Our bungalows are situated in the unique central Middlebush area of Tanna, the main coffee growing region of the island, & in close proximity to everything. Located on a small plateau close to & overlooking the fantastic eastern coast of Tanna, providing amazing views, including Mt Yasur Volcano, the 'Nima' is a superior island style bungalow, while our standard bungalow is typical of Tanna.
Like most, we went to Tanna with not much more planned than a visit to the volcano but ended up wishing we'd stayed longer. Esso & Rachel were fantastic hosts who took care of everything while we were there. Organisation & communication from Greg beforehand was fantastic too. Esso's cousin picked us up from the airport and took us on a full day tour of the south of the island (don't miss the amazing feast at Chez Leah!) culminating in sunset at the volcano. An exhausting but memorable day! We spent our second morning relaxing & exploring the village around Esso & Rachel's (accompanied by their friendly dogs) before visiting the Black Magic village & spending the afternoon on a casual guided walk back home with Rachel, along the kastom trails through villages & the jungle. Rachel's cooking was delicious & plentiful, with lots of fresh fish & vegetables straight from the garden. We stayed in Jack's Nima, which has one of the most stunning views of anywhere we've ever stayed, looking directly across a jungle valley you can see the volcano at the other end of the island, as well as some pretty amazing sunrises over the ocean. I'm hesitant to even call the accommodation "basic" like other reviews - it's obviously not a 5 star resort, but it's a well-built bungalow with screened windows, plenty of room, a cute balcony looking across the valley and just far enough from the dining room to give you privacy. The shared bathroom is basic but has a hot shower, which is a definite positive in the cooler highlands and was much appreciated after a slightly damp walk through the jungle! We'll definitely come back!

Amel Toro Bungalow is located right at the seafront with 3 comfortable and quiet bungalows looking across Norsup Small Island. Each Bungalow has its own private toilet and shower. Tours are available; Big & Small Nambas is a must to see when visiting Malekula. Talk to your hosts and they will organize it for you.
We have been to vanuatu 16 times but this time decided to finally do some outer islands. These bungalows were nice...but very basic.....no refridgeration. .the owners were lovely and looked after us well....the food was good but there is no choice of meals you get what is cooked....no kettle to make yourself a coffee which is frustrating....but otherwise very clean

For a budget price and for those who prefer the luxury of an en-suite you couldn’t go past Port Resolution Yacht Club as a place to stay in Tanna..You are situated on the east coast only about a half hour truck ride from the volcano.. Still close enough for a second visit and situated on the hillside overlooking the yachts pulling in at Port Resolution Bay.. Werry can organise your tour to the volcano or any other tours, including sulphur bay, waterfalls or jungle walks and Wendy looked after our every need in the open air Tanna style restaurant. It’s just a quick stroll down to the water for a swim on the black beach or stroll around to the other side at low tide and allow Kennedy to cook you fresh bananas in the hot springs set amongst the rocks.. Alternatively walk in the other direction through the village towards the white beach and you will come across varied local cafes including Leahs where we stopped for coffee and a cafe right on the beach where my son and I enjoyed a sumptuous yet inexpensive lunch. For a beach walk, a swim in the crystal clear water or a snorkel along the coast you can’t beat this spot.. Take a moment and watch the locals catching the waves breaking on the reef...And my only advice here is to allow enough time to enjoy it all!

Family run Melanesian style bungalows with basic/rustic style accommodation made from all traditional local products. Beautiful garden setting with view to Iwaru black sand beach. Suited to the adventure traveler, or those that want to be a million miles away from it all. Come and be welcomed as part of our family as you make a visit to the world's most accessible active volcano, Mt Yasur.
A lovely quiet spot to spend some time while being close to the main town centre on Tanna and the Airport. There are great views of the black sand beach in front of the bungalows which is a nice place to go for a walk or take a dip to cool off. The accommodation was clean with mosquito nets provided, flushing toilets and showers. Roslyn was a lovely host cooking a range of food and willing to share information about local life and cuisine. A great place to relax and learn about the local culture.

