The Grand Avenue Pub & Grille offers a calm, relaxing space for eating and enjoying good conversation. Our menu offers many creative and refreshing varieties. Salad bar, homemade soups and buffets for lunch and dinner Monday-Thursday. Also Friday night bu
My ribs were great-- cooked well with tasty sauce. However, my baked potato had a bad spot that was at least a quarter of it's entire volume. My wife faired worse-- she wanted the pan fried walleye, and after a lengthy pause, the waitress came back and said they were out, so she got the perch at a 10% discount and asked for it to be pan fried as well. It came back with some sort of uncooked flour coating-- my wife asked several times and the waitress insisted it was just salt and pepper. My wife even brushed some of the flour away, and the uncooked consistency made it totally unappealing, and she didn't eat it. Her mash was inedible as well- a huge tasteless blob of stuff that same off her plate with a single lift of the fork. Luckily the cheese soup and salad bar gave her something to eat. Breakfast the next morning was another spilt decision-- loved my corn beef hash with poached egg but my wife again got the wrong pancake. Lovely hotel, great stay, but a little concentration would have helped here.Dave,We are very sorry to hear that your experience with some of the food was unsatisfactory. We unfortunately ran out of walleye that particular evening. Please know that we have looked into why this happened and will try to make sure this does not happen again. We hope that you will dine with us again and will give us the opportunity to perfect your dining experience. Thank you again for taking the time to give a review so that we can always strive for perfection.Thank you,Hotel Mead Staff and Management
Nice array of bar food items, daily specials & friendly waitstaff. Also serve small groups for parties, showers & get-to-gethers.
At noon on an early spring Tuesday, Layla's is not overly busy, so accommodating our group was done well. (We did call ahead for a reservation.) The home-made chips were an excellent addition to many of the sandwich choices; other specials were available, and our group was pleased. Soups are available, too. It's interesting to patronize a place that has gone through many changes over the years. We reminisced the days of very fine dining here (at one time this was THE VINTAGE), when you'd get dressed up to go out! Now, you can be as casual as you'd like! Thanks for the kind review, Bonsanchubo. We are so glad to hear about your pleasant experience at our restaurant. Hopefully we will have the pleasure of serving you and your party again!
Freddieâs is full of happy people and has great food; a perfect combination. Itâs a place for common everyday people. Does it have amazing architecture? Well no. Are the interior surroundings overly impressive? Well no. Well what makes it so great? Its ordinary. Yep, you might just think that you were at a party in someone elseâs home. Tonight the place was really hopping with a youthful crowd. Tis the season to make merry during the holidays you know. There was music and people getting together to just unwind and enjoy one another. Flat screens featured sports, there were dart boards, pool tables, and pin ball machines â oh, and there was food; good food. I went with the fish fry. The racket fries were great, there was marbled rye bread, and the fish, oh my! Beautiful slabs of deep fried haddock â tender, flakey, lean. So fresh you would think they just jumped out of the water. Yes, it was a plentiful platter, a wondrous feast. So there you have it. Happy people, great food, a winning combination at Freddieâs.

They have the best blue gills ever and huge portions. The pepper jack grilled chicken sandwich is really good too. My boyfriend loves the racket fries and I'm a wedge fry girl. The special sour cream to dip them in is awesome. It's a very family friendly bar/restaurant. Great prices also.

I stepped into the bar from outside and the friendly face of a wait staff person appeared. She was relaxed and good natured even though the eatery was hopping with action. People were dining everywhere experiencing fabulous food at their tables. I had just gotten out of work myself and was still in my work shirt. The friendly faced gal told me it might take up to twenty minutes for me to be seated. I looked up at the menu on the wall and noticed bluegills as an entrée so I told her I was only one person and would sit anywhere. My attention was focused upon beautiful knotty pine boxcar siding throughout the room, along with the oak horseshoe bar. A voice brought me back to the moment at hand as the gal called my name. âSteve, would this spot work for you? There was a spot on the end of the bar where the bills were being made out but it looked fine to me. I picked up a menu and looked at the many options: appetizers, sandwiches, seafood, soup of the day, hand carved prime rib, southern fried chicken, prime & shrimp, homemade pizza, and daily specials. It all looked so good, but I was preoccupied with the idea of eating blue gills so that is what was ordered â a half pound of blue gills. The food arrived in no time at all. Steaming fries with the skins on; not hard and crunchy but just right, along with a dinner roll. The fillets were exquisite. Perfect, and as large as the palm of my hand. Tender white flesh wrapped in golden brown batter as thin as a dime. So light and flakey, a wonder to behold. I ate a couple of fillets along with the roll and fries. Soon only the filets were left, I savored each one and eventually dipped them into my side order of apple sauce. The semi sweetness added to the blue gill was pure heaven. A couple of older ladies had been watching all this time and finally one spoke up. She said, â I thought you did not like the fish because you stopped eating them. But now I realize you were saving the best for last.â Booneâs Saloon was a great experience, in part because of the friendly faces of the wait staff.

Small place, with very friendly staff. We were from out of town playing golf and stopped by afterwards for dinner before driving back to Lake Arrowhead. Amy our waitress was very friendly, not rushing us and giving us prompt service once we placed our orders. Yea we were looked at when we walked in, as many locals go there and the staff knew them all by name as they served them, Worth the visit and eats were good

While visiting my parents, they took us here for dinner where we also met my sister and her husband. My folks and sister go here frequently. The bar area is roomy and casual but inviting and is separate from the dining area. They have lakeside views too from either the bar or dining area. Bar area has high top tables too. Dining area is spacious. Great broasted chicken, which I had. My husband had the jumbo shrimp dinner and that was great too. All the food was great. The only complaint was that once we ordered we waited quite a long time for our food. It wasnât overly busy so not sure why the wait was so long. I realize the chicken probably takes longer and I understand that. If youâre in a hurry, probably donât want to order the chicken! Otherwise, it was a very pleasant experience. Would definitely recommend this place!!

Who knew in the Middle of Wisconsin I would have the EXTREME PLEASURE of enjoying a MIRACULOUS BURGER......I will, in all future trips, find a way to get to this GEM......Only down side to this entire dining experience was the flies in the restaurant.....But even they could not hinder the JOY of the first bite.....The Unsweet Tea also was AMAZING......and the HOME MADE CHIPS were EPIC.....EllenHolmes67, we are so honored and pleased to receive this outstanding rating and review.
