Brimming with both history and natural wonder, Northern Portugal is home to Porto, the city that gave the country its name, as well as the important ancient town of Braga. Also here is Peneda-Gerês, Portugal’s only national park, a gorgeous wilderness area of mountains, gorges, water features and wildlife. Many picturesque villages and manor houses dot the countryside. Two areas are UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Alto Douro Wine Region, and the Paleolithic rock art in the Côa Valley.

We can't say enough about our stay with Quinta da Timpeira. The view is spectacular. The grounds are a photographer's dream. The backyard terrace area is where we sat and enjoyed the afternoon sun and spectacular view, while sipping delicious wine. Our room was immaculate and charming with antiques and nice extra touches added. It was such a joy to be there and the staff could not have been friendlier. Rita was a wonderful spirit as where all the staff members. Our dinner was mouthwatering delicious and the breakfast as well. If you want a peaceful romantic escape at a small friendly Quinta, look no further. We had all this and very reasonably priced as well. We hope to return someday. Thank you to Rita and all the staff for making our visit so special

This hotel has a restaurant in it and it is fantastic! You can eat outside right next to the old water mill with the sound and view of the water passing under the old stone moss covered bridge. The food, OMG the food! We had Petiscos Baccalhau (3.50€) as a starter which were the best we have had in the last 2 weeks in Portugal (and we have had a lot!). For the main we had grilled octopus and veal in mushroom sauce - both were a slightly different take on the usual traditional food and were absolutely delicious! The starter, 2 mains and dessert (together with the very nice white vinho verde, salad, soft drinks and coffee) it came to a total of 40€ for the two of us. On top of that, the service was excellent! The waiter, the owners’ son, was very nice, attentive and speaks fantastic English. He and kitchen were also very attentive to our dietary needs. All in all, location, service, food, price - all 5*!

Greatly enjoyed our stay at the Quinta. Spacious rooms with a view on the Douro river, a pool to relax; warm welcome by the owner, Damiao, provides advice about the region (in Portuguese or French) and serves a nice breakfast.

Quinta da Agra is a building with foundation before Sec. XVII. A gate in the stone wall gives access to the two houses which are restored with good taste and comfort. The owner dedicated 10 years returning the architecture to its original state. On this Farm all of the restoration details were taken care, from the involving area of the house, to the century old olive trees, the picadors and the stables, to the small lakes for the fishing enthusiasts.
Pedro made us feel so at home, we didn’t want to leave! Beautiful old farmhouse lovingly restored. Very pretty with a great garden, roses up the wall and the occasional roaming turkey! When the priest came on Easter Sunday we were included in the greeting and tasted his own wines too.