Located in the beautiful North-East coast of Santo, based in Hog Harbour, Sanma Province. Kalmer and Louisa Vocor are locals who own and run the place since 1985. Surrounded by acres of rain forest, Lonnoc Eco Beach Bungalows are a retreat into paradise. Whether you wish to relax on our perfect white soft powedery sand beaches, snorkel reefs or tour local sites, Lonnoc will be a hard place to leave. We have been awarded the following - 'Top 3 Accommodation in Hog Harbour' in 2020, 'Best Island Style Accommodation' in 2018 and 'Vanuatu's Best Island Bungalow' in 2007, Canoeing, snorkeling, turtle spotting, tours to blue holes, villages, family farms and cultural activities, our Restaurant and Bar overlooking the pristine Lonnoc beach. We offer 6 Ocean View Bungalows; 1 Family Bungalow, 1 Dormitory with 4 bedrooms, 3 Small Huts with 2 single beds per hut, plus 1 Seafront Bungalow including a new Honeymoon Suite. We also offer Conference Hall for group events and meetings. Our Restaurant/Cafe opens 7am and closes 930pm. We take pride in offering one of the best menus in entire Santo. An amazing selection of dishes from European, Asian, American, South Pacific and Local Vanuatu cuisine. We also cater for vegan, vegetarian, gluten and diary free requirements. All ingredients are organic and locally grown. Kalmer also founded The School of Tourism and Hospitality where we train young students in this area and help them get jobs and settle down. We strongly believe in preserving the eco systems, marine and wildlife and leaving mother earth a better place than we found it. We are making sure that our beaches and gardens are clean and the wildlife is not harmed.
My wife and I were showing some friends up the East coast and decided to stay a night at Lonnoc. We rented 2 bungalows - walk in, 2 couples and were charged 6,000 vatu (around $75aud per room for one night). The accomodation was not clean - gecko droppings and bits of roof thatch everywhere, white ant mud trails up the wall. We had to go and try to find someone to fill up the water tank TWICE so that we could flush the toilet and shower. Chicken dinner consisted of one piece of chicken the size of a 50 cent piece and a mountain of mashed Koumala (the vegetables however were nice). The bungalows are not insect proof and the mosquito nets were inadequate - mosquito coils were provided but matches were not. We have stayed here several times previously over the past 8 years (my wife and I live in Santo) and this place has become progressively worse over time. There are other little resorts in the Lonnoc area so please don't take this review of Lonnoc Beach Bungalows as representative of the others.

One of the true wonders of the world is Mount Yasur and the best place to stay to visit the volcano is at the base of the volcano at Jungle Oasis...Accommodation is cheap, simple & clean and we couldn’t fault the attention from our hosts, Kelson & Joyce. The meals were delicious and if we’d had more time we would’ve stayed longer.. Can’t wait for the bathroom to be completed in the new bungalow! The entire experience was film for the mind and loved listening to the rumblings of the volcano through the night.. Allow extra time to explore other natural wonders including Sulphur Bay, Giant Banyan Tree, Yakal Village and nearby waterfalls...We will return..

Secludedly tucked away in the thick of the forest and with no traces of civilization in sight, here you'll have Mt Yasur's light and sound show all to yourself. Every 10 minutes! Jeremiah, the owner, built the bungalows 'by the sweat of his brow'; while no-frills, they are attractive and cozy, of adequate dimensions, and i couldn't have asked for a comfier bed! There's virtually no mosquitoes in the bungalows at this time (winter), but there's another good reason to sleep under the mosquito net: rats. These rodents are a rather common nuisance around Tanna. An effective way to keep them at bay is to keep a (dim) light on in your bungalow for the better part of the night, such as a kerosene lamp (which Jeremiah can provide you with). That way it's goodbye to the little buggers; it did the trick every time! There's no hot showers here; cold water in a tin basin and a coconut shell for shower- head do the job just fine. Toilets come in the form of two latrines. Everything is spick-and -span, and toilet paper, bedlinen and bathtowels are all supplied. I'm told that water's safe to drink, but your hosts will happily boil it for you (one minute of rolling boil is all you need), so do bring a water-bottle along. Bring a torch and plenty of batteries as well. You won't need them in the full moon, but moonless nights are pitch-black! Jeremiah's wife cooks like heaven, and while the menu's supposed to be set, they daily cooked vegetarian for me. Try her sweet potatoes in coconut milk. Divine! Breakfast is free, and so is the fourth night of your stay. There're puppies and goats you can frolic with. The entire compound overlooks the volcano. The place couldn't be quieter as far as man-made noise, but there's a perpetual background stereo sound: the gentle roaring of the sea to the one side and the periodic rumbling of Mt Yasur to the other. By night, an almost permanent glow lights up the sky around the volcano's summit, and every once in a while you may be treated to a striking firework display. There's one downer i've got to mention, though. While airport pick-up (2,000 vt) was efficiently organized, some of the other excursions i had in mind were not. I find Jeremiah is not the best of organizers. Besides, he doesn't own a vehicle and so he must rely on others to take visitors around. If there's, say, a fuel shortage, or these others are not true to their word, your plans are bound to flop. Jeremiah needs support from us travellers if he's to develop his infrastructure. He doesn't even have an email address at present (to contact him you must go through the local tourist board, or try 565.12.16, his cellphone). I'd recommend Paradise View as a magnificent place to stay and perhaps to arrange walks and simple excursions. For more serious stuff (like the Cultural Experience at Jungle Oasis, which is sure to leave you gobsmacked) or if you're hoping to do quite a bit in a limited amount of time, go with Friendly Bungalows (by the beach, a mere 5 minute walk down from Paradise View) as they're a very experienced team and stock up on fuel.

I stopped in here last month, just for a look. They are in the process of building a couple of new, bigger bungalows, as they old ones are gone now. They are also building a pool. Well, that will be interesting to see. They are still serving lunch every day in their improved dining area, and round island tours still stop in for a buffet lunch and to be entertained by a string band. I cannot comment on the food because I didn't stay for lunch, but I would definitely stay there again once their new bungalows are up an running. It's about half way around Efate and it's right on the beachfront. You will need to contact them to find out if the bungalows will be open when you plan to travel, but as of late January they were not complete. However, they seemed almost finished.
