice surroundings with parks etc. Friendly staff but noone speaks proper English so all communication was pretty difficult. Had a nice meal at the restaurant, and the price on one of them was reasonable. They also have a restaurant with crazy prices. Did not try that one. The room is very nice and the bed gave very good sleeping quality. Was a bit dissappointed that they only offered late checkout til 01:30 PM. As Titanium member I usually get a check out at 4 PM but I guess it was a questions about aviability, even if I hardly noticed other guests at the hotel. The price is reasinable but I think I will choose another hotel next time.

Wedding factory - not for European guests!

Reviewed By TrishYorkUK

We have just spent one night here and that was quite sufficient! The shuttlebus failed to meet us at the station ( the taxi fare was re funded). We then discovered that the rooms were not ensuite and that we were expected to use the public bathing rooms. We complained bitterly to the manager who then agreed to allow us to use the bathroom in the adjoining suite. We asked about dinner but were told that this was not possible as it had to be pre booked! The hotel is in an isolated location some 20 minutes taxi ride from the town! Japanese cuisine was the only option available for breakfast - not even fruit could be found for us! The hotel is in a beautiful location but its primary purpose is to cater for weddings as the floor plans demonstrated - there is even a chapel complete with organ! The hotel lobby contains wedding costumes etc, Very little English is spoken so communication was difficult. Our tour operators chose the hotel for us - a grave error on their part! The hotel would be fine for clearly what was its fundamental purpose but is not suitable for European guests.

Beautiful and interesting building with great view of the Japanese Inland Sea. This is a "must" for fans of Ando and all travellers interested in architecture. The rooms (Japanese and Western) are very spacious. The food is just OK but the staff is very frindly and helpful.

Visit to Awaji Island with my friend.

Reviewed By Katydid G

My friend used to live on Awaji Island and this came up on a hotel search. We lucked out and got a super good deal for one night. The room (for 5) was more than roomy for one person. Hotel charges per person, so we each took our own room. The extras were all provided: mini-fridge that actually froze my items when you turn it all the way up, massage tools, hot water in a thermos and a tea set for when you arrive. The thermos kept it warm enough for morning tea as well. Pajamas and robes provided as well as futons in an older traditional japanese hotel. The tatami mats were in great shape as well as a modern flat screen tv. The toilet was the modern japanese throne (warm seat plus flushing music). Slippers for the entry and toilet area provided. The japanese bath was superb with an inside and outside tub. Showers were stocked with shampoo, conditioner, body wash and assorted lotions for when you finish. The sunset was awesome upon arrival and this hotel abuts a lovely pine forest maintained for tsunami control. You can find sea glass on the beach which was the cleaner beach of two we visited. Free Wifi only in the lobby. Lovely place to stay.

Dated but good value

Reviewed By Steven L

Walking into this resort is like stepping into a B grade Japanese movie from the 80's, just like the town of Kiikatsuura itself. Both are worn and dated. But the rooms are very large for Japan, there are outside and inside onsen, and a buffet dinner and breakfast are included in the price - including all you can eat sushi. It's a good place to rest and recoup after the Kamano Kodo

The ultimate zen experience

Aman Kyoto. The forgettable zen experience in Kyoto Japan. I stayed in room 08. My morning felt like a gigantic art picture in front of me. The onsen spring was super relaxing. Top-notch amenities with Marvis toothpaste set and high quality details everywhere. The outdoor area with fireplace, I can sit there all day to feel the amazing nature in total green. Picture and video can’t describe enough how beautiful it was. You must hear about all the history of how this place was created from general manager Mr. Akira Shiota, it will touch your heart and appreciate even more of this gem in Kyoto.

Excellent service at a Onsen resort with great view

Reviewed By anthonyfung1969

The view from the resort is amazing. The staff was excellent. They went out of their way to cater for our last minute meal request, and the chef still managed to conjure up some of the best food I have ever tasted. Another heart-warming gesture was a personalised thank you note posted on the notice board inside the elevator for every group of guests checking in. The resort also has transfer to JR station for departing guest.

Perfect view!

Reviewed By Summerfrolics

Stayed a night there and did a triple share. Do note that for the third person, he or she will be sleeping on a tatami. The room was spacious, pretty and comfortable! View from the room was also perfect - facing the ocean. This was the same view from the onsen as well. Onsen facilities were clean and well equipped. I had one of the most comfortable stays there! The only down side was that the pillows were too soft/flat for me, but in view of everything else, it wasn't an issue. The hotel is on higher ground hence it is in a quieter area. There is a small convenience shop in the hotel though. Breakfast options were mainly Japanese and it was good! Would definitely go back.
